This takes my Gibson P94's to a whole new level! Omar said i! I don't want to turn it off! It brings out and balances all 6 strings without overpowering my Roland AC-60 6-1/4" speakers. And, it is not particular about its power supply - so much more versatile than most battery/external source pedals. All I had to do was find a matching plug in my bag of unused transformers and turn it on. It is well built, hardy, and allows me to bring up a wide range of frequencies without killing the rest of my sound. Picked it up via a Stupid Deal of the Day. So, I got it for a great price - thank you, Musicians Friend!

Xciter pedal very disappointing
No difference between effects pedal and just having my Marshall AV-100 on overdrive. Thought I was getting more effects.
I have returned it

Comments about Aphex Xciter Aural Exciter and Optical Big Bottom Effects Pedal:
I play a super shallow body Ovation, so I've been in the market for something that would add a little bit of oomph in the low end. I've thought about buying a new guitar, but my amount of funds was not commensurate to my level of excitement about buying a new guitar. I check the "Stupid Deal of the Day" everyday to see if I can get something good on sale. Lo and behold, the Aphex Xciter was on sale a few weeks ago at 50% off. I couldn't pass up the possibilities. The Aphex Xciter was the solution for my problem. The low end boost that I got was a game changer. I can wait and save up for a new guitar, but now I'm not in a hurry.

Comments about Aphex Xciter Aural Exciter and Optical Big Bottom Effects Pedal:
This review is for use with electric guitar. I have not tried the pedal with acoustic or bass yet.
I bought this along with a BBE Sonic Stomp and an MXR 6-band Graphic EQ pedal and put everything in the effects loop to see if I could benefit from the tone shaping at all. That may seem like a little overkill/over processing (does to me, especially with a really good amp - which I play through), but what I was looking for I got. I use and love EMG pickups, but I must say they lack a little in the low-mid meat and top end sparkle "bite", which passive pickups have naturally. The Xciter really helped to bring some sizzle to the top end without having to crank the amp's treble or presence. I don't like over cranking any one tone element, so the Xciter really allows me to get the bite and top end crunch I'm looking for with the boost only at about 9 o'clock, and roll the treble and presence back down on the amp to flatter levels. The Big Bottom section also adds a lot of fullness back to the lower register. As I said, I personally feel active pickups focus a lot on the upper mids, so the Big Bottom, the 200 & 400 bands on the graphic EQ and a little Lo Contour from the BBE really fill out the low/low-mid frequencies. Now I feel I have the depth and weight and sparkle of passive pickups, but with the punch, drive/power, clarity and definition of active pickups - a true best of both worlds.
It does feel like there's a lot of processing going on, much more than I prefer, but I'm going to say the ends justify the means in this case. Everything sounds pretty amazing and it definitely wouldn't be what it is without the Xciter.

Comments about Aphex Xciter Aural Exciter and Optical Big Bottom Effects Pedal:
I was looking for something that i could afford that would give me better tone for my acoustic through a small amp or a small Bose unit that i use and this works. The sound is more transparent and you have control over how much bass or treble. After using this product, i can't imagine playing without it. You enjoy playing longer with sparkle it puts in your sound. Other great musicians have used this device earlier on their recordings and now i know why.

Comments about Aphex Xciter Aural Exciter and Optical Big Bottom Effects Pedal:
This does exactly what it says - the bottom and the highs jump out and really clean up without increasing the overall sounds levels. Watch the video abotu how to use it - turn the highs off, dial in the bottom, then turn off the bottom and dial in the highs, then bring them both up. It makes my les paul go from good to great sounding.

Comments about Aphex Xciter Aural Exciter and Optical Big Bottom Effects Pedal:
Very nice device! Really seems to "open up" the bass and (especially) electric guitar. Us bass players don't really use a ton of effects generally, and this guy provides low-end punch and some volume without compromising the amplifier. It may be subtle, but the difference in tone is worth it. For recording, it seems especially good when used with electric guitar. Noticeable difference there! I would recommend this piece, yep.
