I've owned this unit for over two years now.  I run it through a Trace Elliot amp and found it to be a better amp modeler than an effects unit, but I rarely use effects.  I rate it a 10 because of the bang-for-the-buck.  Some may find the effects adequate, (nothing is better than a dedicated pedal), but as a pre-amp, it is nothing short of awesome.  I get the sweetest tones from this thing.  Surprisingly, the Trace Elliot amp model sux through my Trace Elliot amp, but sounded great through my friend's SVT.  (Likewise, the SVT amp model sux through his SVT amp).  I highly recommend this unit to everyone.

I purchase this product a few years ago and have gotten the chance to take it through the paces. One thing I must encourage to also invest in if you are an tour/active musician is a portable rack mount the company Gator makes some nice ones. This will protect the device when traveling. The materials they used for the knobs aren't very strong. The sound you get from this device is up to you. It very customizable; so tweak away. I use a Fender Bassman combo with the Bass V-amp also the FCB1010 with the Vamprom install when I to local pub gigs. When I do larger shows I save my setting and all the above except be Bassman. It well worth the time to read the manual cover to cover and understand the device so you can enjoy your purchase fully.

I bought this guy a few weeks ago because i needed a new pre-amp for my Bass, i just wasn't getting the sound i wanted to get out of the equipment i had at the time.  So i bought this guy from here at Musicians Friend, and when it arrived all i had to do was rack mount it, plug it in, spin some knobs to find that deep huge bass sound i wanted, and within seconds i was ready to rock.  If your a bass player who is not one of these 'tone guys' and your looking for something that sounds killer with little effort or knowledge about reverbs, compressors and such, this is the pre-amp for you! And for you tone people, this pre-amp allows you to really dial in that tone and effect your going for, the system navigation is fairly intuitive, once you get a feel for the buttons.

A great deal even at twice the price

I bought the Bass V-amp 3 years ago. Since then I have reviewed several similar products extensively and have concluded that the V-amp is probably the best product for the money based on features, sound, construction and overall usability. The downsides I have experienced were a memory loss on several occasions. This was remedied by simply replacing the battery and making sure that the battery holder is tight with good contact to prevent the battery from shifting during occasional bumps. For the past 30 years I have owned every gadget from stomp and rack units to bass guitar synthesizers, so what I look for in a device like this are: clean sound, a versatile tone shaping capability, programmability and very important?(MIDI) all in a rack mounted package. I wish more companies would follow that format? some do but not much. I also bought the FCB-1010 for the V-Bass and it makes the unit perform very well. Another thing buyers may want to investigate is that there are user websites that discuss the V-Bass exclusively with a lot of great tips. Bottom line, a great unit even at twice the price.

I recently purchased this amp modeler/preamp and I am pleasantly surprised with its effectiveness and sound quality. Bass effects are almost useless to me, but I get such a good sound with this unit, I can't help be to use it. The only problem I have with the unit is that you are only able to run one effect at a time.
