Ashdown Mag 300 15inch Combo

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

I bought a Ashdown Mag 300 Combo and found it great until I realised that it only gave me 200watts with the Standard Blue 8 ohms speaker, you need to add a 8 ohms extension cab to get 300watts out of it,
I have just replaced the 8 ohms speaker with a 4 ohms speaker and what a difference, louder and better bottom end tone etc superb and now I don't need an extension cab to get 300watts out of the combo.

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

I wanted an amp that was light weight, loud enough for gigs, and sounded good. I DID NOT go into a store and try out many amps, and I didn't get a chance to play this one. What a wonderful surprise! It arrived 12/24/07 at 11:14 and I couldn't wait to try it. I plugged it in, set all the EQ dials to 12:00 (straight up, or half way) and set the volume to about 1/4 of the way. Man, this baby sounded INCREDIBLE! When you plug into it, play your bass and set the input level via the meter, staying just below the redline. VERY clean and articulate. The notes flew out so smoothly and the tone was incredible. I have played through a HUGE array of amps before, (even OLD tube ampegs) but this one is the best sounding so far to me. I play old rock, blues, some country, a little bit of heavy rock/metal, and this amp will fill the bill. I used my Warwick Corvette bass, and it never sounded so nice. I would HIGHLY suggest this amp to anyone looking for a light weight, great sounding LOUD bass amp. Even at low volumes, this thing rattled the guitars hanging on my studio wall. You can get great big thick deep bottom at low levels, which is hard to achieve with most amps. The sub switch works great when you play higher notes. I didn't hear it a great deal on the low notes (open E) as much. The EQ settings were very usable, meaning that a small adjustment made changes that you could actually hear! I LOVE this amp, and would NOT hesitate to get another if this one was stolen or suffered some catastrophic event. Its more than I imagined, and in a word...Inspirational! You CANT go wrong with this amp. It is more than a dream!

Great amp on the road

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

Every stage is different, and with my Ashdown 115-300 I can tune a perfect sound in about 2 minutes and I am set for the night. I have had it on the road for 4+ years and I love it. Tweak freaks that want to noodle with knobs all night long will not like its simple controls. GREAT tone, expecually on a solid stage, but a wooden stage is easy to tune to as well. I keep thinking I will add a 2-10 cab with it, but it sounds so good I never get around to doing that. I had to have our tech fix something on it after year 3, but that is to be expected when you are rough on your amps with a lot of travel.

Great amp for someone with a semi-high budget

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

I bought this amp so I would have something powerful to play in my band. It is plenty loud with a great tone and has plenty of headroom. I play in a metal band with two guitarists and a hard hitting drummer and I can still hear myself. When I crank up the amp, my Fender Jazz gets the meanest, most agressive tone that cuts through beautifully. I highly recommend this amp to anyone that wants a powerful amp for not too much money. The only thing I don't like about this amp is that it only has one handle on the top rather than two handles on the side which makes it slightly difficult to transport. This amp is heavy (about 80 pounds) and side handles would have made it easier.

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

I just got this amazing piece of equipment about a month ago, and I fell madly in love with it the very time I plugged in my Epiphone EB-0. I would recomend this amp to any player. I have a crate 10w and every time I practiced with it my bass became distorted, but now when I practice with the Mag C115-300 combo I can turn it up full and theres no distortion.GET IT!!!

Useful and workmanlike

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

Bought this amp to replace a Carvin Pro 300 that was brilliant but just far too heavy. Used with Ibanez Blazer bass (Precision clone). Can't quite compete on sound or build quality but it's nevertheless a very good if not great piece of equipment and decent value for money. I've added two sprung side handles for ease of transportation. Keep the 220hz and mid pots low-ish for a warm full sound. The bright switch doesn't seem to do much with no tweeter installed. Plenty of power available. I recommend this amp for good sound on a limited budget.

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

Well I have had this amp for so time and it totaly kicks butt. With the 5-band equalizers, to get the perfect tone. The sub-harmonics thing is pretty cool to. It packs plenty of punch when you want it, or a wonderful warm tone for playing a brite song. It is perfect for a gig of about 200. And you can plug it into a pa so no worries. The only problem is that the grill is a little weak so don't hit it hard. Worth the money, you won't regret buying it.

Best for the price and tone!!!!

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

I bought this about a year ago of ebay the wood around the head unit crack but not around the speaker so everything for tone is still intact, the sub harmonic went out but is still get awesome low end and the the mids and highs cut threw the mix great. I recommend this to and gigging bass who doesnt want to lug a 8x10, 4x10 or anything else it is hard to find a good product to match tone for the price. I play with 2 guitarist and a drummer who has little control and I still manage to be louder than them...Buy this or miss out.

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

I am stunned. I just got this very compact little amp and am knocked out by the volume and depth of sound. Don't let the lack of graphic eq etc. fool you this amp has a full range of tones, virtually any sound is possible. So far I have cranked this to the max and it does not distort. I also hooked up another bass extension cabinet with it and was almost knock over by the punchy, clear, very loud sound. Great low end.I have been playing for nearly 40 years and have owned just about everything. This is by far the most impressive amp I have ever owned. You can't go wrong with this.

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

This particular model (Ashdown MAG C115-300) has enough power in my opinion to give a true bass sound! The price is extremely reasonable! And the amp can be carried by one person. Also there is an extra quarter-inch jack to add an additional speaker cabinet. The reason I only gave it a 9 in Features is that there is not a jack for a footswitch. Nice optional speaker cabs available!

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

this is the cheapest amp i've ever owned, and i was surprised at what you can get for the price. the tone is NOT hi-fi or "open" or super clear. but it is "warm" and has a nice thick vibe to it. i wish it had better highs (hey, it's one 15" speaker) but it's got a good beefy tone for the price, and i don't think there's anything else out there in this price range for 300 watts. Looks great, sounds pretty good, lots of clean headroom.

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

I just bought this amp. 11-11-09 I am a new bassisit but have been playing drums for 32 years. I know the importance of a bass amp that can truly reproduce EVERY note, and do it CLEAN and loud. This little powerhouse can do just that. I added another 10" tweeter cabinet and HOLY SMOKE this thing ROCKS.

Great Value

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

Have owned this amp for a couple months now. Good features and the sound can fill a room and small venues easily. I mostly play this at home and when I took it to an auditorium (2000 capacity or so) it just really opened up. For the price, I highly recommend it. Great styling and I also liked several of the effects features. I always use the "deep" setting, you get a real thick sound out of it, and also the "sub" setting gives a layered effect. The only real flaws are that it is hard to carry with only a top carrying strap. I could really use those embedded side handles for when I'm lugging it around. Also there is no tweeter, although you're everyday player won't notice the sound that lacks as a result. For those that can afford it, I would suggest to get the Ashdown Mag 210 (same wattage, side handles, and tweeter). If not, then you can't miss with this one.

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

I bought this about a month ago so I'd have something I could hear over a drummer. This thing gets pretty loud and I love the tone. For this price it's pretty hard to beat. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 for features is the lack of side handles. The top handle makes it little awkward to carry. I'd recommend this bass to anyone looking for a good rehearsal/small gig combo.

Great value 300 watt Combo

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

I had my eye on this since I started coming to this website and actually found one for sale 1 year old for 300 bucks! The e.q. is very versatile and hooking up another cab is LOUD. Pretty sure it doesnt do 300 watts by itself at 8 ohms so you'll need a 8 ohm cab to go with it. However, that is the industry standard in bass amplification it seems. I have for now another 15" cab hooked up to it and I move so much air its insane! I was using a 150 watt Fender combo before this and the power this Ashdown puts out is frightening. I think you can blow the speaker in it if you max the e.q. knobs and go for broke with the volume knobs. So make sure you listen good to your speaker for distortion while cranking it. That said, people looking to enter the 300 watt realm and dont have alot of money to spend should take note of this product. Berhinger may be too much of a gamble reliability wise, and G-K's entry level doesnt have the same sound/tone as their higher grade equipment. The MAG series is very comparable to Ashdowns higher grade products. Safe bet to go with this item in my opinion!

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

The Ashdown Mag C115 300w bass amp is not for the person that needs to doodle with a lot of knobs, so do not get it and complain it doesn't have a 50 band EQ or something. The EQ is basic but functional, and boost/cuts on the highs and lows help shape the sound. That's it, and that is one of the reasons I bought it.The machine shines above them all in quality - Reliable sound, quiet even at high volumes, and solid as a brick. I have had mine three years and am still very pleased.I gave it a slightly lower feature rating because it is beyond me why Ashdown did not put a horn or tweeter in it and I wish this unit had a little more sparkle. I am thinking of adding a 2x10 for sound and to also make the 300w more efficient, as this amp does not seem as loud as a 300w should be. Love it for its quality, price and reliable sound.

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

I have had this amp for about a month now and it just blew me away. I gave it a ten for features becuse it has that sub-Harmonic switch, which is awsome. It also has the deep switch is gives it that beefy Ashdown sound. The only reason I gave it a 9 for quality is beacause it has no tweeter which would make it sound awsome, also it has that top handle which makes it a pain to lug around. I will probably buy a cab for it. I recomend getting this thing if you are juat starting a band. I bought it for small gigs.

Comments about Ashdown MAG C115-300 EVO II Bass Combo Amp:

I have owned this amp for about a year now and it has not let me down once. I stack this amp up with the Ashdown MAG 410T and the sound I get from the amp is huge, I have never heard it distort or sound anything other than fantastic. If I have one complaint it is that this amp does not have a footswitch for the subharmonic generator, you cant turn it on and off while playing. But the new line of Ashdown Classic amps have this feature. All in all I love my amp and will be an Ashdown costumer for a while yet.
