OVERVIEW

A bass effect pedal that will bring out the life and shine of your bass sound.

Sound engineers and professional bass players have known for years that high-quality limiting and enhancement makes bass tracks pop in the mix. The Bass Limiter Enhancer BLE400 gives your playing that same velvety finishing touch by smoothing out inconsistent volume peaks. This is especially noticeable if your performance involves slapping and popping styles.

The BLE400 will make your tone as solid as your performance. Even if you employ the best technique, there will be volume inconsistencies in your sound. This becomes really obvious when you switch from finger-style playing to slapping and popping. The BLE400 can help smooth out these inconsistencies and improve your sound. A limiter works by reducing the dynamic range of a signal, often referred to as compression. This means that loud signals are turned down and softer sounds are turned up, so they more closely match each other. The resulting sound is more powerful, focused and rich in tone.

By its very nature, extreme compression tends to suck the high-end out of any signal, so Behringer added a tone compensation circuit to the BLE400. This dedicated Enhance control lets you dial in just the right amount of sparkle, without giving your bass that over-processed or brittle sound. This feature alone will make the BLE400 one of your favorite secret weapons!

The dedicated Level, Enhance, Ratio and Threshold controls provide easy and intuitive sound shaping. Just set the Ratio control for the amount of compression you want and adjust the Thresh(old) control to where you want the compressor to kick in. Then, turn the Level knob to match the volume of your bass when the effect is switched off. It's just that easy! A first-class electronic On/Off switch is provided for absolutely noise-free operation. The BLE400's top-mounted LED lets you know when it's on and also serves as a battery tester. And if you don't enjoy replacing 9 V batteries, using a PSU-SB DC power supply (not included).

  • Smoothes out harsh volume peaks when using dynamic slaps or other playing styles

I didn't buy it at MF, but I would prefer to review it here since I love MF so much. That and I would have bought it here, but Santa gave me a gift card to another retailer. So....

Well, I got it the day I had a party gig. I had a few minutes to fiddle with it, and got a good tone right away. So, I ended up gigging with it that night, and couldn't be more pleased. No tone suck that I could notice. My notes were more even, with good attack. I typically go through my BDI21 to my amp and/or direct to PA if needed. I put the BLE400 before the BDI, and it worked great. No noise even with some enhancer. I'm neither a pro nor a tone snob, but I do have a good ear. This little baby does what I needed to, and for dirt cheap. If it breaks, no biggie, I'll just buy another. I'm not a stomper, though - I put my pedals on top of my amp, and leave 'em on, and otherwise take care of my shtuff. It should last awhile - I've rarely had problems with my behringer gear. Very happy with the BLE400.

I read the reviews others had written. Some experiences were positive and others not so. It seems like the common complaint was noise.

Given the great price, I thought I would try this pedal. Unfortunately, I have so much noise with this pedal it is not useful. It was very difficult to discern how well the settings worked given the amount of noise.

(To be sure the noise originated from this pedal and not something else, I tried other pedals, guitars, line cords, and power supplies and found the only factor was using this Behringer pedal).

The pedal is made of plastic, but not a big deal for light use such as practicing at home.

The pedal does not come with a battery compartment nor power supply so there is an additional cost before one can use the pedal.

Comments about Behringer Bass Limiter Enhancer BLE400 Bass Effects Pedal:

I bought this for my Brother's bass, for live performances. I listened to his bass last weekend at a show and it really gives the bass guitar a lot more punch. Individual notes ring more solid and clear, rather than compressed, or boomy and muddled. Good bang for the buck on this one; our first Behringer product.

Comments about Behringer Bass Limiter Enhancer BLE400 Bass Effects Pedal:

This is a plastic unit, yes, but it should hold up if you don't use it for a trampoline. The battery compartment access is a little odd. The pedal sounds great! The hissing noise when turning the enhance knob that everyone talks about does occur, but it also occurs on my Tech21 Sansamp Bassdriver, the Boss limiter/enhancer that I have also. But if you need to turn the enhance that high, your settings elsewhere are wrong, IMHO. I love this pedal. And for the price, if it does break, I'll buy another!

Comments about Behringer Bass Limiter Enhancer BLE400 Bass Effects Pedal:

I tryed the boss Limiter Enhancer of a friend. I bought this one. It's cheaper than the boss. The only problem is that is plastic and you have to have a little extra care but I have care of my things. The other issue is that it is a little hissy when you pass the enhancer knob from the half but you can put down your treble a little bit and that's it. For the price I'm happy because this unit does the job well almost like my friend's boos unit and I saved money. I'm not a fan of the behringer products but this unit, the BDI21 and the Bass Synth are in the top of the line.

Comments about Behringer Bass Limiter Enhancer BLE400 Bass Effects Pedal:

I ordered this thing and it shipped to me not working. At first I thought it was the power supply which I had to buy separately. But after testing another power supply, and then trying a battery, I saw that it was completely dead and completely defective. The instructions are not helpful and mostly in Japanese. Tech support made me buy a (9V battery which was a waste of my time and money since I never use them and don't want to. So now I'm stuck with the battery. Now they want me to ship the thing back to them for repairs. I don't want to pay for this either, and if they finally call me back today then I will demand my money back. It's a real shame because I prefer the sound of this item to other bass limiter pedals (actually there is only one other that I know of), in a demonstration I saw on youtube, but I refuse to put up with this aggravation anymore. Do yourself a favor and don't buy any of these pedals if your time is available to you.

Comments about Behringer Bass Limiter Enhancer BLE400 Bass Effects Pedal:

Limiter - Compressor pedals are not WOW guitar effects, they're boring. What it does is level off the volume dynamics. Careful with the knobs, too much and you'll stifle the bang of your new set of roundwound strings.
With 4 adjustment knobs I'm able to get just the right shape to my bass sound. I use it differently for shaping different playing styles. The Level knob is great for raising the output of pickups, enabling overdrive distortion. The Enhance knob adds presence also good for overdrive distortion. The Ratio knob works to limit the volume dynamics, with the Thresh knob. I bought this mainly to tame the volume spikes of my Dunlop Bass Wah pedal. It helps that somewhat. The Level knob boosting low output pickups is great.

It's made of plastic.Plastic is fun. Metal is for cars. Would you want a metal telephone, remote control, or calculator? I prefer plastic. It's well made too. Sounds great. I keep mine off the floor. The floor is dirty. If you take care of it, it will last forever. Dedicated controls. Great sound shaping. Enhanced tone. You can't go wrong.
