OVERVIEW

The D-TAR Big Soundspot is an extremely versatile pickup that captures the sound of such diverse instruments as berimbau, hammer dulcimer, harmonica, kalimba, log drum, 6- and 12-string steel-string acoustic and nylon-string classical guitars and others.

SoundSpots are ultra-sensitive piezo crystal transducer pickups suitable for stringed and non-stringed acoustic and ethnic instruments. Unlike other dot-type transducer pickups, each SoundSpot is hand ground to extremely fine tolerances. This process, along with the selection of materials, produces a pickup with a very thin surface that can maintain its strength and flexibility. The result is a pickup that is ultra-sensitive to your acoustic instrument's surface vibrations and, therefore, is extremely natural and warm sounding.

D-TAR - Duncan/Turner Acoustic Research
Seymour Duncan and Rick Turner are two legends who spent years working with musicians, perfecting their tone. Seymour founded his self-named company in 1978 which has become well-known for its wide variety of guitar and bass pickups used by just about every name player from Billie Joe Armstrong to Angus Young. Rick co-founded Alembic, was president of Gibson Labs West Coast R&D Division, co-founded Highlander Musical Audio making piezo acoustic guitar pickups for Lindsay Buckingham, Ry Cooder, David Lindley, and Andy Summers, and runs his own Renaissance Guitars. Now Seymour and Rick are working together to create innovative products for acoustic musicians. Their D-TAR motto: "With respect to acoustic tone."

A pickup that captures the natural sounds of rhythmic and percussive instruments.

Comments about Dtar Big Soundspot Pickup:

I bought this to try out as a pickup for an autoharp. I wasn't sure how it would work, since autoharps have lots of strings. The autoharp had a battery compartment(onboard tuner) on the back, which I took out to allow access to the inside, so I could attach the pickup to the soundboard. I routed the cord back thru a small opening I made in the battery holder and attached the 1/4 inch plug to the back of the autoharp with the supplied tape. I was very pleased with the ability of the pickup to capture the sound of all the instrument's strings and the sound quality is excellent.

Comments about Dtar Big Soundspot Pickup:

Bought this after researching, used on my La Patrie concert nylon, I was amassed at the quality , plugged into my fishman loudbox mini, presto , acoustic/electric. It's truly amazing for the money, don't use two sided scotch tape, adheres too strongly, thought I'd never get it off, scared the day lights out of me .

Comments about Dtar Big Soundspot Pickup:

I have a bunch of acoustic instruments that I want to be able to play through and amp. I started with a classical guitar. I added a D-tar Big Soundspot first trying it externally and eventually wiring it in permanently. I did have to buy an endpin jack separately since the jack provided is made to be mounted externally on your instrument. I was quite satisfied with the sound reproduction of the Soundspot. I combined it with a Tonebone PZ-Pre direct box to have more control over the sound output. The combination was excellent. I'll probably be buying more Soundspots for other instruments in the future.

.... and with Dtar on bass!

Comments about Dtar Big Soundspot Pickup:

In my guise as a luthier I built an over-sized acoustic bass guitar for use in my home studio. Equipped with a Dtar Big Sound Spot and a set of Fender nylon wrapped strings, and with the action set slightly high, in the studio this bass easily could be mistaken for a full sized upright.Avoid the hassle of many of the other systems. Go with the Dtar system. I've mounted several of these units and I will do many more before I am through.
