Comments about Ashdown Rootmaster 250W 2x10 Bass Speaker Cab:
This was a level 3 scratch and dent item and it was dirt cheap. Big crease across the front of the cabinet. When I plugged it up it sounded beyond broken. Five screws were at the bottom of the grill with one speaker held in by one screw and the other held in by a screw and one falling out. I was not happy, took a bunch of pictures and was ready to (expletive) express my disbelief that no one checked this out before it was resold.
I ckecked the crossover it was fine, all wiring good and decided to rotate and remount the speakers. Redrilled the mounting screws and reinforced the speaker to the facing board. Plugged it back up and this cabinet rocks. Played it for about two hours, rechecked the speakers and they were rock solid. Rehearsed with it and the speakers are still solid. The facing board is a type of pressed wood with the speakers correctly drllled and mounted. Back in the days, it was not uncommon to retighten the speakers in the cabinets every time we came back off the road, as routine maintenance. Pushing a lot of power at high volume will vibrate speakers loose in a couple of nights. If you do not rotate and remount them, they begin to rattle and even fall out.
I came out lucky and ended up with a decent cabinet. Overall, it sounds good and has no rattles. Good bass response and rebuilt to last. I am glad I kept it.
