Review: I found the sound quality of this pedal was a bit too noisy for my liking. There is a very audible hiss if the pedal is switched on before playing through it (solution: put in a noise gate), and the compressed tone is not sustained enough for my preference -there is an accented "picking" sound with each pick stroke (as if it was a limiter instead of a compressor)rather than a smooth, creamy tone that other compressors give. The tone was a bit wanting as well, being either too muffled and bassy, or too hollow and thin. The body is plastic, durable for light use, but go easy if you plan to make this your number one comp. Overall, it is not bad, and when blended with other effects, the sound is decent, but not great. A good deal for the price, good as a backup, but I would look for something a bit more quality if this were my only compressor.

I'll start by saying that I use a compressor for a very specific purpose. A good one can help copy the sound of a steel guitar, which I find helpful, but this one is a no-go. I have other Arion products that work ok (best bragain so far has been the stage tuner), but this is useless to me.The biggest problem is the attack... it's terrible, in my opinion. If you're looking for a different, freaky sound you'll get it, but if you want something to enhance a natural sound, forget it. This thing is anything but natural sounding. It does add sustain and can be used as a gain boost or cut, but the tone adjustment doesn't seem to have a useful position for my taste. Again, my biggest complaint is the attack. I can not find a setting that doesn't destroy my sound. It may be good for metal with lots of distortion, but I can't get a clean sound out of it.The only good news... I can use it to mute my signal when tuning on-stage. But don't buy one, I'll trade mine for a set of strings or a handful of picks.

Great GUITAR Compressor

I have loads of compressors - I even make my own version of the Orange Sqeezer - but I still use thing sometimes. It's got loads of character. I love it. IMHO this is actually better than a stock CS-3 b/c it is NOT prohibitively dark. With all knobs on 12:00 the effect is too extreme for me. Be aware that not all knobs give you more of the effect turning clockwise. I set the overall level to match the bypassed level. I started buying Arion pedals when I was a kid b/c I had no money, and I very gradually caught on that they are very decent pedals. I don't like the way they do bypass, but I leave a compressor on all the time, anyway.

Next best thing to the BOSS pedal

I must say that this little box can do the job. It is a bit weak for sustain, but it works fine. If you are looking for a high quality compressor/sustainer, the go with BOSS. It cost much more but it is definatly for the working musician. This pedal gets me by, but I will eventualy get the BOSS compressor/sustainer pedal. I recommed this pedal for hobbyist.

awesome.......

This pedal is great for enhancing your clean guitar sounds. I'm sure it would be even better if I knew what all the settings were, but i like what it's at right now. I use this a lot with my synth wah distortion. It can make your distortion sounda lot crunchier. It makes no noise whatsoever as far as i'm concerned. I think this pedal is better for compressing than sustaining, though. Probably the only advantage of saving up for the Boss one.

A bit noisy but good sustain

Tested with Fender Strat and Marshall AVT150H/1960A amp/cab. Needed a pedal for sustain, and it does the job. Can hear hiss when engaged but not playing, that disappears when playing. Tone control is nice feature. Hard to get short enough attack not to get accented pick sound. Great deal for occasional use, but would get higher end comp if going to use all the time.

You really DO need to be careful

Try this pedal out before you even think about buying it. These guys who are sayin that it's the next best thing to a BOSS pedal, man. You're probably better off with the DOD Pastuerizer compressor. And when you say that you get what you paid for, which isn't much, is true. You really don't get much out of this pedal. Yeah, it boosts your distortion a bit, at least through my DIGITECH Grunge pedal it did, but seriously, you're probably better off with the DOD compressor.

disapointment

save your money. I also own an arion tubeulator which I love so I thought I would try this as I need a compressor for the organ in my band. Very noisy, so noisy that it is useless. The white noise when you turn on the effect is louder than the signal you are playing through it. The controls don't seem to have much effect, the 2nd output is a lot quieter, but the tone doesn't seem to work in that section. Overall bad news.

Crunchy

By Thornman

from El Paso, TX

I have a Marshall JCM 2000 TSL, and I was wondering if adding compression would change my sound in a good way. So, I bought this pedal and damn!! It makes my Marshall sound like the Master of Puppetts Distortion, (which I think is the best distortion ever). If you have an amp and you want it to sound heavier, crunchier, and just better, buy it.

booo

Piece of junk. I have been very happy with my Arion delay, octave, and flanger, but this one disappointed me. I would like to think that they all don't sound as bad as mine did. Terrible noise return, hardly any compression actually noticeable on my sound, although it was hard to tell over the noise. Luckily, MF happily accepted my return and I got my few $ back. Don't waste time with this. Play before you buy one of these, or just buy a good one.

be careful with this pedal!

i got this for christmas, cause i thought for 20 bucks you cant lose much. I didnt lose much, but i didnt gain much either. it DOES boost your distortion a little, but its VERY NOISY! its got a really bad hiss whenever its turned on, even through a clean amp. it also seemed to muffle the sound when i played hard, like a limiter, but i dont know how to fix that. i just turned the sustain all the way down and the attack all the way up, and it boosts my distortion. just dont expect a boss pedal.

awsome!

I just recently bought this item and its been working great! so far, and this compressor really makes your plucking stand out so if you use this with some distortion(I use the ARION MSDS-1 Distortion pedal)you can match the distortion almost perfectly with Metallicas Master of Puppets distortion. It takes awhile to figure out the settings but when you have them...its great! BUY this pedal everyone.
