Overview

Awesome, versatile tube tones in a power level you can use anywhere.

The Bad Cat USA Player Series Cub 40R preserves the vintage purity of the original Cub circuit while offering increased flexibility. This improved design offers the ability to select between a 12AX7 or EF86 pre-amp tube using the mini toggle on the faceplate or the included foot switch. This new feature offers far more gain and versatility than early Cub models.

Bad Cat also added a selectable tone stack boost in both modes to give this pure single channel amp four unique gain stages. These top boosted options can achieve everything from classic British 12AX7 chime to complex EF86 gain tones that were unachievable on earlier versions of the Cub.

A two-button foot switch to select the EF86 or 12AX7 pre-amp tube and engage the boost is included. The global Cut control allows the selected tone to be fined tuned to your instruments and room by trimming unwanted high treble frequencies.

Patented K Master
The K Master is a great innovation in master-volume technology. Players who have experienced it know that power-amp gain is different than pre-amp gain. It feels and sounds different. Oftentimes what players associate with “power amp” distortion however, is really the sound of the phase inverter tube getting crushed by the output of the preamp section. To this point, master volumes have always been passive attenuators that were unable to do anything but attenuate before or after the phase inverter tube. The drive to the power section after the phase inverter was always dependent on the drive coming from the pre-amp.

The K Master works differently. The Master works as an independent amplifier circuit which sits post phase inverter, independently controlling the power to the power tubes while keeping the tone and sound of the preamp even as it overdrives the phase inverter intact.

The K Master patented technology has allowed us to re-invent the concept of the master volume and make amps that are built for stage use, useful for bedroom applications.

This amazing amplifier covers everything from clean sparkle to harmonically rich saturation and is available in a head or 112 combo. Experience why Bad Cat amps are played by some of the biggest artists on some of the largest stages in the world.

Reverb
The Cub 40R head comes with a studio digital reverb circuit, with lush reverb that sits perfectly in the mix.

What is the difference between the USA Player Series and Legacy Series amps?
Both are hand built in Bad Cat's California shop by its experienced crew using the same chassis, components and transformers. Components on its Legacy amps are connected with meticulous point-to-point solder joints. Identical components on the USA Player Series amps are through-hole mounted on a military grade circuit board. Still constructed by hand, the PCB construction offers time savings, build consistency and the ability to isolate grounding planes for reduced noise. This method of construction requires a different style of jacks, potentiometers and tube sockets, but no expense is spared. Bad Cat use high-quality jacks, premium grade sealed pots and ceramic tube sockets to maintain the same level of quality as our Legacy Series. All Bad Cat amps are housed in the same finger- joined cabinetry and combos are equipped with the proprietary Bad Cat UK Celestion speaker.
