Comments about Bad Cat Bobcat 5W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
I own this amp, mine is one of the first 25 made so it differs slightly in that the front control panel face is slanted and the logo is at the bottom left (I asked and according to Bad Cat these subtle mods are a "tip of the hat" to the first 25 made) and though it does have the "rip switch" it is not foot-switchable [not an issue IMHO]. Other than these essentially cosmetic differences the core features of the amp are identical to the current production run amps. Since I don't currently play in a band or gig anymore I need a smaller amp that produces great tone at bedroom levels - tone that makes it hard to put the guitar down. I've purchased dozens of amps on this quest and I've never been totally happy...until I found this gem! THIS AMP IS AMAZING!
The simple control panel means no messing around with knobs to try and find usable sounds. With my strats I find the amp is generally pretty clean - even with the gain all the way up and the humbucker selected. It can get dirty if you push the master volume up (typical power amp tube breakup) and even dirtier with the rip switch engaged. I find the rip switch adds too much noise for my taste and I never use it. I use a Wampler Sovereign Distortion with this amp and it's amazing too! The tone knob is very functional and takes away or adds as much treble as you want. The clean sound is not a Fender clean sound but it is sonically complex and nuanced (warm with enough chime). There is oodles of on-board spring reverb. The effects loop is amazing and I run all my modulations effects via the loop - simple send and return.
So after all that what I've got here is a simple/USA made/hand wired tone monster that I can rock even after the kids go to bed. Don't let 5W fool you however, it can be very loud but the master volume means sweet tones at bedroom levels and that's exactly what I've been looking for!
