I want to start by saying that I am a professional Rock Bassist with 20+ years of experience to include touring, recording and producing. For years I used older Ampegs to include the SVT2Pro, SVT3Pro, SVT4Pro and Ampeg 410 and 810 cabinets. About 7 years ago I got tired of Ampeg's poor customer service and shoddy workmanship on their new products. After a few lengthy repairs which were a huge hassle and headache I left Ampeg and went to Ashdown using their UK model ABM500 Heads and UK model 410 and 810 Cabinets. Along the path between Ampeg and Ashdown I tried the Hartke LH series heads, Mesa's Titan V12 and M9 Carbine heads and GK's 1001RB and MB Fusion 800 Head.

My current "touring rig" is the Ashdown UK 810 Classic with the UK ABM500 EVO II Head. For smaller local cover gigs and smaller room I use the Ashdown head with the Ashdown Classic NEO 210 Cabinet.

Having said all of this, I was intrigued by Ampeg's new BA210v2 and with the "sale' price I figured why not give it a shot. I got the combo the other day and I have to say that I am VERY impressed. The tone is GREAT and has a wide range of variations so that you can dial in almost any sound you are looking for. The scrambler is decent. IMO it is best used for light grind and growl as to my ears it gets a little harsh when used all out. (Think OD / Tube grit when subtle.....Fuzz/Distortion when extreme). The coolest feature by far is the fact that the 60 degree wedge position is perfect for stage applications! The tone of the amp remains consistant across all volume levels and it is surprisingly loud for the wattage rating. This means that with an external cabinet running at 4 Ohms it would be MORE than enough for even large stages.

Bottom line is this: This is a great stride by Ampeg of returning to their glory days. Can't go wrong for the money between the tonal variance, functionality and portability. I'm most likely oing to replace my $1700 Ashdown 210 setup with this amp so don't think this is "beginner gear". The real proff however will be how the amp holds up over time and if there does happen to be an issue, has Ampeg become more customer centric and "modern" along with their new designs?

Got this combo, I was really excited especially since I like Ampeg. The price was exceptionally reasonable. The specifications were great, it has a speaker output for an extra cabinet. But, one of the 10 inch speakers or I think it was, rattled. I went through trying to find the source, but I don't know exactly where it was coming from. I sent it back asking for another, but after I slept on it decided not to try this model again. Just wonder what on earth they do for quality control. I still like Ampeg and would try other equipment they offered. I in fact play through an older Ampeg 15 inch combo, which does well.

I could not be more pleased with this combo. It really delivers the old Ampeg sound. Of course the portability also is great. I paired it with a Markbass 15 cabinet and it rocks.

Comments about Ampeg BA210V2 2x10 Bass Combo Amplifier:

Strong sound and strong construction! Bought this level 3 scratch and dent (slight cosmetic tear in cabinet) as a practice amp but is proving to be perfect for performances as well in small to medium venues. Great vintage Ampeg sound (comparable to our much heavier and bulky but worthy Ampeg tube head and 4x10 cabinet)! Did I say strong construction? We played a weekend festival Saturday and Sunday. Packed up Saturday eve and headed back to our studio. On the way, a heavy gust of wind (residual effects of Hurricane Matthew) grabbed the amp out of the back of the truck, flipped it end over end a couple of times and then skidded down the highway. The amp went from "new" to "roadworn" in the blink of an eye! We figured it was ruined. Picked it up, took it on in to the studio and plugged it up. Unbelievable, it worked and sounded perfect! The control knobs were unscathed because of their recessed design. This is one exquisite amp and all I need, from the studio to the stage, it's great! And it's built like a tank! Thanks Ampeg!

This apparently has a foot switch in the manual but not with the product in the box. Is a very versatile amplifier and overall a decent amplifier. If you have to call service or sales there may be a large chance of confusion.

Get this amp! Invest! If you need some good power with a very smooth sound you need this amp right here. So many great features, you can hook up a cab to it even so you can get even more bang for your buck! Haha. The kickback thing is nice too. I got this one on the open box deal, but it was like brand new when I got it which is awesome. 450 watts of pure beastliness

Comments about Ampeg BA210V2 2x10 Bass Combo Amplifier:

I decided to add a bass combo amp because I was tired of hauling a svt 410 cab which weighs 89 lbs and an old svt solid state head which has to be 40lbs. I received the BA210 today. it arrived in perfect shape. I hooked up a 5 string bass and put it through some tests. The sound was great, clear as a bell, loud and great deep tone...and only 48lbs....my back will love me on the next gig. I still love the old rig, but the BA210 looks to be a keeper, and when we get in a large venue I will add the 40 and have 450watts and 6 10's...so whats not to like.

I ordered a level 1 open box and and it showed up dead. They took it back and I ordered the GK MB210. This looked like it would have been great. The wedge shape, removable grill cloth and very simple gain and eq setup was very nice. The GK is great too but I think I would buy the BA210 again if i could do it all over. Maybe thats just me wondering what might have been.

Comments about Ampeg BA210V2 2x10 Bass Combo Amplifier:

I have been playing bass since I was 14, and about to turn 54. My preferred set up is an Ampeg Tube amp with a 4 x 10 cabinet with a horn. But that weighs too much for me to use on a regular basis. The combo is not too heavy and has a full sound. Has a direct out to go into a PA. If you need more volume, you can add another cabinet. I play mostly jazz with a standup, but if I were to play rock again live, I'd run two of these in tandem. My music man 5 string sound great with just the 2 x 10s, and the b string doesn't overpower the speakers. Great buy for what it brings to the table. You'd have to spend a grand to see any major improvement in sound, if you went with a Mark Bass or something of that higher caliber.

Comments about Ampeg BA210V2 2x10 Bass Combo Amplifier:

I purchased BA210V2 2 weeks ago and am loving it. I made the switch from an amped bass head / cabinet amp that I used exclusively and dreaded lugging around from show to show. I spent a lot of time researching combo amps, especially more expensive brands prior to purchasing this model. However, I demo'd this amp and was amazed at it's sound. I wasn't as concerned about the power bc I run the amp direct through a sound system at small and large bars where we perform. Regardless, this amp is powerful! I love the overdrive feature that can be adjusted to keep the low end from falling out. I debuted this amp on Saturday at a large venue and the sound was awesome with my Ibanez Sr700. Everyone in the band commented how good the bass sounded. The portability of the amp did not take away from the sound. This amp isn't as light as its competitors but still not a beast. I'm also really enjoying the line in for IPhones. I've been practicing with headphones and playing along with our songs and it sounds great... My wife and kids are appreciating this feature the most. Overall I love this amp and am glad I stayed with Ampeg. Totally worth it without spending double the money on other brands.

Comments about Ampeg BA210V2 2x10 Bass Combo Amplifier:

I started in 1963 with an AMPEG B-15 which was ideal for the medium and smaller clubs but when it came to the big time I switched and used the lower register of an electric piano for my bass line. This is not the B-15 of olden days but it is a very nice compact and powerful amp. The price was right especially for this quality and sound. The additional feature of having an extension plug already set up leads me to believe they will be offering a matched speaker cabinet for those needing more.
