OVERVIEW

Add amazing impact to your tone and provide endless sustain.

The Behringer CS400 COMPRESSOR/SUSTAINER CS400 effects pedal is an affordable way to add some serious finesse to your playing. Dynamics play an important role in music. They help to convey emotion, whether it's a sultry blues solo or the unrelenting gallop of unfettered metal. But uncontrolled dynamics can take all your best intentions and turn them into mush. That's where the Behringer CS400 comes in, softening loud sounds and boosting low signal levels to keep everything more uniform.

Ever notice how some strings on your guitar or bass sound louder than others? This is partly due to physics. Strings with lower mass just don't put out as much volume as the heavier ones. When used properly, a compressor makes all of the strings the same volume. Compressors are also great for slap-style bass players, making thumb slaps, string pulls and muted notes all the same volume, for an extremely percussive effect.

The CS400 COMPRESSOR/SUSTAINER is easy to use. You can dial in the right amount of compression using the dedicated Attack and Sustain dials. The Level control allows you to set the output to subtle, or engage a monster volume boost. Tone lets you add exactly the right level of highs. From clean, snappy country leads to rock solos that scream for eons, the CS400 is built to make your sound the center of attention. Its LED tells you when it's on, and the top-quality on/off switch maintains outstanding signal integrity in bypass mode. You can power this scene-stealer with either a 9 V battery or our PSU-SB DC power supply (not included).

FEATURES
  • Compress loud and bosst low signals without degrading the original sound
  • Dedicated Level, Tone, Attack and Sustain controls
  • Blue status LED
  • First-class electronic On/Off switch for highest signal integrity in bypass mode
  • Rugged construction ensures long life

This is a low cost but great sounding compressor pedal for guitar.I have two other compressor pedals (as well as two rack compressors) that both cost more than three times what this Behringer pedal cost but I like this one better. It just does the job without adding noise or coloration to the guitars tone. I have been playing pro for 40 years now and have been through many pedals, amps and guitars in that time. Fortunately I got over the "fancy name brand only" stigma that many people still have and just look for something that is cost effective and just does the job. This compressor is a great example. My set up is my Les Paul or Epiphone Sheraton into the Behringer pedal then out to my old Dunlop Wah pedal to a BBE Sonic Stomp (also a great product) into a VOX VT30 amp mic'd to the PA with a Shure SM58. (Although there is a decent compressor built into the effects section of the VOX VT30 I like the Behringer better.)
If you are looking for quality sound at a great price buy the Behringer pedal. (Don't buy the Behringer DC9 compressor pedal. I bought that one first. It colors your tone noticbly and compresses the signal way too much and makes your tone thin and weak,)

well sometimes something cheap is worth it but this one of those time that it is not I will keep it so that when my friend come over i'll let them use it so I sound better playing guitar LOL the sustainer does give some sustain but the attack is useless on the pedal you can have it all the way turn up or down no difference so anyway I would not recommend it to a friend until he try's mine then they can decide for them selves

Comments about Behringer CS400 Compressor/Sustainer Guitar Effects Pedal:

I am not 100% sure about this pedal yet, on clean it seems to introduce some distortion (maybe that's how a sustain pedal works) For some stuff it works great, others no so much. I don't have anything to compare it to, however for the cost of the unit its cheap enough if you don't like it to keep it around for something else.

Comments about Behringer CS400 Compressor/Sustainer Guitar Effects Pedal:

Really good value! Quickly dialed in great sounds. For the cost, there is none better. I had a unit costing 4X the price of this one and this one sounds better. Works well to add a slight punch to an overdrive tube amp.
I have a tube head that sounded a little flat and added this. Wow.
    Definitely would recommend this pedal.

use it just to add a little compression to an acoustic guitar on stage... not the greatest build but for about 1/5 the price of the nearest similar pedal, it's a great buy....

Comments about Behringer CS400 Compressor/Sustainer Guitar Effects Pedal:

This does exactly what a compressor is supposed to do. It has a really good range & sound. Great pedal for a low cost. Perfect for anyone on a budget...OR NOT! It is plastic but is very durable. It's fine for normal use but I do not stomp on my pedals like an elephant or mule. I use it 2-3 per week on stage & it is fine. Don't be afraid of this pedal. I have 2 Behringer pedals mixed with other brands & I really like them.

Comments about Behringer CS400 Compressor/Sustainer Guitar Effects Pedal:

Seems to do a good job of compressing the sound. Great for the price. This is a pedial I have on most all the time while playing. It will run through a battery pretty fast and you get a fuzzy distorted sound when the battery starts to run down even though the power/battery level light appears bright. I would recomend conection to another power supply. Since this in an effect you would have on all the time i see no reason this pedeal would not last a long time.

Comments about Behringer CS400 Compressor/Sustainer Guitar Effects Pedal:

Pretty decent pedal. The decent compression and sustain happens when the attack, sustain and level knobs are more than half up. Otherwise it doesn't really change much. I hear complaints about the construction but these are solid. There's a metal base to add some weight to it and the plastic used isn't flimsy and thin; it feels dense and unless you were stomping on the knobs I don't see how you could damage it.

Comments about Behringer CS400 Compressor/Sustainer Guitar Effects Pedal:

I cannot believe that a compressor for this amount of money works as well as it does! -- Just does it's thing, without any unusual noise. (which I used to get out of my Boss compressor - which died.)
Other than the housing that is made of plastic, I don't see any negative things about this pedal.
I use this mainly at home, and usually always have it turned on, and leave it on, so I think the plastic housing issue will not have any effect on my use.
