Well, I was really skeptical for a long time about this amp because I took caution to a lot of the bad reviews I read. I have the 100 watt BA 115 and it sounds great, so I wanted the 220 watt one. Well I finally took the chance and bought it, and glad I did because it's a real monster. I really can't understand so many bad reviews unless previous versions were just not good and had problems. But mine sounds absolutely awesome. Probably the best sounding amp I've ever had (and I've had a lot to compare it to) It has way more than enough power for any situation. So people who say it's not loud enough, I don't get! This thing will blow your house down if you turn the gain past 2 with the master up. I tried it at about 5 and thought it was gonna break my windows and rattle the roof off. It's clean and very deep. Crank the Master to 8, 9 or 10 and use the Gain as your volume, I doubt you'll turn past half way for any inside gig. If you crank the Gain all the way and use the Master as your volume it's not as good. Or just find a happy medium. Anyway, I love this thing and would definitely recommend it. It has that nice, solid, clean, smooth, deep, DEEP Ampeg sound and tone. The on board digital tuner is very nice too and works great. I'm glad I took a chance and ignored the negative reviews because it's a great amp. Hope this helps anyone who is, or has been leery like I was. One word of caution: The wheels are for moving it only! You don't have to put the castors on that come with it. If you do need them to roll it somewhere, DO NOT keep them on while you play because they will make it rattle. They go on and come off very easily in about 5 seconds if you need them though. Just pull them off and set the amp on it's rubber feet or you'll think the amp itself is rattling to death when it's only the hard wheels. Personally, I just pick it up and move it and will probably never use the wheels, not unless I had to roll it far. Good luck!

Got this amp for church about 3 years ago, and in that time, have had it repaired TWICE. First time was for the tuner emitting a low beep constantly (and pitches while playing). After a couple months, same problem PLUS overall power kept cutting in/out. Finally had the repair guys cut the tuner from the signal chain & fixed the power issues which was a bad power cable connection & grounding problem.
The amp works fine now, but it doesn't get that Ampeg breakup that I always wanted. The Gain does almost nothing for it. It does get loud enough, but no dirt. If you want a very clean sound or want good warmth for practice, this is your amp... After you send it to shop...

    Blown amp

    By Carlos Flores

Comments about Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass Series Combo Amp:

I understand that the bass amp was used but when i read that it is in good condition - meaning: only noticeable surface scratches but PERFECT sound , that is what i was expecting. Unfortunately, i received the amp in quite excellent surface condition but the speaker was blown. Every time i give the amp some volume the sound gets messed up. Unfortunate case of trusting the quality description given on the site...

    AMPEG BA115HP IS A JOKE

    By mike mavrigian

Comments about Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass Series Combo Amp:

    .
After trying out two at local stores (both had problems of low volume, even cranked to 10 on master volume and gain. I assumed they just happened to be duds. I ordered one anyway, banking on the Ampeg name and reputation. Speaker buzzes, and even though RATED at 220 watts, cranked to 10, sounds pitiful. Not loud enough to feel the vibration. My old, beat up Fender BXR 200-watt sounds about twice as loud. VERY disappointed in Ampeg quality. Maybe others out there lucked out with good ones, but this is the third in a row I've tried, so that tells me that this line of amps has a problem. Just based on my limited experience with the BA115HP... I will never trust Ampeg again.

Comments about Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass Series Combo Amp:

I've had the pleasure of using this amplifier in a community theater setting, in a house that seats about 1000. I've got the EQ knobs all dialed to 12:00, and it sounds really great. The bass I'm using has a 3-band EQ, with the bass turned slightly higher and the mids slightly down. It's got a ton of volume and is warm and full. Couldn't ask for more from an amp in that setting. I like it and recommend it.

Comments about Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass Series Combo Amp:

Great sounding amp, easy to transport, and use. My only complaint it that i've had to re- mount the rubber feet several times, because of the cheap screws used to install them, and when i received the amp, i found nearly every fastener loose on the cabinet, i retightened all the loose hardware making sure not to strip the board. these loose fasteners could contribute to undesired rattles. But aside from that it's a great amp.
I got tired of lugging my old and very hevy Harke rig, so i needed a good smaller bass amp for smaller venues. A friend had a BA 115 HP and i tried it out, It blew me away! So i ordered one and been using it almost exclusively for over a year, every weekend. It also looks good along side my vintage B-15 N .

Comments about Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass Series Combo Amp:

Well I have had the ba115hpt for over 5 years and I must say this thing is great. Mine is the 220w version with the tube preamp and I have not had a single issue ever. I can't believe this many ppl had problems with this combo as these are the first reviews I have read. I have played this amp with a church band in front of 1000+ ppl all the way down to practicing in my old appt with headphones and this amp sounds great doing it all, and took the travel well too. I play guitar and bass, and this is the best sounding combo I have ever heard for any price. I can get real punchy mids w sharp highs and full bass (to cut through a muddy mix), alll the way to earth rattling lows with highs rolled back.. This amp can do it all with style. This was my first ampeg way back when and this is still my go to bass amp when the size venue is right. My only gripes are that it has no effects loop or compressor (which I would like to run). this is your grab and go bass amp which sounds it best with nothing but a bass plugged into it. I'm the type of player who likes to feel the music and this amp definitely delivers. It'll make your nose hairs rattle if your too close to it. I've played in my post-grunge band with a LOUD drummer and the amp performed flawlessly, actually he was asking to turn it down. It sucks to hear about all the ppl who have had problems with this amp but I simply love mine. Simply fantastic tone at any volume. out of my many guitars/amps/basses/effects this is my one piece of irreplaceable equipment (well maybe my 86' Gretsch country club too). I get reminded every time I play this amp how great it really sounds. For the longest time, this was the most accurate tuner i owned! i just wish I could hook up another ba115 cab up to it. I would buy this amp again in a second, but after these reviews I'd get the warranty too.

    Practice amp at best...

Comments about Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass Series Combo Amp:

Left my old amp in a friends care and he broke it, received this as a replacement. I play in a local blues/alt rock band with a powerhouse drummer and a few jazz combos throughout the city; this thing just could not deliver for very long... Its got a very sweet tone but I think ampeg tried putting too much power in such a small component and when played at the levels needed for gigging it would be shaking all over the place. Connected to a mix system you get an irritating hiss. About 2 weeks after having the amp, the speaker shorted out and made a noise comparable to a grass weed eater. I was still within my 30 days at guitar center so I traded it in for a fender rumble 150, just what I needed. :) Not for gigging musicians thats for sure...

Just like the last reviewer mine died after one month. Ever since Ampeg started building these in China their amps have really suffered in quality and reliability. Save yourself the grief and buy a mesa boogie. They cost more but are made in the US but they are worth it. I am using an M3 Carbine combo which replaced my Ampeg.

Comments about Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass Series Combo Amp:

I needed a good, loud bass amp and decided to spend a little extra money to buy this Ampeg. The amp sounded AWESOME to begin with but after a few months of playing once a week it broke down. I can play at really low volume but if I turn it up at all it smokes and smells like melted plastic. No plans to buy another Ampeg again

Comments about Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass Series Combo Amp:

Just bought this amp yesterday. Getting tired of lugging the Ampeg 8-10" cab and the SVT4 rack to practices and gigs. This little thing kept up surprising well with my bandmates with stacks and a very loud drummer. no complaints with sound or volume. durability is yet to be seen. If it is built as well as the other "big gear" I own, it will do well!

Comments about Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass Series Combo Amp:

This is by far one of the best combo amps on the market for any style of playing. I've played for almost 21 years now and have had several amps and configurations of heads and cabinets and this one sounds the best and works in small to medium sized clubs without needed help from a PA. It's loud, heavy and it is rugged. I recently had a car accident going 70 m.p.h. and my Ampeg was in the back of my suburban. It ended up with a hole the size of my fist in the top of the cabinet and a dented control plate, but to my surprise, it plays without any problems! A little ugly patch job and it's back on the road. If you are going to run it through a PA, use a quality mic, DI or get a good preamp/DI. The one built in is not very good and you don't get a good sound through a professional PA despite what others might tell you. Each club we've played at is not happy with the XLR out feature on this amp. I use the Sansamp Tech21 RBI. Not only does it work great with the PA, it also makes my ampeg sound like 4-10"s standing on a 15". Check out the reviews on this piece of gear and buy an Ampeg for life.

Comments about Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass Series Combo Amp:

I bought this amp about 4 months ago and have been putting it "through the wringer" to see how well it will work under different situations. I have used it in studio settings with success, as well as in live venues (large and small, indoor and outdoor). This is an excellent workhorse! The classic black Ampeg look will be a welcome sight at any gig, playing any genre. I prefer the tone of 10's over 15's, but I bought this unit as B-stock, so the price was too good to pass up. :) Even for a 15" and a 1" horn, this cab has the goods with tone. The XLR out is dead quiet, so running it into house PA or to the console when recording works well. There is no ground lift though, so if you do get hum though the PA, you may just have to mic the cab. The built in tuner is a very convenient feature, and the built in mute switch is great for tuning between songs during the set. After all, the audience doesn't necessarily want to hear you tune. ;) The included casters make this heavy combo very easy to tote around. I just wear my gigbag on my back and roll this combo in front of me. The EQ section is a simple 3-band preamp with a 5-way selector knob with preset EQ filters. I like settings 2 and 3 on the selector knob. The preamp's EQ is a passive boost only system. This works well enough, but I would have liked to see an active circuit with a flat EQ setting allowing for cut or boost. The only thing thing this combo could use is a built in compressor, but there is a limiter circuit protecting the driver from peaks, and this levels off the peaks of the tone. This is a good value and worth the investment.Bottom line: Whether you're a beginner or a pro, you'll be well served with this inexpensive combo amp. Ampeg's classic tone meets real world sensibility.

Although many people like this amp, I've had it with the service from Loud Technologies, and anyone else that has tried to fix this amp. I owned it two weeks, it started acting weird, and has not stopped acting weird. I tried to practically give it away and couldn't do it. So now after 5 years of owning this, I've put more into it than I spent on it in the first place, and it still sounds like a mistake. Save your money and buy SWR.

Comments about Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt 1x15" Bass Series Combo Amp:

This is a quality product. It'll handle the road and it can blast for hours without breaking, and of course it sounds great. The reason why buying this doesn't make sense is because it is a super loud practice amp but for some reason I had to MAX this thing out on every show and we played in small bar venues. 220 watts? I'm not so sure. I upgraded to an Acoustic 200 watt head and their 250 watt cabinet, and it sounds better, LOUDER, and was cheaper than this! Basically, get this if you need a loud quality combo, but I am writing this to warn those people who think this will be good enough for live shows with a loud guitarist and drummer.

I loved the amp... right up until it stopped working one month after I bought it. The red light just went out. I play for a church and right in the middle of a song the red power light winked out.The amp has great EQ presets. It is not as loud as my Workingman was. But the main issue is - it died. There doesn't seem to be any fuse, either.

This amp is a complete piece of junk. I had in plugged in for no longer than 2 minutes before it died on me. If you're looking to get ripped off, this is the amp to buy. It's made in China with very poor quality control. A paper cup with a string attached to it would work better.
