Sounds great when it's working, just cant rely on it to work. I'll be calling ampeg tomorrow to get some answers and hopefully a replacement head that will not crap out on me again!
Plenty of control with the sound. Havent really used the effects loop or anything but i do appreciate having the direct out!
I have already had to exchange my first one in because of a fault, and just tonight i had the same issue on my new head! The head actually stopped sending any sort of signal out to the speaker or the direct out in the middle of my gig.
Good price for an ampeg product. However, when you are purchasing an ampeg priduct you expect classic ampeg quality.

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

Once upon a time, bass amps were relatively straightforward. Then, as technology and musical styles/tastes changed, so did the bass amps. Problem is (based on my asking lots of questions to the point of all but driving salespeople crazy), it turns out, that many bass players DON'T need/want/use (properly) the bells and whistles that too many bass amps nowadays have. Enter the AMPEG PF-350 head. Make no mistake; this amp is as close to "no frills" as there is, and for the money, you won't likely get much better. While I've only used it on a couple of gigs (so far), it performs like a champ. I've paired it with AMPEG's newer PF-115LF cab (ported, with a 15" Eminence driver; no tweeter). While you only get 250w@8 ohms (with ONE cab), the result is still a quite satisfying "old school" sound & feel (if that's what you like), because more air is being pushed, due to two rectangular ports on the lower back of the cab. Need EQ? Get a pedal device. Otherwise, be prepared to "fill your ears with happy!" Now, it's only because I've only had it for a short time, and Ampeg's (reputedly) "iffy" reliability, that I only gave it four stars. But, it replaced a Gallien-Kruger MB-115 amp, which while wasn't exactly a "stiff," over time, it did become problematic (despite a two-year warranty, which I had to take advantage of, due to of all things. a blown fuse, which was inaccessible, except to a service tech). I have had other Ampeg's in the past, and loved them all. I'm expecting good things from this one, too. If this amp is as good down the 'pike, as it is now, expect FIVE stars.

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

I want to last years for my 410 HLF SVT classic cab and Jazzbass
I give it a 9 because a compressor or graphic EQ would ve been a plus but it has a great bass mid and decent treble. It sounds a punchy bass I use with Ampeg 410 HLF SVT Classic it sounds BIG.
Small Compact but its strong you can feel its weight that means good parts Black and when turn on a little tube lights up in Blue over The Ampeg name cool I wish it was rack montable but I bought A Gator gig bag for it . When gigging it looks killer on top of my 410 HLF SVT Classic on stage an all Ampeg Rig.
I bought on sale discount from Mus F. you cant beat ther discount prices are incredible.

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

Getting that big fat P-Bass tone has become a lost art over the years. When I saw this new ampeg I said Oh no, not another super clean, super flat and super dull class-D technology. Well, I was wrong. This little guy growls like a cat !!! You can't have a better amp for the money. It sounds like a tube amp with a tight and punchy response. I think the PF-350 is already a milestone in solid state amplification.

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

I mostly use this head to power my electric guitar rig - a 2x12 Fender cab from 1965 with an assortment of old Yamaha multi-effects processors in the sidechain. I play a moded Tele thinline, and it sounds amazing. I use a lot of reverb, so this amp is perfect for me because it's so clean that I can load up the effects and still have a recognizable tone happening. If you're looking for a head that can handle a serious amount of digital effects, this is the one, especially for more moderate-volume use in the studio.
The FX loop is really useful, but I wish it had a stereo return. Other than that, it's a pretty standard control setup.
It's built like a tank with really heavy metal, so no worries there; should hold up in any giging situation, as all my other Ampeg gear has done. I'm only using it for small gigs occasionally, mostly in the studio to get that super-clean solid state sound. For that it's perfect, no semblence of tube warmth whatsoever, no tone coloring - what you put in is what you get out, just louder.
I've tried many similar products in this price range. Nothing really compares in the price range

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

As I get older, I am less and less inclined to drag around heavy heads. It is bad enough, though unavoidable, that I have to move the cabs, but some heads weigh almost as much as a small cab! I have taken to building my own cabs from subwoofer boxes so I can split the weight rather than having one very heavy cab with, say, 4 speakers in it. At any rate, I wanted a head that had enough power to gig with, but was light weight. This little Ampeg does the job. Normally I use a 450-watt Peavey for gigs, but in the past I bought a 180 watt Behringer to try to use a lighter head. Well, it was just not quite up to the job. This Ampeg has the power, but is very light weight at the same time. I also have a little 200-watt GK that is sweet for small venues, but is so light at 2 pounds that it can be easily pulled off the cab and onto the floor. So, unless you Velcro it to the cab it is at risk. The Ampeg is just heavy enough to sit up there solidly and still be easy to carry. It does not have all the bells and whistles of some amps; the tone shaping is a three-band EQ, period. That is of no consequence to me, as I use a separate preamp/effects box, and I think most bassists either can find the tone they want with the EQ on the amp or have stomp boxes that they use anyway. I personally set the Peavey flat anyway. Still, if you are looking for ultrabass octaving or other fancy stuff, you will have to add those effects externally. The sound is pure Ampeg, with the characteristic solid, warm sound we all know and love. The best part is that I got a rebuilt one at a fantastic price. To get a real Ampeg with all that power and portability for the price I did is an absolute no-brainer. I will tell you that the guarantee is a no-fault 90 days, so you may wish to consider buying MF's extended warranty if you have any concerns.

    Great bass amp!

    By Rick Asherson

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

I wanted a bass amp for live performance for keyboard bass (for when our bass player wasn't available). I first got GK MB200 which looked so nicely portable and light . . . which it was! Very portable = seemed very fragile, light in weight = light in sound. This baby is much more substantial in every respect. Good solid construction, plenty of power and plenty of bass - what more could you ask for. Keyboard bass - at least for me - is quite basic and doesn't require bells and whistles in the sound, just a solid presence, which this amp more than supplies.

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

    See above
I like the portability (it's a portaflex isn't it?). I like the power it has as compared to the Genz-Benz it replaced. I like how it showed up at my house within 48 hours of my order. It has all of the combinations of outlets necessart for me to do my work. But, what I REALLY like is that Ampeg sound! I don't care if comes our of tubes or transistors or some one's old socks, I am knocked out by that punchy but low Jamersonesque-motownish sound. Mixed with my beloved Jazz and strung with chrome flat wounds it IS the sound that I've sought from the begining. The band mates like the mix and it mates perfectly with my speaker/cabinate set up. I give it a '9' only because I've only had it a few weeks, I'll let you know later about the longevity and quality aspect of my purchace, but for know I'm one happy bass player!
SO far so good, Im going on reputation for now.
I'm convinced this is a great value (crosses fingers)

Comments about Ampeg PF-350 Portaflex 350W Bass Amp Head:

I'm in agreement with the reviews all over the web and think this is a great sounding little amp but I was really disappointed in the percieved volume output of this thing. In that respect it is very close to my G&K Micro 200 head and nowhere near my (very heavy) Hartke 3500 head. Everything else being equal I would have to have the PF350 cranked for rehearsals and gigs just to get equal to the Hartke crusing along. I don't want an amp I have to push on an everyday basis and I need more power in reserve so back the PF 350 goes.
