Overall, I recommend this to anyone who is serious about playing professionally or playing the club circuit. It's everything a bassist could want or need minus a few features that can be had with foot pedals (i.e. tuner and graphic eq). Prior to owning the 7 pro, I used a 4 pro and while I enjoyed the tone and features, it was simply too heavy and cumbersome for weekend gigs. The 7 pro was the best solution and I think Class D amplifiers are an awesome solution for guys like me that want power, but don't have roadies to set up and tear down.
To me, this is one of the best bass heads for under 1000 and THE best class D amplifier for gigging bassists. I get the best of both worlds with this head: ampeg tone and punch without having to break my back to lift it onto a cab. All the features I need are on this head to include a built-in compressor, DI out, and plenty of tonal control to suit whatever playing situation. I mostly play in pop/rock environment and I can swap smooth and fat for fingerstyle, gritty and slightly overdriven for pick playing, and snappy with slight compression for slap. In short, it can do it all.
For something so light, the build is very solid. I would never want to drop this head, but I feel like it could survive a small tumble or accidental slip. I place it in a rack with a korg rackmount tuner and furman power conditioner and it's still less weight than an SVT 4 pro by itself. The single tube provides enough warmth to get the ampeg tone I love and while an all tube svt classic will have more in terms of warm tone, the 7 pro is half the price and less than one quarter of the weight.
I still say this is a great deal.

IF LOUD technologies was out of the picture, this AMPEG probably wouldn't be that bad. Great design and sound (when works). But unit is poorly assembled, and warranty service requests (to LOUD) from the local authorized AMPEG repair shop take months. I'm not kidding. There's another AMPEG SVT-7 pro in for the SAME repair at ALM in Norfolk, VA, and they've been waiting for response/parts from LOUD since October (!). It's a 5 year warranty because that's the average time it takes them (LOUD) to close a trouble ticket and get the store the parts to fix your amp. I've already had to use a loaner amp from our rhythm guitarist for one gig, this will be the LAST Ampeg I ever buy. Real shame, considering this isn't a bad Bass Head for the price. And for goodness sake DON'T buy a re-stock.... I'm now convinced that my Series C head was a broken head that another buyer sent back to MF and/or Ampeg, and they didn't bother to fix the real issue and sold it to me. Go with a Hartke or Genz Benz.

Comments about Ampeg SVT7PRO 1000W Class D Bass Amp Head:
I have always loved the Ampeg sound. I have, over the years drifted from Ampeg to other brands of amps but always wanted another Ampeg. I am very disappointed with this amplifier the workmanship is sub par and I'm afraid it has soured me from buying another Ampeg amp. The amp would randomly cut out, which is unacceptable for a working musician. Sad. By the way, this is the second consecutive amp I have sent back.

Comments about Ampeg SVT7PRO 1000W Class D Bass Amp Head:
I'm not sure about all the reliability issues that have been reported, I played it through the 610 cabinet and it is sweet. Not really had a chance to push the power though. I really wonder what a Class D can do compared to the massive toroid in classic analog SS Class AB amps but it should be fine. I used to have an all tube SVT classic. That was too heavy. One tip... Buy the one off the show room floor. It probably has been broken in and gone past the problems. This is a comment for all Ampeg (also for cabinets).
If you are looking for power at a price and weight class that is unbelievable, this is you unit.
That said.. I'm trading for SVT6 Pro because I used to have one and rue the day I sold it. I just want the tone controls back... However... There is nothing wrong with the flat tone on this unit. I mean it... Sound great...
One must understand.. There are bass players that are simply tuned to Ampeg and nothing else will do. Save yourself some money... I've been around and back... If you like Ampeg, nothing else will do... CJK

Comments about Ampeg SVT7PRO 1000W Class D Bass Amp Head:
Bought this amp new from here about a year ago. Thankfully bought the extended warranty as well. I got through one show (ONE) with no issues, and at every other situation since the amp continually cuts out. It is NOT a power, heat, volume, stress issue. Its a poor production issue. MF ended up paying off the entire purchase price which i put toward an Orange TT 1000. which sounds great and is more portable. Miss the rackmountability of the ampeg, but it is just too unreliable to trust for any gig of importance. Read the forums out there, this is a known quality issue with ampeg.

Do your research before buying. There is tons of data documenting the problems with the SVT 7. Not just Rev A, but all. I took a chance and am so sorry. I read about many of the issues and thought with a Rev C I'd be ok but, couldn't get through one show. It cuts out constantly due to an oversensitive limiter. It's a common problem and Ampeg doesn't have a fix. This sound is great but, don't even think about this amp unless you don't mind not being heard.
Stick with a proven Ampeg model or look elsewhere.

Comments about Ampeg SVT7PRO 1000W Class D Bass Amp Head:
Got a restock b0 rev, most probably with the c0 upgrade since it went back to Ampeg and all the way to the top of my cab with no issue and mint condition. Believe me this is a Black Magic Box. All features you may need are there. Tons of Power. Best punchy tone from an hybrid amp in my opinion. Built in compressor, great Mid frequencies tweaking possibilities, blendable fx loop... Wont need it anyways since I stowed all my pedals and effects. Just need to plug your bass straight in this thing of beauty(unless an highly modified signal is your thing). Buy this in a heartbeat, best bang for the buck period, especially with restocks...
Comments about Ampeg SVT7PRO 1000W Class D Bass Amp Head:
I feel you cant go wrong with this amp. I was worried about problems others have reported but this was a revision C00 and seems problem free. The restock unit I got is the best amp deal Ive had so far and worth every penny.
This is a great amp with beautiful tone. Sounds very similar to my old svt classic. I didnt expect it to sound as tube like as it did. I run it through an SWR Golliath IV 8ohm and it has more power than i will ever use even at 8 ohms. It has all the typical Ampeg controls and all the features i need without etra crap I dont need.
I got the restock unit. I was expecting it to look used or a little worn but it came packaged like a new one and in perfect shape. It could fool me that it isnt a new one. Have used it for a few band practices so far and it has performed flawlessly.
I think it is a good deal. I was using an ampeg pf500 before this which is the best deal out there and it also worked flawlessly. As much as i liked the pf500 this has a warmer sound and feels very dynamic and touch sensative like an all tube amp. The power is also incredable.
Comments about Ampeg SVT7PRO 1000W Class D Bass Amp Head:
Really surprised by how much I like this amp! It sits in the loud band mix very nicely. It produces that Ampeg "boing" at any volume I need. Plenty of power. I would like to get a little more gain than it provides, but a good pedal covers that. Overall, a great amp.
Everything I need, I then some.
Mine is a restocked revision B01, and it seems to work perfectly. Inside, it looks as good or better than any other modern Class D amps. We'll see how she holds up over time.
A terrific boom for the buck.
Comments about Ampeg SVT7PRO 1000W Class D Bass Amp Head:
This unit was seriously defective. Due to the overwhelming burnt smell, it contained parts that could not have passed through a competent Q/A inspector.
If this is the best Ampeg can do, I will never endorse their products. As I said before this head is pure garbage!
The folks at Ampeg need to pull the SVT 7 Pro off the shelves until they can get it right.
The Ampeg rep that I talked to was very helpful and knowledgeable but she stated that other Ampeg heads have more head room with cleaner, fatter, tone, that this head was in fact not very loud at all.
The compressor function did not work. Limiter light illuminated at about 2 out of 10 of the volume control.
It is lightweight, it's only quality.
The unit smelled like it was electrically burnt. When I plugged it in I could not dial in a useful tone without distortion. It had absolutely no head room for volume and it would clip out at 4. Garbage!!!!!!
No value to this unit at all. They couldn't give it away.
Comments about Ampeg SVT7PRO 1000W Class D Bass Amp Head:
So far I'm loving this amp! I found my tone in seconds, and it's held up through a practice and a few gigs really well so far.
The controls are not complicated, so it's easy to get the right tone quickly.
So far I have only seen one quality issue: The ground lift button sticks on occasion. Other than that, I've had no other problems.
It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
