Comments about Ampeg Micro-VR 200W Bass Amp Head:

i bought this Ampeg Micro as an inexpensive back up for my Carvin BX500. I picked up a factory restock here on MF for about 70% of regular price. I only planned to use it in the practice room and as a spare. I was so impressed that I took it out to a gig and gave it a try in a live setting. I play in a 5 piece R&R band and this little guy did great! I paired it with my Carvin BR210 2X10 cabinet and it had plenty enough horsepower to fill a 40X80 ft club with low end. I set the Gain on 6 and the Master on 4 and it was very loud. I have also been very impressed with the quality of the Line Out signal. Very impressive tone for studio work or to go to the board in a large hall. I expected to get a cheap back up amp but I actually got much more. I can't imagine getting much better for less than 3 bills. The 1/8th Aux input jack and headphone out are nice features for practicing along with your favorite tunes. Yes, the fan is a bit noisy like others have said but nothing that would be heard when playing through a cabinet or while wearing headphones. This little amp delivers!

Comments about Ampeg Micro-VR 200W Bass Amp Head:

THE Ampeg sound in a killer looking little package. It's bigger than some micro amps, but super lightweight for what it is, and you get the cool vibe in return. Perfect pairing with the micro av cab, it also sounds great through my Ampeg Classic 15. It's not as loud as other brands with similar wattage ratings, but it's plenty for my rehearsals and may even work for some gigs, especially when paired with two 2x10 AVs. I will most certainly use it as my main amp for recording. The headphone and aux in options are very useful for home practice, and the Micro VR sounds far better than other brand micro heads with headphone capabilities that I've tried. You actually get the amp tone in your headphones. The fan is a little loud for some people that are sensitive to that kind of thing, but it doesn't bother me.

    Ampeg Micro-VR 200 Bass Head

Comments about Ampeg Micro-VR 200W Bass Amp Head:

Basic features with great tone. The rear effects loop is great, and the 1/8" jack on the front for a MP3 player is handy. Lightweight , good looking head that mates great with SVT 210 AU cabinet. Plenty of punch for most small gigs, and it takes up a small amount of space at home where you can get that Ampeg sound without having a monster rig. I'm very happy with it and I think you will be too!
Has everything you really need, Bass mid and treble controls with gain and volume controls that work well. Nice and clean with the volume up with a nice bit of grit pushing the gain up. i really like most of the Ampeg combos. This is an excellent place to start with their separates.
No problems. Took it out of the box, plugged it in, cranked it up and it did its thing, VERY WELL!
I think its right where it should be. It sounds bigger than it is.

Get 2 SVT210AV?s if you buy one

Comments about Ampeg Micro-VR 200W Bass Amp Head:

First, let me just say that I REALLY love the tonal quality and sound that the Micro-VR Head & SVT210AV cabinet combine to put out. Second, for my application ? home studio recording ? it?s absolutely perfect in terms of the sound quality, portability, weight, and ease of use with its very basic features. And both seem well-made despite manufacturing in China. It?s a keeper! That said, gigging musicians may find the Spartan features lacking for their needs on stage. But, there?s an effects loop to insert whatever one might need to fill that gap. My biggest disappointment is with the stated power rating of 150W into 8&#91, 200W into 4&#91. The head plus one cabinet didn?t seem to put out more sound than my old standby Brit-made Marshall Bass Sate 30, rated at 30W. I got a second SVT210AV but I am not convinced that I?m really getting 200W. Fortunately, there is a post-EQ XLR out so the front-of-house engineer can run with your signal if the SVT210AV?s don?t deliver on the volume you need.

    Heavy Duty High Power

    By JBman

    from Central Jersey

Comments about Ampeg Micro-VR 200W Bass Amp Head:

This thing really does pump out a lot of power. It produces good round tone and doesn't clip and lose tone composure. Also, being a touring musician, I've seen it get thrown into trailers and I've accidentally knocked it off a full stack a couple times as it is so light, but it still works great. It could have better tonal range, in terms of EQ, but it can go pretty low all the way up to really trebly slap lines without breaking up.

    This head will surprise you

    By Anonymous

Comments about Ampeg Micro-VR 200W Bass Amp Head:

First I have to tell you that this was the last head I thought i would own but when I hooked this up to my TC electronic rs112 cab, I was shocked how incredible it sounded. The tone is right on and I mean right on. Very versatile EQ and the limiter works beautifully. If this amp doesn't have enough power for you in any setting than you are simply playing too loud. I had no problems with two guitarist and a drummer and I was not pushing this amp at all. Now the bad..The fan is very loud but not a factor when playing and it does keep this amp cool. No speakon connection and if the hard plastic legs would have been soft rubber that would have been a plus but thats it. Don't judge this amp using the cab it is designed for. That cab is very inefficient(no ports) and in my opinion not good at all for this head. Try it with a good ported cab and prepare to be blown away. Hope this review helps.

    not exactly as described

    By Boxey

Comments about Ampeg Micro-VR 200W Bass Amp Head:

I purchased the amp on the specs and brand reputation. There is no way this is 200 watts into 4 ohm load more like maybe 30 watts. Not much versatility and or tone, rather it has a thin weak sound. I found out later the company owns the name only and the product is made in a chinese factory. I have since returned this unit and found that this is fairly normal for recent Ampeg products.

    Size doesn't matter... what?

Comments about Ampeg Micro-VR 200W Bass Amp Head:

I was needing a better sounding amp so I started looking into different rigs and see what I wanted to build. I just happened to walk into guitar center and see this so I plugged in and started playing and loved the tone. I was curious so I plugged it into a Ampeg 8x10 and decided I needed to buy right then. I love the settings on it because I like a very simple control set up and the limiter is nice. I also really love the 2 speaker outs, fan, effects loop, and the XLR out. It's great because I can plug into any sound system without losing any tone, since I started using it at church I've gotten an outpouring of compliments. This has all the power I need for what I do and it's and its not heavy at all, I also enjoy the vintage look. My favorite part though is when I put it on top of a big cab and people are like "What the?..." and then they proceed to be amazed by the tone and power of it, I still am. I recommend this to anyone looking for a lightwheight powerful head that can handle most anything. Just remember, size doesn't matter... btw guitar sounds great through it too

    great for bedroom, small gigs

    By Gemini Cricket

    from Athens, Ga

Comments about Ampeg Micro-VR 200W Bass Amp Head:

Bought this after tiring of lugging around huge cabs and beastly heads. Plus, it looks great! Been gigging with it for over a year. Sounds best if you run it through an extension cab alongside the 2x10 cab. It gets a little farty at high volume but that's what the DI is for. Any venue that was too big for this amp had a solid PA to run it through so no worries if you're a small band. Crowds and other bands were always surprised at the big tone coming out of this little amp. Plus it packs up easily after shows. We managed to fit 3 people and all our gear in a Passat wagon. The build quality is pretty bad. Most of the tolex covering peeled off within two months. The head rattles on the cab and the fan is almost always on.
