I am an active musician playing rock/country/soul styles with a P bass. I had been playing an SVT classic through an Ampeg 4x10 for about 5 years. Over that time with my SVT, I would generally line-out into a PA during larger gigs and couldn't crank the amp enough during small/medium size gigs to really take advantage of the power of that HUGE amp. This kind of rig makes sense for musicians who consistently play large venues, but not for me. As such, this combo seemed very attractive. For me, the B200R provides many benefits:-- portability - 69 lbs. with castors (included, but not pictured) in a relatively small box. The ability to easily fit this thing in my trunk makes me very happy. -- tube preamp - noticeably results in a fatter, warmer tone when compared with the B100R. -- flexible tone controls - low/mid/treble boosts are very useful-- balanced line out - -- the combo look great!!-- just quite enough power!Drawbacks:-- solid state power stage (but one must sacrifice for portability)-- worries about QC. My B200R seems to be okay but other musicians place the QC of older Made in the USA Ampegs in higher regard (not sure if the B200R was ever Made in USA). Overall:-- Of all the combos I've tested in this class, the sound of this combo approaches the standard "all tube" sound most accurately.-- You'll line-out during larger gigs, but most people do that regardless. -- Enough power to compete with a loud rock band. However, if you are constantly competing with very loud musicians or are dependent on a wall of bass sound while monitoring onstage, you may need a bit more headroom.

I tried this in the local music store and it buzzes everytime you play a low D. I own an HPT15 and Ampeg replaced the first one I bought because it buzzed just like this model. If the prior reviewer still has the buzzing problem I would complain because they will replace the amp if you are persistent. I think this a big problem for Ampeg with their combos because I have also read other similar complaints on this and other sites.

I hope they go back and re issue this amp.

Comments about Ampeg B200R Rocket Bass Diamond Blue Series 1x15" 220 Watt Bass Combo Amp:

I had one, got if for a song as Ampeg was blowing them out to get rid of them. Mine was good in terms of rattle (you had to tighten the screws that held the amp to the cab every 2 hours of playing. I have to say in spite of what was a bad design, this was probably the best sounding combo I ever owned. I panicked and sold it (for a profit) and have heard back from the buyer that they absolutely love the amp. I hope they re make this amp, I see Ampeg is starting to make stuff in the USA (heritage series) and I think with a litle bit of tweaking, they would have a much sought after classic on their hands. I miss mine.

    Wowzer - Nice Amp

Comments about Ampeg B200R Rocket Bass Diamond Blue Series 1x15" 220 Watt Bass Combo Amp:

No issues at all in the quality control department, and the sound is SUPER. The EU is very tweekable and the sound just has that thing - I suppose you call it TONE - as much as an amp can provide at least.Gets pretty loud, will shake a room. But it's not going to shake an auditorium. Fine for smaller gigs I think, or line out the thing and use it as a monitor and tone machine. I will be changing out the pre-amp tube soon just to make sure I'm getting the most out of her. Great amp, about 70 pounds which is doable for me.Killer looks in person by the way.

Great sound - Not so great quality...

Comments about Ampeg B200R Rocket Bass Diamond Blue Series 1x15" 220 Watt Bass Combo Amp:

I've had my B200R for about 2 years. Within the first couple weeks of owning it, the preamp tube went bad. Being a DIY type guy, I decided to repair it myself; removing the chassis from the cabinet was a PITA. It seemed to me as if someone forced the amp into the cab and/or pounded it into place with a sledge hammer, as the sides of the amp chassis were badly bent up. Replacing the tube itself was a breeze, and cheap, but still sucked because it was new! After a couple more weeks it started to develop a rattle somewhere inside the amp, it's not awful, but again, it sucks. The only reason I still have this amp, is because it sounds great... It's perfect paired with my flatwound strung p-bass, and nails that motown sound, but is also no slouch for rock, and reggae. Oh yeah, now that I'm thinking about it - the direct line -out has a bad ground (I think), and buzzes, but I haven't had a chance to fix it yet. In the end, I wouldn't recommend this to anybody, unless they want a $600 fixer-upper.

Best Bass Amp I have owned

Comments about Ampeg B200R Rocket Bass Diamond Blue Series 1x15" 220 Watt Bass Combo Amp:

I love this amp. It has a warm but clear tone. It handles my 5 stringwith ease. To those who complain about rattles: BE SURE TO REMOVETHE CASTERS WHICH PULL OUT FROM THEIR MOUNTS! (Mine rattledon "E" pitches) The amp has quality rubber "feet" to sit on. Furtherrattles may be caused by loose chassis bolts on the SIDES. DO NOT overtighten these or any bolts. Hope this helps!

    Classic retro Ampeg....

Comments about Ampeg B200R Rocket Bass Diamond Blue Series 1x15" 220 Watt Bass Combo Amp:

This amp for me has been a very solid workhorse. No rattles, buzzing, etc. The '60s diamond blue look is great, oven-type knobs,3-band equalizer, headphone jack, and even a blue power light. I had a portaflex 15" cabinet just like it years ago, but this takes the cake. It packs enough power for small to medium size venues. I use a Rickenbacker 4003 and what a sound through this thing. Had it for 6 months now, no problems. Also comes at a decent price. Classic retro Ampeg.

Comments about Ampeg B200R Rocket Bass Diamond Blue Series 1x15" 220 Watt Bass Combo Amp:

Pretty impressive sound this little amp giveespecially from the horn. Really crystal bright high. Wish I could get alittle more bottom end of this amp. This is my first combo amp after stacks. My B2-RE is my other amp using a vintage V-6B cabinet. A horn is a must with any cab. Excuse my spelling mistakes. The -15db plugin makes this amp quiet.

    good

Comments about Ampeg B200R Rocket Bass Diamond Blue Series 1x15" 220 Watt Bass Combo Amp:

I have been playing on all solid state practice sized amps since picking up my bass. At my local music store I just picked up a Fendar jazz bass and plugged into this little vintage looking bass amp cube...I was blown away..the first note I hit sounded so deep and bassy not at all strained and thin like on my practice amp...after dialing in the EQ properly ..this thing get phenominal tones! an absolute deal...though i dont have active pickuos, the active input is quite handy...the price is good too, compared to a Fender Bassman of this wattage...looks are deceiving! buy this amp if you like east controls and serious tone!

    Vintage But Modern

Comments about Ampeg B200R Rocket Bass Diamond Blue Series 1x15" 220 Watt Bass Combo Amp:

This amp is wicked. I got mine at a steal of a price but would have still bought it no matter what. the sound you can get from it is incomparable to others in this price range. doesn't sound bad with a precision bass, but its when you plug in a jazz bass, this thing will growl like nothing else in its range. doesn't have the total tone of an all tube amp but it definitely will give you a much warmer and more colored sound then anything solid state. and as for the tweeter it is not overkill at all.
