BBE

A rock-solid distortion that churns out vintage style tone.

The 427 is the modern muscle car of distortion pedals, with a big, meaty tone that’s ready to kick ass. Another Paul Gagon creation, 427 builds on his experience crafting pedals for the gods of rock, but this one’s got a distinctly American voice.

427 fires up with a potent variation of Gagon’s proven LED-based distortion circuit as used in the BBE Blacksmith, with the power flowing to a sweepable EQ (CSEQ) section inspired by an early ’70s Big Muff Pi and optimized for maximum flexibility.

On a mission to raise hell on rock-and-roll streets from New York to L.A., 427 delivers more raw power than yesteryear’s muscle with better handling. With a beefy mil-spec circuit board sporting big, fat signal traces, 1% metal-film resistors and high-voltage poly caps, 427 is engineered to be deliver rock-solid performance and never leave you stranded. And when you aren’t in the mood to lay down serious rubber, 427’s true hardwire bypass lets your tone slip by without so much as angry glance from the tone police.

Features
  • Gain, level and continuously-sweepable EQ tone control
  • LED-based gain circuit for smooth, high-output distortion
  • 1MEG Ohms input impedance for proper pickup loading
  • 10kOhms output impedance when engaged
  • 1% metal-film resistors for consistency
  • High-voltage poly caps for better tone
  • Military-spec circuit board for reliability
  • Blue status LED for high visibility and low power consumption
  • Easy access battery compartment
  • True hardwire bypass

Pure muscle that's ready to go.

This is like having a Marshall stack in your pocket. This is a solid built pedal done up in sparkle blue. I have several high gain pedals that sound good, but give me hum. The 427 is quite, no hum, and has a nice full sound. Good control of tone. Not too much treble, not too much bass for me. Only con is that it is not useful to get a touch of bite, it wants to do Classic Rock to almost Metal. It does this Very well! No Blues driver here. If you need to go to 11, this is it!

Distortion is a highly personal choice, so keep that in mind, but this one is not my cup of tea. It doesn't seem to give a wide range of distortion and the sound is too dark for what I do. It is built like a tank, like most BBE pedals, but will more likely suit a heavy metal player. But for $XX, you can't go wrong. I am building a second pedal board consisting of all the cheapest pedals I can find, except no Dano's, and this one will sit in the distortion chain proudly.

Comments about BBE 427 Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal sounds good through my set up. I run a split out of another pedal to a solid state amp and a tube amp. Sounds good through either amp and combined is really nice. Pushes the tube amp into a nice little break-up.

Comments about BBE 427 Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Before buying the pedal I when out to YOUTUBE to hear other play with it. I didn't get those same tone but them I relized I had much driffent EQP and need to adjust to what I use and playing style once I did I fell in love with the tone I'm get out of it. Using it mostly for Blues playing it can have a warm sound come out of it. the video I watch had a hot rock and roll sound come out of it but I think it depend on you EQP you have.

Comments about BBE 427 Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Many times, I've used pedals that simply didn't sound like real amp distortion. However, this one is definitely an exception. This pedal creates warm, natural, distortion with many options that allow you to channel in the perfect tone. I wish there were more pedals on the market that were this responsive!

Comments about BBE 427 Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Bought this on a one of the Stupid Deals of the Day, money well spent. I have tried it in front of the clean channel on a Mesa Dual Rectifier (though gain was slightly up to add some dirt) and really achieved those early Marshall JCM 800 tones, with tons of headroom. Next I put it in front of a 1983 Marshall JCM 800, responded similar to a vintage Rat pedal, crisp gain, thick bottom end chunk, gnarly mids and highs. Next I stuck it in front of a 1968 Fender Bassman, that 50 watter was able to compete with any of my 100 watt rigs. I don't play silky smooth blues nor do I play high tech metal, but if you enjoy tones from Motorhead, Steve Jones (sex pistols), RIOTGUN, or even Johnny Winters, this pedal will get you there, fast!!!

Comments about BBE 427 Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This 427 sounds great as gain boost in front of Marshall Plexi amp. At 75% there is no added noise so this is a good pedal. Small size and bypass switching are nice professional features. Sounds great in front of Jackson 100 watt plexi style amp and a few other amps. This exceeded my expectations, this 427 is worthy of pro use and recording since it is silent while adding nice pleasant sounding breakup in front of Plexi style amps.

Comments about BBE 427 Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Does not generate a lot of extra noise. After some experimentation I found the sweet spot on the EQ for my guitar. I found I was abel to add just the right amount of gain and presence to the neck pickup of my tele to make it shine in a solo situation. It would most likely have the same effect on the neck pickup of any guitar that needs a little extra to make it cut through. With a little experimentation it should prove to be very useful. Great addition for the pedal board . I may purchase another as a backup at this price.

Comments about BBE 427 Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

My only knock on this nice distortion pedal is that the battery compartment is, for some strange reason, very difficult to access. Getting a new 9v in, or especially out, is ridiculous compared to the ease of a Boss pedal. Other than that, it looks cool and sounds cool. There is a wide range from boost to overdrive to pretty high gain distortion. I use the DS-1 as a measuring stick and this is comparable to me. The sound in a little warmer, maybe "fatter" than the DS-1. DS-1 sounded crisper to me. Also, this BBE provides more volume at a given level selection. Overall, I would recommend trying this pedal out.
