Comments about 3rd Power Amps Switchback 1x12 Guitar Cabinet:
This is a killer 1x12 speaker cabinet. It sounds HUGE and very solid with tight, bountiful bass. Mine has a Celestion G12H 75 Creamback. The cabinet is very well made and has 3rd Power's triangular interior design, which is supposed to eliminate standing waves.
The only con is that it's big and a bit heavy for a 1x12, but given that it sounds so huge, that's not so much of a con.
These Swithback cabinets have been discontinued and have been replaced by two new cabinet lines. Given how good this cabinet is, and how much 3rd Power's founder James Scott seems to know about tone and the real-world needs of musicians (he has worked as a pro guitarist), I'd trust that the newer cabinets are every bit as impressive if not more so.
3rd Power's customer service is second to none. (Full disclosure: I have no relationship with the company other than having purchased this cabinet.) I sent emails with questions about some of the company's amps and about different speakers to try with this cabinet to 3rd Power, and Mr. Scott, the head honcho, replied to me promptly with detailed information. He comes across as a no-bull, nice guy. Also, if you look at some of the gear message boards, you'll see that Mr. Scott actively participates in the discussions, providing answers to members' questions but also soliciting advice on their needs to aid him in future designs.
I bought this 1x12 because I live in an apartment with limited space. A 1x12 guitar cabinet just can't get better than this. If you have the space for a slightly larger cabinet, you might want to try one of 3rd Power's 2x12s, which allow you to combine two different speaker types, like a V30 with a Celection Gold, or a M- and and an H-type Celestion.
