OVERVIEW

A ready-to-rock 2x10" combo with plenty of power.

After months of research & development, Ashdown has designed a range of products that are equipped with more features, more power, new stylish designs and best of all, a dramatic reduction in size and weight. The Rootmaster range of bass amplifiers truly stands out from the crowd.

The RM-420 combo features a comprehensive Pre Amp, with a classic 5 band EQ, an all-new compressor, plus footswitchable Drive and Sub Harmonic effects. A newly designed Class D power section and specially designed Ashdown 2 x 10" speakers help keep the weight down. Other features include a mini jack auxiliary input with level control, FX loop, XLR DI, Speakon/Jack combination out and a jack input for an (optional) FS-2 footswitch. The all new MAG RM range is the solution for bassists who need affordable and dependable light weight power houses that present real low-end power.

Dedicated to busy, hard-working bass players on a budget, Rootmaster heads, combos and cabinets draw on all of Ashdown's experience working with some of the biggest bands in the world to deliver workhorse reliability, creative tone-shaping, comprehensive recording and performing facilities plus the sonic slam you need to underpin your band's performances night after night - all at a price that won't break the bank.

Simple, powerful EQ
It all starts with an ultralow-noise instrument input where the accompanying Input Level control helps you perfectly match the output of your bass. Five-band rotary tone controls act with surgical precision to provide total control over your sound, while a Shape switch instantly dials you in to a classic Ashdown tone setting, straight from the world-famous ABM.

One-knob Compression
Instantly adding warmth and body to your tone, this simple to use, great sounding compressor delivers a powerful, even sound to make sure your bass will fill out any mix.

Footswitchable variable overdrive
With footswitchable flexibility, Ashdown's tube-emulated overdrive can take your core bass sound and push it into warm overdrive through to distorted filth whenever you need to add extra grind and girth to your tone.

Kick it down
Bringing extra depth and definition to your bass parts, the Sub-Harmonic Generator lets you dial in a sub-octave and kick it in via footswitch whenever you need the extra depth for those super-heavy Godzilla moments.

Totally connected
If you want to use your favourite pedals or multi-effects, you'll find send and return sockets on the back panel, along with a DI output for direct injection into the PA mixer or recording console and a Line Input (with front panel level control) so you can jam along with a backing track in rehearsal.

FEATURES
  • Flexible and lightweight bass amp with 2 x 10" Ashdown speakers and a horn
  • Built-in compressor and footswitchable overdrive for added punch and growl
  • On-board Sub-Harmonic effect for added depth (footswitchable via optional FS-2 footswitch)
  • Comprehensive five-band rotary EQ; Shape function boosts high and low frequencies
  • Balanced XLR Direct Out; Effects Loop; Auxiliary Line In with Mix Control

Comments about Ashdown Rootmaster 420W 2x10 Bass Combo Amp:

I was looking for more bass power for my 5 piece coverband, and I wanted to go 15" cab to get the lower frequency. I thought this 420 combo would rattle the rafters, but I'm sorry to say it's just underpowered. My 250w Carvin in much lowder, I think this is false advertisement on Ashdowns part . You can dial up some great tones with the settings but this amp is better used for a small studio setting.

Comments about Ashdown Rootmaster 420W 2x10 Bass Combo Amp:

This is a very nice, well built amp, but the issue is with the volume. There is no way that this is 420 watts, and I believe it to be in the 220 watt arena based on the stand-alone heads that Ashdown sells as well as other reviews I've read. I feel that the descriptions are mislabeled in terms of wattage.

This will NOT work for hard rock bands unless you're running through a PA. This is inadaquate for my band rehearsal and any medium sized club. I am now running a 1x15 extension cab, and that seems to boost the volume a bit.

That said, what a great amp, albeit on the expensive side factoring in that this isn't as powerful as advertised. Very nice features, I use the VU meter a low to help me keep the gain under control. I tend not to use the overdrive because I did not get the optional footswitch and can't simply lean over to press a small button on the amp during a song.

I love the sound this gives off with both my fretted and fretless basses, and this is a great amp for sound reinforcement when using an upright bass.

I wish it came with casters to eliminate the need for a hardtruck/cart. Of note, this took a header off the front of a handtruck, and no issues in terms of reliability and aethietics. It's a well put together amp.
