Been playing for 40+ years; yep an old guy! One of the better dirt pedals out there; I use the Seymour Duncan Twin Tube Classis as the base line to judge all other OD/DIRT pedels. The sustain on this Akai is unreal and with just about zero noise. Can't really do low gain overdrive, (I normally hang around classis rock pushing air through tube amps) but with so many options, there are great distortion tones/settings for all for pushing amps into another dimension. I think my ears started to bleed on some of the higher settings - ahhh a good thang. The only negatives are limited lower gain tones (again, this is not for the weak of heart and those looking for a OD pedal) and he lack of a dual switch to tap two different settings. But for what it is, at a realistic price, it's a real winner.

Comments about Akai Professional Analog Custom Shop Deluxe Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
I really love this distortion pedal. It can provide distortion from old classic metal to modern metal. the high cut switch does cut out a lot of the highs (even cutting into the mids), but sometimes that's what you are going for. I think my favorite thing on the pedal is the mid range selector. You can target specific mid range tones if you want to scoop or expand a certain part of the EQ. It takes a while to tweak the tone, but it does give a great amount of options for creating a tone you like. Since i got this pedal, i have removed all other distortion options from my home rig.
This thing is a little on the larger size, so make sure you have the room on a pedal board for it.

Comments about Akai Professional Analog Custom Shop Deluxe Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
I received this pedal and had to play with the switches for quite a while before I found the best setting for me. That being said, I enjoyed every minute of messing with the settings. The sheer amount of different tones this pedal can produce is amazing - don't let the online videos fool you - It's actually the most versatile distortion pedal I've ever used. One critique is that is does seem to be geared more towards a 'metal' sound, and any gain increase gets out of control very quickly, but otherwise a very solid buy.

Comments about Akai Professional Analog Custom Shop Deluxe Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
Picked this up on the stupid deal, and I would advise any musician that needs to cover a wide range of styles to get this pedal. It is capable of classic distortion to Nu-Metal if that's your thing. Very clear and clean sounding distortion and can go from rhythm to lead without very much tweaking or a boost pedal. I use it live whenever I can, and it is great when my Big Fuzz just wont cut it. Do not look too deep into the Akai vids on the internet as they do not do this pedal any justice, get one for yourself and tweak the settings, you will not be disappointed!

Comments about Akai Professional Analog Custom Shop Deluxe Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
I went ahead and pulled the trigger on this one went it came through the Stupid Deal of the Day.
The pedal has good range of modifiers that can be applied to the distortion, meaning that you can go from classic sounding all the way up to modern metal. The sound isn't the *absolute* best, but it's still pretty good. For the price that I got it at, it's a killer pedal. At it's current going price, though… I don't know. It's good, but maybe not 100+ good. Wait for a sale, or a permanent price drop.

Comments about Akai Professional Analog Custom Shop Deluxe Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
This is similiar to the Metal Zone, but despite all the switches and options, there's always an obnoxious, cheap, metallic tone. The hi cut switch takes out way too much of the treble, and the speaker simulator is pretty good, but not better than what you might get from an amp modeller, or effects processor. No matter what setting you pick, there's always a slight "Ice Pick" tone to the mids. It also has a little less distortion than some other metal themed distortion pedals. Despite it's many switches, it doesn't have a great variety of sound.

Comments about Akai Professional Analog Custom Shop Deluxe Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
These are a pretty solid pedal that get the job done. Not a Heavy Metal distortion pedal by any means but its not meant to be.Lot of Tone options.
I use it through a Tube amp and its just as Good as the high end Brand Names if you can catch it on sale or as the SDOTD ite even better.
