OVERVIEW

This EVO II MAG features an on-board compressor and vinyl covered cabinet.

MAG is designed for the busy semi-pro player who wants classic ABM tone without the more sophisticated facilities and connectivity.

The MAG C115-300 1x15 Bass Combo features a potent fan-cooled 307-watt RMS power section. Rotary bass, middle, and treble controls are supplemented by smaller rotary controls—providing 15dB of cut and boost at 220Hz and 1.6kHz and effectively creating a comprehensive 5-band EQ section. Additionally, front panel push switches for Bright and Deep settings provide instant access to attacking and warm, rounded sounds, respectively. On the subject of low-end response, the trademark Ashdown sub-harmonic generator is willing and able to deliver truckloads of earth-moving tone if called upon. Inputs are provided for active and passive instruments, and the front panel also features an effects send and return; a tuner/line output; and a balanced DI output for direct connection to a mixing console.

Power is delivered through a custom Ashdown speaker—famous for its controlled and extended low-end performance, exceptional midrange attack, and bright top end.

The amplifier also includes a built-in compressor with precision sonic control, and the cabinet is finished in a tough, retro-style vinyl covering.

A great gigging amp

By FenderMB4

from Texas

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II 307W 1x15 Bass Combo Amp:

Why couldn't they have put a tweeter with an on/off switch for it in this thing like my old SWR? It would have made it so much more versitile.
I have owned the Ashdown Mag 15-300 for about six years now. Three years of that was busy two gigs a week work. I really like it. I had a SWR Workingmans 15 before that, but with the 160 watts of the SWR I was always struggling to hear myself with overly noisy bands, so I moved up to the Ashdown 15-300 and have not had any problem with volume since. For me, the best thing about the Ashdown is the ease of dialing in the right sound for each stage I play on or for each practice. The five knob rotary EQ section is easy to dial in the right sound. High/low and bass boast buttons help you tweak your sound further. More me, every stage sounds different and I want my set up and warm up to take like three minutes and thats it. I had it in the shop once about four years ago. I dont remember what the problem was, but just before a show it didnt work and fortunately the bass player for the warm up act was kind enough to let me use his gear. After that, I have not had any problems. There is a plug in the back to run another cabinet, and I run a 12 kick-back speaker on the other side of the stage with the Ashdown when I am on large stages and it sounds extra nice all over the stage. My only disappointment is I wish it hat a tweeter, because I prefer a sharp, bright tone and I think I could get that tone better with a couple of tweeters. I thought about putting one in, but I figured I better leave well enough alone.
I gave the Ashdown a 7 instead of a 10 on quality because the gig it failed on me still haunts me and I didn't do anything between the last practice and the gig to make it fail.
I believe the next cheapest thing in its class would be the 300W Behrenger, and that is quite a step down.

Awesome Tone and Power

By Joe Egan

from North Carolina

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II 307W 1x15 Bass Combo Amp:

I use this amp as my main amp, and it has a tone that can't be beat! I tried to shy away from combo's when I was looking into new gear, but kept coming back to this one as an option. This amp has everything I need from an onboard EQ, to the DI out (Which comes in VERY handy for recording), and the sub harmonics are a cool touch (though I don't really use them). The overall value is amazing, and the amp packs more of a punch than would ever be nessiarry. I've used it from your average dive bar on up to a packed venue, and you DO NOT NEED 8X10, a single 15 does the trick every time. The only thing I would hope to change is that there should be some casters on the bottom, as it is VERY heavy and the strap is not helpful on lifting. Also, handles on the sides (like on a bigger cab) would be nice.
