Sounds great when it's working, just cant rely on it to work. I'll be calling ampeg tomorrow to get some answers and hopefully a replacement head that will not crap out on me again!
Plenty of control with the sound. Havent really used the effects loop or anything but i do appreciate having the direct out!
I have already had to exchange my first one in because of a fault, and just tonight i had the same issue on my new head! The head actually stopped sending any sort of signal out to the speaker or the direct out in the middle of my gig.
Good price for an ampeg product. However, when you are purchasing an ampeg priduct you expect classic ampeg quality.

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

Bought this amp as a practice "at home" rig so I wouldn't have to lump my gear back and forth. Found it on-sale and for half price so I thought I'd give it a try. Should have tested it in a store first. The AMP switches off many times on it's own. Has very limited functions and capabilities, power, and barely qualifies as an AMP in my book. I even went out and bought the 115 cab because since I already owned the 350 maybe the cab designed for it would help. No chance, this was a total waste of money and time. I don't know if the 500 is any better but AMPEG has now dropped to new lows for me and I would never buy another product from them.

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

I had an Acoustic 200 watt head and it was much more powerful than this Head.It also has better features than this Ampeg. It is not loud enough for even practice,it keeps clipping and shutting down.

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

Huge sound from such a compact bass amp. I run it through a Hartke 2X10 and a Hartke 1X15 stack (4 ohms). The tone is very warm and full. I also use a digitech bass squeeze dual band compressor. It can shake the floor and/or be clear as a bell. I can play my Fender Jazz bass or my Martin acoustic bass through it and achieve great tones from either instrument. The lead guitarist in my band really appreciates the clarity as well as the low end that this amp (and system) puts out.

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

As I get older, I am less and less inclined to drag around heavy heads. It is bad enough, though unavoidable, that I have to move the cabs, but some heads weigh almost as much as a small cab! I have taken to building my own cabs from subwoofer boxes so I can split the weight rather than having one very heavy cab with, say, 4 speakers in it. At any rate, I wanted a head that had enough power to gig with, but was light weight. This little Ampeg does the job. Normally I use a 450-watt Peavey for gigs, but in the past I bought a 180 watt Behringer to try to use a lighter head. Well, it was just not quite up to the job. This Ampeg has the power, but is very light weight at the same time. I also have a little 200-watt GK that is sweet for small venues, but is so light at 2 pounds that it can be easily pulled off the cab and onto the floor. So, unless you Velcro it to the cab it is at risk. The Ampeg is just heavy enough to sit up there solidly and still be easy to carry. It does not have all the bells and whistles of some amps; the tone shaping is a three-band EQ, period. That is of no consequence to me, as I use a separate preamp/effects box, and I think most bassists either can find the tone they want with the EQ on the amp or have stomp boxes that they use anyway. I personally set the Peavey flat anyway. Still, if you are looking for ultrabass octaving or other fancy stuff, you will have to add those effects externally. The sound is pure Ampeg, with the characteristic solid, warm sound we all know and love. The best part is that I got a rebuilt one at a fantastic price. To get a real Ampeg with all that power and portability for the price I did is an absolute no-brainer. I will tell you that the guarantee is a no-fault 90 days, so you may wish to consider buying MF's extended warranty if you have any concerns.

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

I'm in agreement with the reviews all over the web and think this is a great sounding little amp but I was really disappointed in the percieved volume output of this thing. In that respect it is very close to my G&K Micro 200 head and nowhere near my (very heavy) Hartke 3500 head. Everything else being equal I would have to have the PF350 cranked for rehearsals and gigs just to get equal to the Hartke crusing along. I don't want an amp I have to push on an everyday basis and I need more power in reserve so back the PF 350 goes.

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

Hard to beat this amp. Very portable, seems well built, ridiculously light weight and small. No frills- Volume, tones, gain, headphone out (note- does not bypass speaker, you have to unplug), aux in. 2 Speaker outputs. My only complaint is it uses a fan for cooling- not really loud, but can be heard in a quiet room, so probably not best for studio recording. For any live gig no issue.

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

Once upon a time, bass amps were relatively straightforward. Then, as technology and musical styles/tastes changed, so did the bass amps. Problem is (based on my asking lots of questions to the point of all but driving salespeople crazy), it turns out, that many bass players DON'T need/want/use (properly) the bells and whistles that too many bass amps nowadays have. Enter the AMPEG PF-350 head. Make no mistake; this amp is as close to "no frills" as there is, and for the money, you won't likely get much better. While I've only used it on a couple of gigs (so far), it performs like a champ. I've paired it with AMPEG's newer PF-115LF cab (ported, with a 15" Eminence driver; no tweeter). While you only get 250w@8 ohms (with ONE cab), the result is still a quite satisfying "old school" sound & feel (if that's what you like), because more air is being pushed, due to two rectangular ports on the lower back of the cab. Need EQ? Get a pedal device. Otherwise, be prepared to "fill your ears with happy!" Now, it's only because I've only had it for a short time, and Ampeg's (reputedly) "iffy" reliability, that I only gave it four stars. But, it replaced a Gallien-Kruger MB-115 amp, which while wasn't exactly a "stiff," over time, it did become problematic (despite a two-year warranty, which I had to take advantage of, due to of all things. a blown fuse, which was inaccessible, except to a service tech). I have had other Ampeg's in the past, and loved them all. I'm expecting good things from this one, too. If this amp is as good down the 'pike, as it is now, expect FIVE stars.

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

There are a thousand things I say about this little gem, but I'll stick with WOW. I know Ampeg always delivers a quality product, but I never expected this. I bought this for a back-up; small venue; practice rig but I no sooner unpacked it when it was called into service. My band had to do an impromptu show for a fund raiser - and we had to supply the PA - needless to say, space was at a premium in my truck - so Ampeg PF-350 to the rescue. It's compact size belies the monster that lies within!! I had hoped to run it through a 4-ohm cab to maximize its power, but I didn't have one available. I ran it through a GK-115 @ 8-ohms and IT ROCKED HARD!! Both guitarists and the drummer said they had plenty of bass on stage all night! (we play metal and use a lot of stage volume). I still plan to run this through a 4-ohm cab, but for no bigger than it is, as simple as it is - the tone, the output and the portability make the Ampeg Porta-Flex PF-350 a big winner. It has easily supplanted my Line 6 Low Down HD-750 as my main gig rig.
