Comments about Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 Bass Amp Head:

I was a bit skeptical when I purchased but due to all the positive reviews I was swayed. I have had this amp for around a month now and I am amazed at how many different types of sounds I can get out of the EQ section. With the drive you can get massive dirt, crunchy sound, all the way to that "Marcus Miller" type sound. I use a Fender American Deluxe Jazz 5 with this set-up. I have been using this head with a Fender Rumble V3 1x 15 and an Ampeg bxt 4x10. Super warm, round sound all the way to biting rock tones. I also have a Fender Rumble V3 500 watt amp and the quality of this Aguilar is better. I can also get very pleasing sounds out of the Rumble amp as well though. I also play an Eden WT 800 and sometimes it's just to clinical sounding. The Eden is nice but over priced. I think if your budget is limited go for the Fender Rumble V3 500, but if you can pony up more money, go for the Aguilar. My only 2 complaints would be the need to purchase a case separately and the fact that there isn't an aux input. Other than that, I have really taken to the clarity , punch and tone of this little sucker. Mostly I play R & B, funk, gospel, Jazz, and some rock. At first I had trouble finding a way to get "my sound" which tends to lean towards that fat Marcus Miller sound, but I had to learn how to use the EQ a bit. Took some time to figure out but now I LOVE IT! This amp really has tons of power and sounds louder than 500 watts to be sure. I am satisfied with my purchase. Great quality, American made, Great looking little head.

Comments about Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 Bass Amp Head:

I've put this amp through it's paces from day one...rehearsal ,studio,( great DI ),live gigs...this thing is solid...I'm using 3 different speaker configurations, and the Tone Hammer transitions well...8x10,4x10+15,2 1x10 cabs...and the weight kinda helps...I've used many amps over the years and being the plug and play that it is, I find myself playing a little more often...

My TH500 goes with me to every gig I play. I use it more than my Ampeg SVT-CL at smaller gigs now, and I always have it around as a backup. Truth is, it could permanently replace my SVT, or any other amp I've ever owned.

Comments about Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 Bass Amp Head:

It speaks for itself. Aguilar nails it once again and kills all the competition. It is so light but has a 'thick' tone. It really sounds super defined, not dull, and versatile. The mid frequency knob is super amazing.

Comments about Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 Bass Amp Head:

When this amp is combined with the Aguilar SL112 cabinet it is equally at home with upright or electric bass. Many amps that excel at amplifying upright can sound clinical in conjunction with electric bass. Not the Tone Hammer. It can be clean pristine or distorted, dirty and everything in between--at any volume. The Drive function is really cool. As a recording tool, this amp is a wonderful front end for DI bass as long as you have a mic pre. If you record the rig miking the cab, the fan could be an issue so put the head behind a gobo. That is the only con I can think of.

I tried all the other brands in the stores with upright bass and the tone was always too honky or artificial sounding. I took a chance and bought the Aguilar TH500 from studying videos alone. Now I couldn't be more happy with it.

Comments about Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 Bass Amp Head:

This amp is great. It was my first real experience with the lightweight, Class D amps and I could not be happier. With the EQ flat, the sound is bassy, clear and warm. I use this with 2 Aguilar SL 112's and I can't believe how loud and accurate a rig it is, yet it fits in the trunk of my car. It's a little more expensive than some of the other amps, but it often qualifies for the 15% off promos, and it is Made In The USA.

It's not perfect though- the first one I received had a screw rattling around inside. Of course, MF's excellent customer service took care of the exchange with no hassle at all (The second one has been issue free). The tuner mute is not footswitchable (a minor gripe, as it's easily located on the front of the amp). The EQ pots don't have center detents. The Drive control is a little difficult to wrap your head around in order to use it correctly (thank you internet). And you have to buy the (excellent) bag separately (well worth it though, even though it is like a Seinfeld "european carryall.")

But none of these is a dealbreaker- this is a great sounding, well engineered and surprisingly loud professional quality amp. I'm actually contemplating daisychaining two of them (which is easily done through the front mounted effects loop) as I'm so happy with the TH500 and 2 SL 112 rig, that 2 of them would be an awesome, modular rig of doom, capable of handling just about anything. I cannot recommend this amp enough. Well done Aguilar!

Comments about Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 Bass Amp Head:

I chose this item simply because I needed something fast and it had the reputable name (Aguilar) and was small and cheap. When I got it, it turned out to be much smaller and light weight than I thought and started getting skeptical about how it would sound. Knobs also feel a little cheap. But once I turned it on at the venue, I was blown away by it's tone. It can really rumble a room too, but has such a nice and even tone! Very little EQ is necessary. I played through a Sadowsky Vintage-5. So now I love the fact that it's light weight cause that makes it more portable. Knobs still feel cheap though.
