Add amazing impact to your tone and provide endless sustain.

The Behringer CS400 COMPRESSOR/SUSTAINER CS400 effects pedal is an affordable way to add some serious finesse to your playing. Dynamics play an important role in music. They help to convey emotion, whether it’s a sultry blues solo or the unrelenting gallop of unfettered metal. But uncontrolled dynamics can take all your best intentions and turn them into mush. That’s where the Behringer CS400 comes in, softening loud sounds and boosting low signal levels to keep everything more uniform.

Ever notice how some strings on your guitar or bass sound louder than others? This is partly due to physics. Strings with lower mass just don’t put out as much volume as the heavier ones. When used properly, a compressor makes all of the strings the same volume. Compressors are also great for slap-style bass players, making thumb slaps, string pulls and muted notes all the same volume, for an extremely percussive effect.

The CS400 COMPRESSOR/SUSTAINER is easy to use. You can dial in the right amount of compression using the dedicated Attack and Sustain dials. The Level control allows you to set the output to subtle, or engage a monster volume boost. Tone lets you add exactly the right level of highs. From clean, snappy country leads to rock solos that scream for eons, the CS400 is built to make your sound the center of attention. Its LED tells you when it's on, and the top-quality on/off switch maintains outstanding signal integrity in bypass mode. You can power this scene-stealer with either a 9 V battery or our PSU-SB DC power supply (not included).

Features

  • Compress loud and bosst low signals without degrading the original sound
  • Dedicated Level, Tone, Attack and Sustain controls
  • Blue status LED
  • First-class electronic On/Off switch for highest signal integrity in bypass mode
  • Rugged construction ensures long life

This is a low cost but great sounding compressor pedal for guitar.I have two other compressor pedals (as well as two rack compressors) that both cost more than three times what this Behringer pedal cost but I like this one better. It just does the job without adding noise or coloration to the guitars tone. I have been playing pro for 40 years now and have been through many pedals, amps and guitars in that time. Fortunately I got over the "fancy name brand only" stigma that many people still have and just look for something that is cost effective and just does the job. This compressor is a great example. My set up is my Les Paul or Epiphone Sheraton into the Behringer pedal then out to my old Dunlop Wah pedal to a BBE Sonic Stomp (also a great product) into a VOX VT30 amp mic'd to the PA with a Shure SM58. (Although there is a decent compressor built into the effects section of the VOX VT30 I like the Behringer better.)
If you are looking for quality sound at a great price buy the Behringer pedal. (Don't buy the Behringer DC9 compressor pedal. I bought that one first. It colors your tone noticbly and compresses the signal way too much and makes your tone thin and weak,)

Comments about Behringer CS400 Compressor/Sustainer Guitar Effects Pedal:

Bought this on a whim before one of those Best Buy music stores closed down for even cheaper than this price. I don't get any noise from the pedal. If you buy this pedal and get signal hum, it's probably got a bad capacitor, so exchange it.

This is a clone of the CS-3 from Boss. It's not made of metal but cheap plastic. Please don't gig with this thing thinking you can slam your foot on it, cause it's probably gonna break.

For the money, best compressor you can buy. 4star since its build quality isn't great, but come on, its behringer, what do you expect?

Comments about Behringer CS400 Compressor/Sustainer Guitar Effects Pedal:

Right out of the box the compressor worked great. It's perfect for adding volume and sustain for driving leads on rock and long holding notes on slow songs.
The price is amazing and it has no latent noise. I had a Boss compressor that had latent noise issues. This one is a a quarter the price with better sound and comparable features.

Comments about Behringer CS400 Compressor/Sustainer Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is not for everyone. I mean it does the job very well and that is all. The attack and sustain controls are touchy; micro-touches bring macro-changes. The tone control is a broadband sweep find the sweet spot and don't touch it. So if you're a set it and forget it; this pedal is for you. If you're a knob twister, one that has more acute control might be for you.

Comments about Behringer CS400 Compressor/Sustainer Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal seems to be incapable of producing clean sustain. I've tried adjusting each control a little at a time, because I know how sensitive compressor/sustainers are. No matter what settings I use, there's always an annoying buzz to the notes I play, like an old Maestro Fuzztone. Unless I have a major breakthrough, I'll be sending this back.

I read many negative reviews on this product that went like," OMG, it's made of PLASTIC!! If I jump up and down on it over and over it may BREAK!" Well, DUH! I don't plan on jumping on it at all. The quality of sound produced by this product is equal to that of products costing a lot more. It seems to be very sturdy, it does the job it was designed to do, and does it very well. And since I don't plan on pounding on it with a hammer...
