I bought this pedal as an experiment with high expectations, and they were pretty well fulfilled. This thing does everything it claims to with my bass, and it sounds like a monster coming through my Behringer Ultrabass combo amp. Definitely THE tool for keeping sustained volume while preserving if not enhancing the attack on every one of your notes. Now, you CAN get some highly audible hiss out of this unit if you start turning the high and drive knobs up toward their limits, but if you ease up on them just a little, or either one by about half, you get a much more ear-friendly consistency. Or if you throw even the most basic noise gate after this guy in your chain the attack and volume of a good slap will mitigate via brute force alone any of that noise pretty effectively. This pedal really shines when you start adding slides and some pull offs to your heavier slaps, though. I'd been formulating a piece for over a month, wishing I had a compressor that could really bring out the finer details without killing the aggro-factor of the music, and the Slap Bass achieves this spectacularly. If you're looking for anything like what I'm talking about and you can come close to affording it, buy this pedal and you won't be sorry.
I use this pedal for my worship team at church. This pedal really helps on songs for "fatting up" my bass and giving great tone for slapping. I use this pedal along with an Alesis 3630 compressor, Sansamp Bass Driver, and a Digitech bass compressor, all work well together and pedal is very quiet as long as you don't use the drive dial too much. Also, this pedal works great with the visual sound 1 SPOT POWERSUPPLY.
I've got this pedal as a present, mine is made in Russia. I thought it was a cheapo pedal with shoddy amp emulation. So it was laying around for 2 years. Today I've decided to try it out, just for kicks. I couldn't believe what I heard. Amazing, easy to use compressor and drive pedal in one box! And you really can D.I. it, the tone is sweet. I've been playing for 10 years, done a lot of recordings, but I always liked the clean tone of customized Yamaha BB 5 string bass. But this pedal is great.
