Comments about Ashdown Rootmaster 220W Bass Head:

First unit was DOA. Second unit the Speakon hybrid output did not work with Speakon, but did work with 1/4" speaker cable. The built-in overdrive, suboctave and compression controls added some nice tone variations, but the FS2 foot pedal (optional) is proprietary and was out of stock and almost impossible to find.

Comments about Ashdown Rootmaster 220W Bass Head:

Bought this amp head on an SOTD. The sound, power and features are superb. Alas, though, the internal fan (which runs all the time) makes too much noise for me. I suspect that for the vast majority of players, especially those who perform (and even rehearse) at loud volumes, the internal fan noise would not be an issue. But I play at low volumes (house concerts and the like), and I like my gear to be dead silent when I'm not playing. A shame, since I really loved the sound from this amp.

Comments about Ashdown Rootmaster 220W Bass Head:

Mainly a guitar player, but I get the call for a bass gig now and then. I rebuilt my bass rig in 2011 but was never quite happy with it. I have always been a fan of the Ashdown bass sound and had another of their portable heads that really didn't thrill me. Both it and my previous amp were muddy. Could it have been my bass or my cab? By using each with different heads silenced those thoughts. So I started looking again for an amp in the 200w range and found this. Read the reviews watched the awful videos people made about themselves using this amp and realized the amp could be better than the demos I tprtired myself with. Figured "hey I've got 45 days...". It arrived today. 10 minutes later I put my other bass heads on the market. So long, fair well.

I use this head with a no-name 2x10 housing a pair of re-coned high wattage speakers. My bass is a Curbow 4 with a Bartolini pickup and preamp. The last time my bass sounded this good I used a now out of production 150 lb back breaker.

The EQ is perfect. At first my assessment was contrary only to find the EQ was punched out. The compressor is good. Better than a one knob control normally is. Wish it was foot switchable with the nice boost it adds. The drive is decent and not a feature I will make much use of. Being a parallel drive causes it to be as effective for the Cliff Burton player in you. The Sub brings a sweet thickness when kept counter clockwise of noon.

I've heard there is a new, more powerful Neo edition on the way but I feel like it would be overkill unless I land a touring gig as a bass player.

Comments about Ashdown Rootmaster 220W Bass Head:

I took a chance and bought this amp for my Fender VI guitar (which is a cross between a bass and a standard guitar). Since it had an extensive EQ, I was hoping it was workable. I am totally blown away. Sounds amazing on the Fender, as well as on all of my guitars. The build on this thing is rock solid with a very thick metal enclosure, fan, direct out and more. I have owned many a nice guitar amp, nothing has come close to the build quality of this Rootmaster.
