OVERVIEW

There are DI boxes and then there's the BDI21—the feature-packed analog DI box built especially for bass.

The BDI21 combines the features of an active DI (direct injection) box with our proprietary tube emulation circuitry. It’s like having a truckload of vintage tube amps right at your toes! The Blend control allows you to mix the amount of tube emulation you want with your direct bass signal. And if you don’t want to use the tube emulation feature, just step on the switch and the ADI21 functions as a superb active DI box.

With its dedicated DRIVE, TREBLE, BASS, LEVEL, and PRESENCE dials, the BDI21 DI box goes above and beyond, giving you vintage tube tones for some funked-up slap, gonzo overdrive and everything in-between. You can use the BDI21 as a recording output DI, with tube emulation, or as a standard active DI box, when running in bypass mode. The output is laid out on 1/4" TS or balanced, gold-plated XLR connectors. There's also a ground lift switch that eliminates typical ground loop hum problems. You can power this bad boy with a 9V battery or our PSU-SB DC power supply (not included).

When it comes to DI boxes, you can go with simple injection, or plug into the BDI21 to add some badass tube-like fuel injection to your bass.

FEATURES
  • Analog modeling bass preamp/stompbox with DI recording output
  • Designed to compete head to head with leading products on the market
  • Authentic V-TONE modeling technology capable of dialing up big vintage tube tones, funky slap sounds, crunchy distortions and all in between
  • Provides a truckload of great amps in a single stomp box—from traditional bass amps to modern overdriven amp tones that would typically require a multitude of effects units
  • Authentic tube emulation circuitry can be mixed with the direct bass signal via blend control

Comments about Behringer BDI21 V-Tone Bass Driver Bass Amp Modeler/Direct Recording Preamp/DI Box Pedal:

I got this thing to DI bass into a board for home jams (see jamhub) and recording. This thing does a great job of emulating a nice bass amp tone. The switch seems delicate, but it wont be a problem because the dry signal sounds terrible, so it'll always be on. Great value, to get better sound quality you'd have to spend 4-5x the cost of this unit. FYI it does NOT come with a power supply.

Comments about Behringer BDI21 V-Tone Bass Driver Bass Amp Modeler/Direct Recording Preamp/DI Box Pedal:

I was able to dial in a decent bass tone with little fuss right away. Fattened up the tone on my little practice amp. I plan to use the mic out for a mixer for rehearsals and/or shows, but I haven't tried it out yet. The unbalanced out sounded pretty good through the amp, though. The blend knob add some noise when dimed - need to back off on it a bit. I had an SA guitar pedal back in the day, but was never able to get a good guitar tone out of it. I can't speak to the guitar version of this pedal, but I'm like the BDI so far.

I agree with others that the switch is questionable. Feels too much like it switches via transistor and not at the switch (if that makes sense), and takes some pressure to engage, which worries me. I would prefer a good old fashioned standard DPDT, or whatever. But handwired these are not. Not a biggie, but I won't be switching much if I don't have to.

Fairly easy to use. Although, the instructions are minimal. In fact, the included instructions were better suited for the guitar version (illustrations has all the mic settings - like the tech21 pedal - which are not included on the bass BDI). Overall, a good buy. Does it needs to do without minimal tweaking, and low cost. Winner!

This is a great little DI and Amp especially for the price. I got the mellow Bass sound I was looking for. No hiss or hum. Lots of features in one little compact box.

Comments about Behringer BDI21 V-Tone Bass Driver Bass Amp Modeler/Direct Recording Preamp/DI Box Pedal:

Behringer is definitely an entry level product, This particular piece however, is below that. Yes it will color your sound, and yes it will make your bass louder, as well as increasing the hiss in the signal chain... Wildly. The "level" knob is useless. If you turn it up at all your bass rig will start to REALLY HISS, but the bass tone seems to stay the same. I tried all of my basses through it.. Same result. I took it back the next day. I like Behringer products. They are cheap and for the most part, do the job. This one is just TOO NOISY. This pedal should be called an EQ, With a HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Booster.

Comments about Behringer BDI21 V-Tone Bass Driver Bass Amp Modeler/Direct Recording Preamp/DI Box Pedal:

I needed an inexpensive bass amp solution for our church setup. I run the XLR into the board and the 1/4" into a keyboard amp as a stage monitor. Great sound live and it comes across nicely in the recordings too. Excellent tool for the price tag. I'm looking forward to using it in my home studio. My next purchase is the ADI21 for my acoustic.

For fun I plugged my electric guitar into it. I cranked the gain and set the tone controls at noon and it produced a pretty cool vintage tone. It won't replace your vintage Bassman, but it would work nicely for a home jam session.

Pick this thing up. It's a bargain!
