First introduced in 1954, the Fender Stratocaster was quickly embraced by guitarists for its stunning design, ease of playability, and wide variety of tones available from its three single-coil pickups. It is now recognized as one of the most popular solidbody electric guitar models in history, having been played by such icons as Buddy Holly, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. It has been in continuous production since its introduction, and just keeps getting better with age, as can be seen in the current line of American Standard Stratocaster models.
The first Strats featured a 2-color sunburst finish on a solid ash body, with deep contours and double cutaways, for maximum player comfort and excellent access to the upper frets. Loaded with three single-coil pickups, an innovative “synchronized tremolo” whammy bar system and three-position pickup selector switch, the Strat became a favorite among players in styles ranging from country to R&B, from surf to the newly-emerging rock n’ roll. Over the years, a variety of options and design changes have been made available, from the now-standard 5-position selector switch to the inclusion of dual-coil humbucking pickups on some models, which deliver a deeper, richer tone that is less susceptible to stray electrical interference from poorly shielded appliances near the guitar.
The new American Standard Stratocaster carries on in the classic tradition, featuring all the essential Strat elements, but upgraded with Fender Custom Shop Fat 50’s pickups for a beefier tone, and aged plastic parts like the selector tip and control knobs, for a bit more of that vintage vibe. The neck is a modern C-shape, with hand-rolled fingerboard edges, 22 medium-jumbo frets and a satin finish on the back for smooth playability. Fretboards are maple or rosewood. Other features include a thinner undercoat and urethane finish on the solid alder body for improved resonance, and an American 2-point tremolo, with copper-infused bridge block for increased mass and enhanced tone. Humbucker-equipped models feature a Diamondback dual-coil pickup in the bridge position. Available in a variety of colors, ranging from classic black to Olympic white, or Jade Pearl Metallic, Candy Cola, or the ever-popular 3-tone Sunburst, these axes look as great as they sound, and come with a Fender SKB hardshell case, guitar cable, strap and polishing cloth, to keep them looking sharp. And if that isn’t enough, they are all crafted right here in the good ol’ USA, just like those first iconic Strats that started it all. These are the latest in a long line of classic Fender axes - grab one today, and continue the tradition!
