OVERVIEW

A newly redesigned rotary speaker simulator with tons of style and unbelievable tone.

The Soul Vibe, winner of the Guitar World Platinum Award, is back with a new look that really suits the “vibe” of this delicious pedal. Countless guitarists claim that Soul Vibe is the most convincing of analog rotary simulators, delivering on that Leslie experience complete with slight pitch changes as the horn comes and goes. Now Soul Vibe looks as sweet as it sounds. Check out that delicious root beer metallic finish, inspired by the warm, wood finished cabinet of a Leslie. Crème brownface amp knobs are the perfect complement, adding to the visual warmth, while the matching crème logo script puts this gorgeous new Soul Vibe in a class all its own. Just imagine plugging into this pedal and doing your best Gilmour or Trower licks. Yeah, we thought you’d like that.

What hasn’t changed is the Soul Vibe’s commitment to an authentic rotary experience with the convenience, reliability and durability you’ve come to expect from BBE, including 1% metal-film resistors and true hardwire bypass. If rotary is your vibe, get a Soul Vibe and discover that heaven is still in heavy rotation.

I really like this pedal! BBE has changed the looks, and it is an improvement. The old model had the cartoon graphics which I can gladly do without. The new one is very attractive with a sort of metal flake root beer enamel finish and two creme-colored knobs for speed and intensity. It has a bright LED that lets you know when it is engaged, and pulsates in relation to the speed. It has a rugged metal on/off switch that makes a mechanical clicking sound when stepped on, but does not interfere with the signal. This pedal is a true bypass Leslie rotary simulator and sounds amazingly like a vintage Univibe. BBE has decided not to provide a power adapter with their new models, but they do include a 9 volt battery. The Soul Vibe draws 200mA of power. My only complaint is the smelly rubber backing on the bottom of the unit. I'm hoping that it will dissipate with time. I don't think that I will use this pedal for most songs, as I mostly use a compressor and a delay. But it certainly will have its place for many desired effects and certain songs. I can't imagine ever wanting to sell it. It has great tone and is highly recommended. But only you can decide if it fits your style of music.

I use this as a Leslie simulator and while the sound is good it flavors my guitar tone even when switched off. If you used it as your only effect it would be fine but I placed on the recommended place on my pedalboard but unfortunately I am going to have to remove it completely.

Comments about BBE Soul Vibe Rotary Speaker Simulator Guitar Effects Pedal:

Thought it was just the interior trim that I had to adjust to bring the brightness back that it sucked out of my tone... adjusted the trim...ack, all the tone sounded like someone sat on it. Sending it back, post-haste. That said, not completely terrible, especially for the price.

Comments about BBE Soul Vibe Rotary Speaker Simulator Guitar Effects Pedal:

BBE continues to impress with their build quality and tone. I think these could rival most small-builder pedals in tone, and exceed many in tone and features.
The LED is bright and pulses in time with the effect. True bypass is another great feature. The battery hatch is easy access and tool-less to open. Even the 9 volt battery snap is a nice one-piece hard plastic unit. The board layout is precise and well executed. Even the paint is metal flake, even and pleasing to the eye.
The sound is warm, big and very Robin T. and Jimi H. As a SDOTD is was a great buy.

Comments about BBE Soul Vibe Rotary Speaker Simulator Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is a simple pedal to use with two controls and an internal trim pot. Most importantly, it delivers an authentic Uni-Vibe sound. The Owner's Manual includes recommended settings for Gilmour's "Breathe", Hendrix's "Machine Gun", and Trower's "Bridge of Sighs" (as well as settings to simulate a Leslie)...and these settings give you just those sounds.

This pedal has a nice warmth to it and can go from a slow, chorus-type wash to an intense, almost disorienting swirl effect. It sounds great running before my overdrives and fuzz; the manual recommends placing the Soul Vibe before dirt pedals for the classic Uni-Vibe sound.

I wasn't in the market for a rotary simulator, but I snagged this on MF's one-hour sale. Definitely worth the price if you're in the market for that classic Uni-Vibe sound.

Comments about BBE Soul Vibe Rotary Speaker Simulator Guitar Effects Pedal:

This nice pedal out of the box at factory internal settings was too deep on the low end. If you read the pedal instructions, who does that but in passing I did, it informs that the tonal range can be easily changed from deep to crystal treble by rotating the internal pot, right for brighter, left for deeper bass. Remove the case screws to avail the potentiometer.
Just a small turn edging right leveled out the pedal.
Now it is a great pedal

Comments about BBE Soul Vibe Rotary Speaker Simulator Guitar Effects Pedal:

Supposedly based on the UniVibe, this pedal does provide a lush, sweeping rotary effect. However, as a Leslie speaker simulator, there are probably better options out there. In my opinion, BBE's Mind Bender pedal produces a better Leslie effect (as does my POD 2.0). One unfortunate issue is that there is a noticeable boost in volume when the effect is engaged. There is an internal trim control, which allows you to change the frequency range of the sweep, but the signal boost issue remains a problem.
This pedal can produce subtle Pink Floyd or Robin Trower-like 'vibes'. For that reason, I'm going to keep it around.

Comments about BBE Soul Vibe Rotary Speaker Simulator Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have the original with the old paint design. I got it shortly after it was first introduced by BBE. They did an excellent job of creating an affordable, great-sounding vibe that never fails to bring a smile to my face. The internal trim-pot is a nice feature to have if you want to tweak the tone just a bit. Like a lot of players, I think it would be nice to be able to adjust this as a third knob on the outside. However, that's a minor quibble. If you grew up listening to the recordings of Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock and the Fillmore East as well as those first few Robin Trower albums, you have to check out the Soul Vibe.

Comments about BBE Soul Vibe Rotary Speaker Simulator Guitar Effects Pedal:

BBE/Dunlop recommends this goes before your 'dist./pre-amp', but if you have an efx-loop, it works better there in my experience. I already use a Fulltone Mini Deja-Vibe3 (with the gas-pedal control for 'Speed'), so I didn't expect this SoulVibe to be a better vibe than that one (I got this to go an another, smaller p-board than my stage-rig). If you like a little modulation, just not as heavy-handed as a flange/phase, this works great. Wind up the Intensity and you'll hear the 'horn' whooshing around. There are some really cool sounds on different settings, but you'll need to reach down and re-adjust it each time....I'm totally spoiled on my Deja-Vibe; I'm only keeping this 2-knob BBE to save space on my back-up p-board. To me, this is superior to the VoodooLab 2-knobber I tried, and, like I said, a decent vibe is all the 'modulation' I need. If this unit had even a jack for one's own exp. pedal to change 'Speed' in real time it would be as useful as a Uni or Deja. Anyhow, I think this is the best of the smaller 2-control vibes out there. If you're able/willing to spend more--and have more room on your board--see my review (on this site) of the Fulltone Mini Deja-Vibe3 and decide for yourself. Hope this helps.
