OVERVIEW

Portable, powerful, and toneful!

The Ampeg BA600/115 bass combo epitomizes portability. Despite containing a 15" LF driver, an HF horn (with Level control), and 600W of power, this just over four cubic feet cab is quite transportable thanks to removable casters and its very manageable 50 pound weight.

Soundwise, it's also quite versatile. You get Ampeg's legendary tone-shaping thanks to the multi-stage 12AX7 tube preamp, Style control, 3-Band EQ, and Ultra-Hi/Lo switches. With the simple click of a switch you can also choose between the vintage B-15 channel or the aptly named Modern tone.

Ampeg integrated a Class D power section and universal switching power supply, which helps keep the BA600's weight factor low, but doesn't sacrifice power output or impressive sound quality. It also features a variable compressor, selectable pre/post XLR tube DI with Level control (the same as our stunning SVT-DI), and an effects loop.

      Comments about Ampeg BA600/115 1 x 15 Bass Combo:

This amp looks fantastic. All the motifs are in place. I practice with a cover band, and this thing can't keep up with older guys. For practice it would be awesome... but the price?!!! The intern must have designed this pitiful thing. Spend less and go for the Micro CL. I know this website only lets you use a limited vocabulary, but you get the idea. This thing stinks!

      Comments about Ampeg BA600/115 1 x 15 Bass Combo:

I was attracted to the Ampeg BA600 115 because of 1)the Ampeg name, 2)the low weight, and 3) 600W of power. Early on, I was getting the tone I wanted at lower volumes, but I experienced a lot of clipping, vibrating, and a loud hum/buzz. Still...it was very portable, and sounded good. Then after 2 years of moderate gigging it fried during soundcheck, and started to make a very strange warbling computer sound. It's my understanding that this amp is now discontinued. It was easier for them to send me a brand new unit than to repair it. I'm now looking at a Little Markbass.

          Comments about Ampeg BA600/115 1 x 15 Bass Combo:

The Ampeg BA600/115 is unquestionably the lowest of the low. The quality is horrible. From vibrations and rattles to the covering peeling away from the case, it really is very low quality. In 18 months of owning mine, I have only used twice. After attempting to use it at practice it spent 6 months at the local Ampeg service center. When I got it back, it still rattled at one quarter volumn. It has resided in storage ever since. I can't even sell it because nobody wants it! As a repeat Ampeg SVT customer I can only state that Ampeg has lost my business forever.

          Too good to be true?

                Comments about Ampeg BA600/115 1 x 15 Bass Combo:

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. I run a 1979 SVT Classic Head and an 810 cab. It has the awsome sound and power but they call it "The Fridge" for a reason. When I saw Ampeg 600 watts in a combo, I thought finally. It's light enough to pack around but it starts clipping at around half volume and the 15 is really starting to distort there as well. The sound range is great. Maybe good for practice if guitar amps are 50 watts and drummer isn't too loud. This is the only one I tried so there may have been issues with it but 600 watts through 1 15 inch speaker, a couple of my tech friends didn't believe it would do it. I guess they were right.

                mixed feelings

                Comments about Ampeg BA600/115 1 x 15 Bass Combo:

I've had the BA600-115 for almost a year and it fried after about ten gigs. I was going to trade it but after getting it back from the repair shop it really seems like a different amp. The tech said the power supply board wasn't soldered properly and he resoldered it all. Now it sounds pretty decent. And at 50 lbs, well, we all know why I bought it. I've done two shows since the repair and now think I'll "wait and see".

                Comments about Ampeg BA600/115 1 x 15 Bass Combo:

The weight was one of the main factors in buying this product. I also was depending on the Ampeg name and the fact it's pushing 600W. I have the 1/15 and at first I was cranking the master to get my sound and it seemed that this was causing an overload or something because I was getting a crackling out of my speaker. I stopped playing it at shows to play with it and when I adjusted the levels up more and master down it seemed to do the trick. If the speaker crackling does'nt come back then this was a good buy.

                Comments about Ampeg BA600/115 1 x 15 Bass Combo:

What I like is the weight or lack of. Easy to get around. I have the 100 watt combo, the 220 watt combo and now the 600 watt. I love the 220 sound but the 600 gets the sound at a much lower volume and the weight is the point. BA 600 has a nice growl to it and sweet bottom as you expect from Ampeg. No problems at all! Plus you're only as good as the signal you're sending to the amp. My P Bass in combo with the BA 600. Can't touch me...

If you like the sound of the bass guitar then don't buy this. All you get with this is loud hum, distortion, crackling speaker and lots of cabinet rattle.

Have They Recalled This Thing Yet?

                Comments about Ampeg BA600/115 1 x 15 Bass Combo:

Unfortunately, Ampeg has sacrificed quality for cost and after two months my amp fried. I ignored the reviews and said, it's Ampeg, it can't be that bad. It wasn't the perfect amp, but it was alright. I was willing to deal with some of the quirks, but a thousand dollar amp shouldn't burn up after two months of sporadic use. (ie, once or twice a week for practice).
