I have owned the SVT 18 now for about a year, and I can say it is great! I am playing through a Peavey Max 700 head and use the SVT 18 along with an old Eastern Acousitcs 15" speaker cab loaded with a Black Widow driver. The combination of the 15 with the SVT 18 is awesome. If you are a 5 string player, you gotta get this. The B string feels so good. It is smooth and delivers what bass is all about--low end. This is a quality cabinet. There is something about the large speaker verses the multiple tens that I like. I seem to feel the low end more which positively affects the way I play. Get it! You'll love it!
I run two svt-18"inch cabs through the 1600 watt svt-4-pro head and let me tell you all, what a low end MONSTER!!!great mid and highs without bi-amping! tens are for ****!!!!
I run the SVT 18 in parallel with my svt 410he cab off of my Peavey firebass 700 head. I lacked low end punch on my low B and the Svt 18 definitely delivered what I was looking for.
This thing is awesome. The sound is the best I've heard in a bass enclosure. I thought it would be very boomy, but it's not. Just seductivly thick and low. You wont be able to bottom it out. I run it with a SVT410 and both combined is awesome. If I only bring one speaker to a gig, I bring the 18. I also run through the mains and they pick up anything the 18 doesn't. Never thought I'd like it, but I'm convinced. It's actually easy to move around. It's smaller and lighter than the 410 and fits easily in my trunk. The wheels and handles are top notch. I looked at a LOT of cabs over the last year and most of them just don't have the huevos where you need it. this does. Get one and you'll never go back.
Have owned many Ampeg produts over the years, started playing bass 4 years ago and have been on a quest for the perfect sound since I started. Own a V4 tube head, SVT 3 head, a classic 15' cabibet, a 2-10's classic cabinet, and finally goe a 4-10's classic cabinet in my search for the sound. Never quite there.........tried the SVT PRO 6..same sound as the 3 but louder. my dealer suggested the SVT 18 cabinet---------that was it! I'm running it with either of my amps and th 2-10' and it gives me the "THUNDER THUMB" I've been looking for, and it even weighs less than the 4-10's. At my age, every little bit helps!
I bought this cabinet about a year ago and have never regretted it. Provides all the low end your amp could ever give. The only complaint I've ever recieved was that the bass was too powerful.
I loved it but I usually play a 4 string so I'm staying with an svt 8x10.
Ampeg makes great bass amps. This is no exception. This is PHAT sounding!!! But not "boomy". The only way I could improve upon this design is to locate the loop jacks in the front, not the back.
Ampeg makes a quality product regardless. I use this cabinet along side 4 10" speakers and it sounds great.
