Read all the reviews. I have other guitars BUT my wife bought me a "cheap" Fender Acoustic from a pawn shop for my birthday. She felt she got a good one because of the name. Not all wood by any means! Not much sustain. No ringing from the strings etc. I love her for it but I knew it needed a little help so I bought this Fishman. When I got it I hooked it up temporarily in less than 5 minutes with the wire and end jack hanging down from the sound hole. I strummed a cord. Amazing! I immediately pulled out the old wooden end plug, looked at the directions to see what size drill bit I needed, drilled the proper hole, unsoldered the wires from the endjack, resoldered the wires I cut to fit, plugged the guitar in to the amp and WOW! This pickup has no "bad noise"! I held my guitar in front of my amp and no feedback.I was very hesitant in buying this or any other soundhole pickup but I am glad I got this one. It makes this Fender sound great.

I recently purchased this item and found their installation items poor. The item did not function. The wire itself was very inferior, extremely light gauge and certainly less than professional quality. I can't attest to the sound since it didn't work. The fact that the item required the purchaser to go out and buy washers instead of equiping them was lousy packaging.

Comments about Fishman Rare Earth Pro-Rep-102 Humbucking Soundhole Pickup:

This is a good sounding magnetic pickup, read...it's not totally natural sounding. It has an electric guitar quality to it. But it is a very usable sound, for me, way better than a piezo under saddle pickup.

Comments about Fishman Rare Earth Pro-Rep-102 Humbucking Soundhole Pickup:

If you are expecting this unit to look like the picture shown
forget it. They are showing a pic of an older model. Fishman has
upgraded this unit but so far they haven't upgraded the picture.
I liked the older squared off version shown online but the upgraded
version is sort of rounded. Doesn't make a difference sound wise but if you prefer the one pictured you are out of luck.
I have sent MF several emails to appraise them of this but they have ignored
me so far. I guess it is a small problem but imagine if you wanted a sun burst model guitar and you got a natural model. Get it?

Comments about Fishman Rare Earth Pro-Rep-102 Humbucking Soundhole Pickup:

I was looking for a pickup to put in my acoustic and this (to my ears) captured it's sound the best. Very durable with solid construction. The pickup doesn't distort the guitars natural sound and is small enough that it doesn't interfere with my playing.

Comments about Fishman Rare Earth Pro-Rep-102 Humbucking Soundhole Pickup:

Buy this pickup, it has great tone and dosen't get in the way. The batteries last forever to so you don't have to worry about that either. I have not used this pickup for an extended period of time so I don't have much to say about it yet, accept that it's handy, and that it is another quality piece from Fishman.

I've used this pick up for 3 years and still using the original batteries. Installed on a 30 year old Yamaha 12 string and it sounds so sweet. Crisp, clean tone, couldn't ask for a better sound. Look no further, grab one of these.

Comments about Fishman Rare Earth Pro-Rep-102 Humbucking Soundhole Pickup:

The pickup didn't fit into the soundhole of my Cordoba classical guitar. I had to remove one of the screw on brackets in order to squeeze the pickup into the hole. Then I had to try to put the screw on bracket inside the guitar. That was an hour of work. After everything was installed, it didn't work. I mean, as I turned up the volume on the pickup, I could hear more hiss on the amp, but no guitar sound at all. Returned it.

Comments about Fishman Rare Earth Pro-Rep-102 Humbucking Soundhole Pickup:

Solidly built and super easy to install or remove. No discernible buzzing or hum while plugged in. Reasonable price for the quality of sound. Works equally well on finger picking or strumming styles. Long battery life and volume control easy to access.
A great piece of gear for a resonable price. Easy to install (all you need is a Phillips head screw driver) and you can be playing in 5 minutes from the time you take it out of the box. Quiet, faithful reproduction of my acoustic played thru a Crate Taxi battery powered amp. Great for fingerpicking or moderate to heavy strumming. Haven't tried if for recording yet. I wouldn't hesitate to use it on any guitar I own. The ease of removal/installation is a definite plus if you like to use different guitars on occasion for live gigs/recording.
