This is a decent amp head. It is exactly what they advertize. You can dial in just about any sound you want, and if you know what your doing you can get plenty of volume. I compete with two 300W Tube Amps from my Guitards, plus a drummer thats super busy and hard, and I hold my own with an Ashdown 210 Cab and 115 Cab. If I upgraded to a 410 cab, I would be super cutting over the rest of the band. Effects loop is a little useless (Because the EQ is wired Pre- thats why you hear all the whinning about this amp not being loud), but it gives a nice texture when you come close to clipping, and you can get so many different sounds from just pushing a few buttons (Hey Ashdown - a Pedal would have been nice). For this pricepoint, your main alternatives, a GK 600, an Ampeg B2R, or Fender Bassman 450, this is a much better option, so long as you are OK with tweeking for several weeks, and you are OK with reading up on how amps work.

I have had this head for about 3 years. This head has great tone, just no power. It seems no matter how I adjust the input, it still goes into the red on the input meter. If you adjust everything so you don't clip on the meter, you loose almost all of your volume. Another strange this about the head is that adjusting the EQ,high boost, low boost, and sub harmonics effects the input on the amp, thus causes the input meter to go into the red. So now you have to adjust the input so you aren't clipping, and you have lost all the "boosts" that adjusting the EQ,high & low boost, & the sub boost have given you. So for me it's impossible to get enough power out of this to compete with a drummer. I figure I might be pulling 125 watts at 8 ohms, when I should be getting about 275 watts at 8 ohms. Bassically any adjustments you make on this head will cause the input meter to go into the red, so you have to turn it way back to avoid clipping, thus you loose any volume you have gained by making adjustment to the EQ, or boosts. Great tone, sounds great, it's just hard to get any power out of this head.

Good and cristal sound but...

By Wilfredo Vazquez-hGp4N

from Puerto Rico

I recenlty bought this head because I want to have all my stack with Ashdowns equipment. I really love this head. Is easy to use and the compresor(in the new version that is the one I have) help you to find good sounds. The only thing I don't like(like some guys here said)is that I'm not sure that this head delivers a full 575 watts a 4 ohm or even the half at 8 ohm. I don't have problems with this becuase my cabs only handles 250 watts to 8 ohm so is better in my case but I fell that I have to crank too much the output to really have good volume. The good fact is that the head not have any distorcion(thanks God) but you will have to cranks too much. Other than that, is an exellent head. Better sound and more easy to use than my last three heads (an Ampeg B2R, an Swr 550x and a Genz Benz shuttle 3.0). By the way,,Ashdown customer service are great!!!

Best head I've played through

By SDB of MWB

from TX

I have played through about twenty heads over the years. This one is by far the best. It has enough power, great tone, and is well built. It reminds me of those Mark Series heads that Peavey built in the 80's. I have played about 150 gigs with it and it sounds as good as ever. I gave it a 4.5 for features because it could have a little more power. My backup, a Hartke 3500, is much louder but does not have the "clear" tone this one has. The lack of power has not been an issue yet. I don't think it ever will be. If is is, you can always DI it out. The tone stays true, even when cranked. It's just a great head. Though, I do not feel you get a full 600 watts.

Asndown mag 600

By oldies bass

from Chicago

E.Q. section is great, should be able to get the tone you want. Musician's Friend sent me the new model with the compressor. Nice surprise. To operate the sub harmonic control, make sure you have a strong signal [get the needel in the input gauge moving], otherwise the octave wont work. Not so sure about the 575 watt rating, not as loud as other amps I've had with 500 and less watts. Over all a great amp.

AWESOME!!

By BassHeadbang12

The MAG 600H is amazing, it gives me the deep growling sound that makes your insides thud. I could not ask for anything more, I run this beast through a Kustom 4x10 DP cab and my house shakes.Just a overall great head

OMG

OMG!! I am soooo happy with this head together with the mag 410t deep it sounds soo good. The power I get out of it is big.. and the low growl is b-e-ayyy- utiful.I don't need many features to sound good, I don't want to fiddle around for hours trying to find a decent tone especially for slapping, theres the bright feature there already. We are good to go.highly recomended!

In Charge!

By Stratusphere Bass

from No Answer

This amp will make you the boss. It's got enough highs and enough lows to give you that authoritative bass sound. The input and output controls let you max out the volume of your tone to the highest possible safe level. I put this on top of a Kustom 15" and a GK 4x10", ran it through an MXR D.I. and just rocked. You DEFINITELY should rack it though... it will overheat if left flush to the surface.

Great bass head for the reasonable price

By Bassman7

from Up in the middle of nowhere in NY

I bought the ashdown 600magr last year and i run it with two peavey 1820 cabinets. i've actually a busted window with it! this head can get LOUD! it's not as loud as a mark 3 peavey head but for a new and up to date specs this amp head rocks! i don't really care for the ashdown speakers but if you run it with peavey black widows like i've got you'd best be ready for some real lows!i can sum this amp head up in two words when it's run with peavey or ampeg cabs: Kick Ass!
