OVERVIEW

Makes amplified acoustic instruments sound more natural.

3-band recording-console-quality EQ with sweepable mid and low frequency notch filter. Phase reversal, ground lift, line level out, dedicated tuner out, TRS effects loop, and even a pre/post switchable DI output with pad make this a true studio-quality device that shines onstage. Hardwire bypass, non-slip rubber bottom, included 12V power supply.

The BBE Process--"What it Is"
Loudspeakers have difficulty working with the electronic signals supplied by an amplifier. These difficulties cause such major phase and amplitude distortion that the sound reproduced by the speaker differs significantly from the sound produced by the original source.

In the past, these problems proved unsolvable and were thus relegated to a position of secondary importance in audio system design. However, phase and amplitude integrity is essential to accurate sound reproduction. Research shows that the information which the listener translates into the recognizable characteristics of a live performance are intimately tied into complex time and amplitude relationships between the fundamental and harmonic components of a given musical note or sound. These relationships define a sound's "sound".

When these complex relationships pass through a speaker, the proper order is lost. The higher frequencies are delayed. A lower frequency may reach the listener's ear first or perhaps simultaneously with that of a higher frequency. In some cases, the fundamental components may be so time-shifted that they reach the listener's ear ahead of some or all of the harmonic components.

This change in the phase and amplitude relationship on the harmonic and fundamental frequencies is technically called "envelope distortion." The listener perceives this loss of sound integrity in the reproduced sound as "muddy" and "smeared." In the extreme, it can become difficult to tell the difference between musical instruments, for example, an oboe and a clarinet.

BBE Sound, Inc. conducted extensive studies of numerous speaker systems over a ten year period. With this knowledge, it became possible to identify the characteristics of an ideal speaker and to distill the corrections necessary to return the fundamental and harmonic frequency structures to their correct order. While there are differences among various speaker designs in the magnitude of their correction, the overall pattern of correction needed is remarkably consistent.

The BBE Process is so unique that 42 patents have been awarded by the U.S. Patent Office.

Comments about BBE Acoustimax Sonic Maximizer/Preamp Pedal:

I wired it so that my overdrive, compressor, and uni-vibe are in the Acoustimax effects loop. Since the preamp is in front of the FX loop which is in front of the pedal's EQ and Sonic Max, it acts as a clean buffer or boost for the pedals that might suffer from tone loss. The output of the Acoustimax runs through the delays and reverbs and even the noise filter pedal. You can even run the output directly into the power amp input and skip your amps preamp section for astonishing clean sound. I'm using a Fender Hotrod Deluxe w/ V30 speaker.

Comments about BBE Acoustimax Sonic Maximizer/Preamp Pedal:

Have used this preamp for a month now. I bought this based on all the positive reviews. I play a couple different acoustic guitars through the board and was frustrated with sound and feedback problems in the full band situation. Always felt I was having to dial away all the best acoustic tone from my martins to handle the room levels. This preamp for me was an instant fix and an added surprise to overall tones of everything I plug into it. I bought this at a great price point from MF and am considering another.

I bought this because my Takamine has 22yr old electronics in it and I wanted to have more flexibility and control over my tone when doing solo acoustic gigs. This product lives up to the BBE name. I love it and would recommend this to anyone.

Comments about BBE Acoustimax Sonic Maximizer/Preamp Pedal:

Very versatile unit. I've used it for electric acoustic guitars with great results, and for electric guitars with piezo bridge pickups. Having the the ability to boost, shape, and enhance the tone while having multiple outs (tuner, XLR, 1/4) makes this unit the perfect swiss knife for dragging the best sound out of my electric piezo pickups. I now use (2). VERY good customer support; they just replaced a dead unit for free... very nice people.

I'm using this with an electric violin. It's solidly built and has a lot of options. It took some time to figure out what each thing really did, but once it was dialed in, it made a significant improvement to my sound. Glad I bought it.

Comments about BBE Acoustimax Sonic Maximizer/Preamp Pedal:

I've played my Taylor DN3 equipped with a Fishman Rare Earth into this box, then to a little mixer to two powered Kustom Monitors so far. Did an A/B of the before & after and have so far had 3 tone-lovers agree that it enhances the right frequencies/overtones of an acoustic guitar. Even through my little Danelectro Nifty Seventy bass practice amp this sounds great. Definitely removes that cheap, piezo/thin sounding acoustic-electric sound that bothers me with most pickup configs. This is 2nd to only micing your acoustic with two mics in the studio. Unit is "heavy", which we all know is the first tip off to quality, and it's sexy. I'm sure it would sound even better through a real PA!

I use this to eliminate the muffled tone on my Epi Valve Jr. amp. with my Tele.
I don't need to pay for an amp mod and I have many options in tone.
              Great Solution!

Comments about BBE Acoustimax Sonic Maximizer/Preamp Pedal:

Bought this BBE Acoustimax Sonic Maximizer/Preamp Pedal on the "Stupid Deal of the Day" - Great price!!!!!

I've been looking for something to spice up my acoustic guitar and this pedal is "IT"! Having an active preamp with EQ is great as that by itself is adds a lot to the guitar, specially having an XLR out. However, the BBE Sonic Maximizer circuit is truly magic. I can easily add bass and highs with the EQ but the Sonic Max process adds "definition" to the sound and makes the guitar stand out. Really nice and I was not expecting it to be this good.

What REALLY got me excited is that this pedal made my Les Paul and Strat sound beautiful! This product is marketed for acoustic instruments but I gotta tell you - it brought my electrics alive!!! Haven't tried it on Bass Guitar but I bet it is going to be great for that as well!

Very usable product - I'll be using it it all the time now.

Gotta say though that I'm a bit disappointed w/ MF - this is the second item that I've ordered that was clearly an "open" box item. the first had surface scratches and was not wrapped like an earlier same unit that I bought. This one had a knob on the pot that is broken and the scotch tape on the plastic bag was torn off! The unit itself works great so I decided to not return it but I'm not sure what is going on here w/ MF. Very disappointing!!!
