Like many of the earlier bassists already noted, I too was looking for a small and punchy cabinet. I looked into Eden (because I've been an Eden owner for years, but there was something about this cabinet I really liked. Not too much mid-range, old school someone already said and I got to tell you, the "old school" comment peaked my interest. I play vintage Fender basses, fretted, fretless and a 6 string Tobias. These cabs work well in all cases with my Eden WT402 head. Pleanty of power and I mean plenty. One thing, if you're hearing any buzzing on the low-B string, check to make sure the speaker mounting screws are tight. They loosen and need a turn, or two to clean up the sound. Oh yeah, I like the cab so much I added a NT cab and it's perfect! Great combination. Two thumbs up, especially with the Eden head!! :-)

Comments about Aguilar GS 112 Single 12" Bass Speaker Cabinet:

I've been playing for 30 years, and the Aguilar GS-122 is the best and most versatile cabinet I've owned. They are solidly built, and have great sound, both for my bass playing and for other applications. I now have four (yes, four) of them, two of the GS-112 with tweeter, and two of the GS-112NT without the tweeter. When I practice or play a small gig or in a pit orchestra, one cab is plenty. For a medium size club, a 112 on top of a 112NT is perfect -- there's plenty of sound to fill the room, with neither cabinet having to work that hard. In a big club or outdoors, I'll stack three or four of them -- the foot print on stage is still quite small, but I've got a enough punch to be heard for miles, even without PA support. Plus, since I stack the drivers vertically, I get a great dispersion pattern, with none of the directional or "beaming" problems you get from 4x10 or similar arrayed cabinets. I drive them with Gallien Krueger amps, and they match up very nicely.

The cabs are a bit heavy for their size, but 40 pounds isn't bad at all and they are small enough to fit easily into trunks and back seats. Besides, I think that weight might be necessary to get such solid sound in such a small cabinet.

My only complaint at all is the handle. I'd prefer a fixed handle to the spring-loaded type.

Did I mention these cabs are versatile? I often use my two 112s with a powered mixer as a vocal PA. Plus, I've also used all four of them as a full PA for DJ jobs and for small club gigs (two to each side, stacked on their ends - the interlocking corners work both ways.) I actually sold my old PA speakers, and all of my old 15" bass cabs. These Aggies do it all!

Comments about Aguilar GS 112 Single 12" Bass Speaker Cabinet:

I own a pair of GS112's I love them as bass speakers. But as the title of my post suggest, I found an "off label" use for these guys. At some point in time, I found myself in need of an extra pair of PA speakers. I thought that the best Bass amps are concert PA's so why not see how the Aguilars sound. In a word HOLY COW. They don't have the distortion that I hear in every other small PA I have ever heard.

      Great Compact Cab

      By

Comments about Aguilar GS 112 Single 12" Bass Speaker Cabinet:

I have my Aguilar GS 112 paired with the GS 112 NT and the combo sounds great. Its a small compact stack that plays twice its size. The 12" speaker hits like a 15 but can punch like a 10". I keep the tweeter at about 40% to keep my warwick and thunderbird sounding natural. Great cab!

      My choice

      By

Comments about Aguilar GS 112 Single 12" Bass Speaker Cabinet:

The Aguilar GS 1220 really has just about everything I was looking for in a compact speaker for bass guitar. It has a full frequency range, good power handling, very high efficiency, accurate reproduction, a bit of old-school midrange "punch", and a very competitive price. I used mine with an Eden WTX-260 or an Acoustic Image Claris, and it's all I need.

      Great but heavy

Comments about Aguilar GS 112 Single 12" Bass Speaker Cabinet:

I love the tone of this cabinet! It is great live and in the studio. My problem with it is that it IS HEAVIER Than you are expecting a 112 to be. Trust me on this one... 42lbs is not in a "light weight" speaker catagory. The Epifani UL line gets you into the lightweight zone, without compromising tone, or volume.

I love these little things. I use a pair of these in a metal band with a full Mesa Boogie stack and they hold their own quite well.

Big Punch in a small Package

      Ask me a question

Comments about Aguilar GS 112 Single 12" Bass Speaker Cabinet:

Tried this against the Eden 112st and to my surprize, this cabinet had much better defined lows, a fatter mid and tolerable highs from the tweeter (I'm not a big fan of tweeters, but it's necessary unless you biamp and get some nice 8's or 10's). This cabinet and is custom driver really put out a lot of low-end and this cabinet IMHO compares with bigger 2x10 cabinets as well. No regrets and no problems.

      Short of Expections...

      By

      from Standard, CA

Comments about Aguilar GS 112 Single 12" Bass Speaker Cabinet:

After spending a lot of time evaluating new cabinet options, I picked the GS 112. I love the compact size, and was really hoping for the best. The first problem I noticed was a crackling sound at low levels. Completely unacceptable. Otherwise, it sounded pretty good - weak bottom end notwithstanding - until I did a side-by-side comparison with my old 1 x 15 cabs (each with a JBL D140), and I concluded the old cabs sounded as good or better. So the Aguilar has been returned. Thinking about an Eden 210XST next...
