Comments about AER Compact 60 60W 1x8 Acoustic Guitar Combo Amp:

I play an electric violin through this amp, and am very pleased. Clear sound, no noise, plenty of headroom for playing live gigs - no problem keeping up with the drummer & electric guitar player.

This amp favors the low end, so I set the tone controls (channel 1) with the bass at about 9:00, the mid at about 10:00 and the treble at about 2:00. Not a totally even sound, but very smooth, no hot spots, no screechy/tinny treble sound (violinists, you know what I mean).

Probably my number 1 requirement besides sound is portability, and this amp is THE BEST for that - very light weight, very small (looks good, too).

I've also used the 2nd channel simultaneously for voice (I do a unison scat thing with the violin) and it sounded really good, although I haven't really put the amp through its paces as a purely vocal amp.

Onboard effects are fine & tasty - nothing earth-shattering but way good enough for most uses. Delay is limited - you can't set the length of the delay, and for violin I think the delay is a bit too long. Also the sound is fairly directional, so how you position the amp is critical. I use a small "kick-back" stand that holds the amp a couple feet off the ground and aims up a bit. That way I can hear myself clearly. The rest of the band members seem to hear me just fine as well with no monitors, and the amp is plenty powerful for small venues with no need for a PA.

Overall a really, really good amp - avoids the problems of all the other guitar amps I've tried over the years (noise, screechy treble sound, unevenness of sound across the octaves, etc.). My #2 pick was the Acoustic Image Corus 2-channel. What made me decide on the AER was price (40% less), weight (30% lighter), speaker configuration (Acoustic Image has a down-firing woofer...???) and "right-sizing" (the Acoustic Image is 600 watts - I could start war with that much power). That said, I did not have the opportunity to try either amp before purchasing.

Comments about AER Compact 60 60W 1x8 Acoustic Guitar Combo Amp:

I've been playing for 45 years. Been seriously doing acoustic playing for last 25 years. I play mainly fingerstyle. Bought this amp because it's the amp Tommy Emmanuel uses and an overwhelming number of high level players who use it. Thought I could buy without trying first.

My first impression: very boxy, focused middy tone. This is an amp that has a limited dynamic range: i.e. straightforward amplification, no processed sound shaping to this amp. You have to shape your sound before you get it into this little amp. This is fine, but with my present Ultrasound DI Plus acoustic preamp fed by my K&K Mini and JJB 330 pickups, I was not able to dial in the tone I wanted. I currently use a Fender Acoustasonic SFX, the "Beast". It produces the sound I want but is too heavy to lug around (65#).

I returned the amp for a refund after struggling with it for a couple of days. I so wish that this would have been the ticket for me. I don't want to take anything away from AER - they make quality equipment used by many a pro. I am considering a Schertler Jam 150. Would love to find one to play through.

The AER Compact 60 is a great little amp. Portable, compact, easy presentation, small footprint. I would recommend trying one out before you buy, if you can find a place that stocks them.
I recommend this product with reservations.

Comments about AER Compact 60 60W 1x8 Acoustic Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp does a solidly good job. I am still dialing it in but can see that it is a nice unit that will present limited issues. I do not know how much better it can be in such a small package so I will say this is a 9.9 out of a 10.

Comments about AER Compact 60 60W 1x8 Acoustic Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought the AER Compact 60 when it first was available in the U.S. After years of trying, purchasing, struggling, and then discarding numerous preamps to use with my classical guitar, I tried it in a music store in Wasnington DC. I really liked the sound quality, and even though at the time, I thought is was a bit expensive. I was only looking for an amp I could use for vocal and guitar in quiet stand alone applications. In this capacity the Compact 60 is perfect. Several months later I thought I would try it in a large venue as a preamp to send to the board/ sound system. Ever since that gig, the AER has not missed a single performance. All of my nylon strung guitars sound wonderful through this amp and it has performed consistently no matter the venue. Although the amp has an XLR DI, I use the 1/4 inch out to a Radial DI which I send to the board. Here Is why: 1. The amp's DI can overdrive some sound system inputs. 2. I can add just the desired hint of the amps gorgeous reverb and access control over my EQ in my send. 3. On. large stage with a full band, I split the Radial DI to use a QSC K10 to monitor my guitar.
It's been years since I bought the amp. It is so versatile, and performs flawlessly no matter the demand or requirements of the gig. My guitars use a variety of different pick ups, under saddle piezo's, contact sensors, internal mic's and the amp handles them with ease. I also use acoustic baritones and through the AER, they become 3 dimensional.
Note that because the amp does not have separate HF transducer, the direct out signal will be somewhat brighter. In low volume circumstances when the amp is being used as your stage monitor, you can attenuate HF in the PA system.
Lastly, the second channel does a good job with a high quality dynamic or condenser microphone.
As I said before, I initially thought this amp was expensive. It has proved itself to be one the most cost effective musical instrument purchases I have made in 40 years.
