OVERVIEW

The rush you've been looking for.

The Akai E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal picks up where the award-winning E1 left off. This stompbox brings together 16-bit digital delay with times from 0.5ms to an astonishing 35 seconds, tape echo simulations with 4 separate heads, and a looping recorder in one convenient effects pedal.

In addition to offering digital and analog-type delay sounds, user-selectable delay options allow for maximum control of signal output. There are several realtime interval and level adjustment selections as well as feedback level for repeats.

Headrush can also simulate a 4-head analog tape echo machine and it is possible to set the spacing between the virtual heads to create complex multiple delays and repeats. The outputs of each of the virtual heads appear on individual outputs for ultimate flexibility when used with an external mixing console.

The looping mode allows you to record and overdub layer after layer of sound in real time making Headrush an unbelievable live performance tool.

Depending upon which mode is selected, the left switch controls the on/off and play/stop functions while the right switch sets the tap delay time or recording and overdub options. The LED display indicates which effect is in use and blinks in time showing the delay time selected.

FEATURES

0.5ms to 35 seconds delay times
4-head tape echo simulation
Looping recorder: up to 35 seconds

This pedal has so many features and is VERY easy to use. It does have a relatively large footprint, but this is a small price to pay for functionality. It has been able to record any riff I've played, even the longer ones. It saves a recorded segment until the power is disconnected or until you record something over it. Erase feature is very helpful.
Sounds great and hasn't let me down. I do LOVE analog delay, but that's where i use my Memory Toy. i run this pedal last (right before my noise gate) so i can record loops of other effects.
One of the best priced loop/delays out there. I did my research before buying and couldn't find a reason to go with anything else.

Amazing!

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

When I saw AggroI-5's comment, I had to respond...this thing is built like a tank and is absolutely reliable. It's not as fancy as the Boomerang or Line 6 Delay Modeler but I like it better because of it's simplicity. I've been using it as a looper for 8 years and it has NEVER failed me. People should learn how to use the gear before they complain about it.

Extremely useful and well designed pedal that's poorly manufactured

By Michael Salino-Hugg

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

Overall this is a great pedal that works and sounds great, but it seems like i'm not the only person who has experienced problems with how it was made
You can do alot with this pedal.
This pedal is extremely well designed, but they are poorly manufactured. I ran into problem with it randomly erasing a loop in the middle of playing and also one of the foot switches not working. Fixing the solder job on the switch and cleaning the circuit boards of this weird glue/dirty that the factory didn't seem to clean off solved it.
This is a sturdy pedal that works well with guitar/bass/vocals/etc., but should be assembled better for how much it costs.

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

I have been playing professionally since 1965.The Akai headrush is by far the best delay/echo unit I have ever owned. I have had Echolette casstet, Fulltone Tape clone and everything in between. This little box is by far the best investment any musician can make.

The looper stopped looping...

By spectabass

from Ontario

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

This would be a great pedal if it was not for the poor build quality. When it worked it was lots of fun, and super simple to get a solid loop going. But it seemed like every tenth time i would make a loop it would completely cut out in the middle. After only two days the pedal completely stopped working. I'm not even going to bother getting a replacementfrom Akai. Very disappointing.

Save You Money Huge Letdown

By AggroI-5

from Seattle

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

I understand that while you are in loop mode you must finish recording before you get to the end of the loop. However while letting a loop play maybe for a few seconds to a few minutes it will just drop out with out me touching it. and it will be erased as well. I bought for looping and it is unreliable. No tech support from Akai.

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

I agree, this aggro guy is sadly mistaken. This looping pedal is AMAZING all around. It also has a killer tap tempo delay. I've been using this during live acoustic sets for about 3 years now and it has NEVER let me down.

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

The first one I got was defective. I exchanged it for a new one. Right away, the looper was not working 100%. It would cut out once in a while and I would have to re-record. The tape delay is very cool. About two months after I bought it, it just stopped working. The tape delay still makes noise but not the way it should.

    Too hissy

    By Rob-e5E.X

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

Way too noisy to use in any capacity. Seriously, it is not useable in any way. Not a subtle background hiss, a huge in your face white noise.

More loops and layers than a punk rock hairdo

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

If you're a songwriter, you can use this tool to record a rythm, layer over the top of it, and then write a solo. The learning curve is a little steep if you're not familiar with looping peddles or the art of recording, but don't let that scare you away from a fine pedal. On the other hand, if you're into the avante gard side of music, you'll create the most mind warping melodies. This pedal loops, delays, and simulates tape echo, but it's best at looping. Four outputs let you send delayed signals to several amps. 3 pedals for the price of one. It's better than a Memory Man.

    My Akai Headrush and me.

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

This pedal totally exceeded my expectations. After reading various reviews of this pedal saying it is too noisy or not enough loop time, this pedal really exceeded all those comments. Yes the pedal has a bit of hiss but nothing too bad. And the loop function is great, i can make loops so easy, and quick, it would seem like i have another guitarist with me. This pedal is definelty great, especialy the two delay modes which can either simulate tape echo, or analog delay. This is also a must have for any radiohead fans because both guitarists use tis pedal. The only thing l dont like is that theres no reverse delay. But other than that. this thing is a find.

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

I've had one of the original Headrushes for about 5 years. It's a beautiful sounding pedal which is why I like it.Hiss?Haven't had a problem but I use it for live work so it's not as important as recording. The main thing is it has an absolutely gorgeous sound with guitar.None of that digital, artificial clean sound that most digital pedals give you.I have several other pedals and I've actually retired the Headrush to my studio 'cause I don't want to beat it up anymore. But it sounds SO much better than my Boss RE-20 that it's not even funny. For a lovely analog-type sound, I can't imagine you could get any better unless you can afford a genuine tape unit.

    not for everyone

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

I've had this pedal for about 2-3 years now and havent had any real problems with it. I will say if youre looking to store loops get a different loopstation. I see alot of others say that theyve experience a fair amount of hiss from it, which I myself have not experienced. But then again, i run my bass and keyboard through alot of effects already so im probably not noticing it and not really concerned with it. Very good pedal for looping with simple easy features to do so.

Best Delay/Looper Pedal on the Market

    By Jairo Lobusta

    from Jacksonville, FL

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

The Akai Headrush E2 is by far the best looping station for the price. If used in multiples, it packs a better, more user-friendly punch than the Gibson Echoplex. On its own, the Headrush can allow for some very unique layering and texturing. With a skilled user, it can make a second guitarist unnecessary. The overdubbing feature unlocks many possiblities and allows for very thick phrases. The delay and echo effects are nice, but they are just icing on the cake. However, it wouldn't hurt for the recording times to be longer. Also, the sound quality of the looped phrases don't always match the sound quality of what the user is actually playing, but the difference is very subtle. This pedal allows me to create mind-warping loops and keep them running so I can hop on drums and jam with myself. For guitarists wanting to expand their sound, this is a must.

Great features but too much noise

    By SGsucka16

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

This unit had just what i wanted, a lot of features, very versatile, user-friendly, but very very noisy. If you ever plan on turning your amp up higher than 2 with this unit on, don't buy it, the feedback and noise is ridiculously loud.

    Weird play button

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

This pedal worked out very well for me, you can hit record (after the initial loop) and just leave it recording adding a new layer every measure and it's sweet in that regard but the play button is weird. Sometimes if you just barley touch it, it will engage but somtimes not. Somtimes you have to stomp it but then the next time it doesnt work with a stomp so it's really iffy and it sucks trying to sync multiple layers when the play button is poopy. I sent it back and and I'm ordering the boss station (20xl)

this is a really unique pedal. theres alot of good things like the usability is incredibly simple, (I figured all its basic functions without even opening the manual. Finally, when I read the manual, I found more features that made it even easier to use. (you can switch between 3 different effects by stepping on one button then clicking the second. Get the extended warranty!

    By MCKevRock

    from Springfield, IL

Comments about Akai Professional E2 Headrush Delay/Looper Pedal:

I love this pedal. Bought it after seeing Mike Doughty and KT Tunstall use it in their live rigs. Much better performance pedal than the Boss RC20XL. About 6 months into using it, the "PLAY" button began to intermittently not trigger. This if you don't hit PLAY, your recording will start playing after about 20-30 seconds, with no way to just cancel it. Embarrassing! Dealing with Akai service is a nightmare, it is all done by 3rd party companies that seem to be motivated to NOT work on warrantied items. Very rude. Now my Headrush's delay times and feedback are not working properly. I can't crank the feedback up or it will stall out and the lowest end of the delay knob adjustment is not as fast as it used to be. Also, the unit now turns off intermittenly in the middle of looping. So I'm probably looking at a new circuit board which is probably too pricey.I should have gotten the extended warranty on this if I knew how poor Akai's service was. On he plus side, I love how this pedal works and sounds and it has great headroom for using in my Mesa-Boogie's FX loop.
