OVERVIEW

Portable, powerful, and toneful.

The Ampeg BA600/210 is not just another everyday bass combo. Even though it packs dual 10" LF drivers, an HF horn (with Level control), and a whopping 600 watts of pure power, the BA600/210 is easily transportable. You get Ampeg's legendary tone-shaping thanks to it's multi-stage 12AX7 tube preamp, style control, 3-Band EQ, and Ultra-Hi/Lo switches, all of which make it extremely versatile. It even lets you choose between 2 channels, the vintage B-15 channel and a more modern tone with the simple click of a switch.

By integrating a Class D power section and universal switching power supply, Ampeg was able to keep the BA600/210's weight factor low, without sacrificing power output or sound quality. The combo also features a variable compressor, a selectable pre/post XLR tube DI with Level control (the same as Ampeg's SVT-DI), and an effects loop.

If you're a semi-pro to professional player seeking high-powered tone in an extremely versatile and portable package, this bass combo from Ampeg is a great solution.

I bought it about 1 month ago and immediately use it for live sessions in clubs/pubs. After the first date the combo started to produce a terrible clanking coming from the back of the cabinet. In particular it came from the metallic panel which constitues the back of the amplifier. So I checked the thighten torque of the screws and they were not correctly locked! Just to be clear..I had to fix all the screws and 6 of them (those which secure the back panel) were replaced with 6 new slot screw, as this model allows to apply a torque higher without damaging the thread on the head (in spite of Phillips screw). The result is that now the combo works well!

I bought this amp because I needed a warm-sounding combo for playing small/medium sized gigs. The amp has great features and a nice warm sound. I read the negative reviews and figured these were just isolated bad experiences. After 2 rehearsals and 1 gig, the screws literally started coming out the sides and there was a horrible buzz out of the back due to electronics coming loose. The skin also was poorly glued on and started coming off. This amp has a lot going for it, but Ampeg just completely dropped the ball on assembly and exterior quality. If you love the amp and insist on giving it a shot, save your receipt and know the return policy. (I replaced it with a Fender Bassman which is solid as a rock.)

Comments about Ampeg BA600 / 210 2x10 Bass Combo Amp:

I bought this amp about a year ago and I am already about to sell it. There is a sensor inside that will completely cut off your sound if you reach a certain volume that is really not even very loud. I play gigs at bars so I really don't even need that much power and this amp is still just not enough. Can you imagine being in the middle of a show, you playing at medium volume, and all of a sudden your bass just stops? not cool. I love ampeg but I don't love this amp. It makes no sense for an amp to contain the potential of 600 watts and not allow you to play anywhere near that loud.

Has Ampeg Discontinued this Series Yet?

Comments about Ampeg BA600 / 210 2x10 Bass Combo Amp:

Yikes - please read the reviews on all of the Chinese made BA series on this site and others. 75% of the owners report poor construction and rattling and buzzing issues making them unplayable. I went through 3 of these and finally gave up and went with Mesa combos. When I spoke to Ampeg about these they blew it off that it was only a small percentage that had the problems. Do not buy these amps new or used!

Comments about Ampeg BA600 / 210 2x10 Bass Combo Amp:

I will agree the first editions did have its problems, anything new needs upgrades. I have had no problems what so ever. I actually have other bassist and the end of the show, to come up and ask about my tone and overall sound. I owe several ampeg amps ( Ampeg BA210SP 2x10" Bass Combo Amplifier (with DSP Effects),B-410HLF with B4R Head) THANKS AMPEG

      Don't Waste Your Time!!!

      By Slapstyle

Comments about Ampeg BA600 / 210 2x10 Bass Combo Amp:

It's got great features. Lightweight, portable, loud and it sounds like an Ampeg. The quality and durability are terrible. Mine fried after less than a month so I was able to get a refund. I wasn't even gigging it, just using at medium volume for practice. All I've heard is horror stories about the amp and I bought one anyway and now I have my own to tell. Pure crap!

      Not great

      By R

      from New England

Comments about Ampeg BA600 / 210 2x10 Bass Combo Amp:

The amp blew up at the first gig. No power at all. I sent it back to Ampeg. I asked them why the modern channel only had 1/2 the power of the vintage channel. They said "that's the way it was designed". I also asked them what they had to fix. They said they replaced all the tubes and resoldered a bunch of stuff. Not what you would expect from a brand new amp. Once I got it back it works OK but it just doesn't sound that great. 600 watts? Hard to believe. The only thing good I can say about the amp it that it's lightweight. Definitely not worth the money.

      Bad Buy

      By DoubleBall

      from Louisville, KY

Comments about Ampeg BA600 / 210 2x10 Bass Combo Amp:

I was interested in this rig because it's only 50 pounds with 600 watts of power. I have been using it for 5 months. I am on my second one because the first one "blew up", not the speakers, but the amp! The cabinet is poorly made (on both). The sound is poor (sounds hollow) despite many adjustments. I'm surprised this is an Ampeg. This is a bad buy!

      Great On Paper...

Comments about Ampeg BA600 / 210 2x10 Bass Combo Amp:

I bought this amp a couple months ago and have been using it in various venues ranging from my living room to a 1000 person auditorium and I am very disappointed. First of all, the amp rattles like crazy because of poor construction. I took it apart and some of the mounting screws and bolts were missing and some were sliding around inside the amp. But even with all the screws in place, the chassis is simply not secured to the cabinet well enough. It also is definitely not 600 watts loud; it's barely loud enough to go with a full band. The direct out is decent and if you couple it with a good PA and sub, this thing rocks. The vintage channel is pretty smooth sounding but the modern is pretty much unsuable. If you must have this much power, save up and buy a head/cab configuration.
