OVERVIEW

Faithful reproduction of Dallas Rangemaster treble booster made famous by some of rock's most legendary axemen.

BBE’s Bohemian Treble Boost pedal is patterned after a rare treble booster produced in the mid-'60s that gave many famous players, like Brian May, Tony Iommi, Marc Bolan and Rory Gallagher, the ability to add sustain and overdrive to their favorite guitar amplifier. The Bohemian is a faithful reproduction of the venerable Dallas Rangemaster treble booster, which was often paired with the Vox AC30TB guitar amplifier, in fact the standard combination for Queen’s Brian May was a Rangemaster run into an AC30TB.

The BBE Bohemian, named to pay tribute to Brian May, delivers that distinctive tone.

I bought this during the last SDOTD. If you are like me, this product came out of nowhere. I had no idea this product even existed.

It's a treble booster. For those that don't know, that boosts the treble frequencies and gives the tone more sustain along with more bite. I happen to always want more treble. It sounds ok on a clean amp, better on a loud amp, and best on a pushed amp.

Should I get it if I play at home? Yes. But you will never get it to reach its full potential until the amp has been cranked up though. I suggest stacking it with another OD or a Way Huge harmonic saturator. Black Sabbath on humbuckers is very obtainable. It plays really well with other pedals.

Should I get it if I play gigs? Absolutely. This thing should get you into Hard Rock/Blues heaven at loud volumes. It's nice to run with your pedals on to give that extra snap.

Trick is to just lower your tone on your guitar and find the right sweet spot. You won't regret it.

I looked at the reviews on this. There were only a few, but they were all five stars. I bet on a SDotD. Can't say it's a total wash out, but there are some issues with this pedal that I didn't read about it. Number one is that it's noisy--too noisy to use on stage or for recording. Yea, if you're down in the basement and want an elevated treble sound, it will deliver that. The controls on the pedal are worthless. They don't really affect anything; you get one trebly tone. And a lot of line noise. Like a lot of line noise. I've played with it for a few days and switching its position in the chain, and there's no way around that noise. The housing is pretty skimpy as well. Time will tell if I will hold up. To be honest, if I didn't have to pay return shipping on a return and get the "free" shipping deducted, I'd have sent this back the first day. I should have gone to one of the two brick and mortar shops nearby and just ponied up the extracost it would have cost me to get a pedal that would have been a more professional model.

Comments about BBE Bohemian Treble Boost Pedal:

I bought this pedal because I´m a very big fan of Brian May Sound. I already have other TB that didn`t break that easy with my amplifier (VOX AC4 TV 10``)
I also have the Catalimbread galileo and The very good V-stack , but this unit from BBE The Bohemian nails the Brian may sound with my Brian May Guitar, it cleans very nice and has the tone of the Rangemaster .... I didn´t use with the VOX AC 30, or other good valve amplifier, but for the price ... I recomend.
      good Luck.

Comments about BBE Bohemian Treble Boost Pedal:

I had high hopes for this pedal as I play in a working band with another guitarist and often have trouble hearing my solos. Using 3 different amps I couldn't dial in a decent tone.
This pedal was noisy and when stomped just didn't cut through the mix.

Not for use playing or practicing by yourself. It boosts your signal and makes your tone EXTREAMLLY bright. Works great to make your lead riffs and fills and solos cut throuogh the mix. This is a great pedal for that. I have used a cry baby on but with the potentiometer fully closed to acceve simaler results but this BBE pedal sounds so much thicker.

Comments about BBE Bohemian Treble Boost Pedal:

this pedal is actually a high pass filter and boost, with a variable bias to vary between clean boost to "crunch" - it will also make a Marshall amp sound like an overdriven Fender amp. It's a classic variation of one used by Brian May .

I like the low noise Volume and Bias pots very much. You can get a sand paper distortion or just a little overdrive depending on the clockwise or counter clockwise Bias swing. I'm keeping this pedal. Out with my OCD pedal.

Comments about BBE Bohemian Treble Boost Pedal:

Plug it in and it is instant gratification with the first note. It will put a smile on your face. This pedal reproduces that classic, instantly recognizable tone that was in common use from late 60's up to the mid-seventies. The first lick I did was "Bang a Gong," The next was "Ziggy Stardust," and after that "Smoke on the Water." And of course, it captures the Brian May sound for which this pedal is named. Different amps may give different results. I was playing through a Vox Valvetronix AD50VT amp clean channel, which is darker (less treble) than a fender amp; I got what I was looking for immediately. It's a lot smaller than the Rangemaster on which it is based. The silver finish is nice looking, and its a simple design too, which means it is easy to dial in the tone you are looking for. This pedal can add what was missing and you didn't even know it.

Comments about BBE Bohemian Treble Boost Pedal:

I wanted to try this pedal through a low wattage Marshall style amplifier to see if I could get nearer to the "Beano" tone. Overdrives were a bit too much on the front end of this particular amp and I lost too much definition. When I first stepped on this pedal I was sort of bummed because it really thinned out the bass and lower mids. But taken in context, with a full band, this thing is the bees knees. It only adds a moderate amount of gain but it also really accentuates higher harmonics. This totally changes the "feel" of the guitar. You get a bright but not shrill tone that stands out in a band mix although in a trio situation I think you'd be better off with an overdrive or distortion. It also cleaned up beatifully when I turned the volume knob down. Another cool things is the controllable feedback you can get. All in all a great purchase. I'm rating this as a treble booster, not an overdrive. As a treble booster It gets and deserves five stars.

Comments about BBE Bohemian Treble Boost Pedal:

I rated this pedal as excellent, but with the disclaimer that I had neither purchased nor ever used a treble booster before, so have very little to compare it to. I have always liked BBE pedals and thought I'd give it a whirl since the price was right and I'm always looking for something to get creative juices flowing.

                      This did that for sure.

This pedal has plenty of output, and varying the bias pot varies the "rattiness" or raspy quality of the trble boost. I was able to dial in something I liked in both a Fender Super and Marshall JCM and I was actually surprised that I found myself writting riffs based on what the pedal was doing, which normally doesn't happen for me after 25+ years of playing. I would recommend this for anyone in the market for this type of effect.
