With good pickups, like Fralins, and a good ash body, maple neck jazz bass, you will get THE perfect Marcus tone out of even a good middle-priced amp (like an SWR Workingman 12). And this setup through an EBS or an Aguilar head is magic.
This floor model outboard pre-amp really beefs up the tone of my MIM P/J. The only thing I think it lacks is a mid control but it is obvious this was built with simplicity in mind to keep the price down.
