OVERVIEW

If the meat and potatoes of rock is to your liking, you'll live happily ever after with all the timeless tone in this impressive little stompbox.

It doesn't get much more classic than the Behringer Tube Overdrive TO100. Unlike the heavily saturated distortion sounds found in most metal and hard rock pedals, this little dirt box produces the harmonic grind that occurs naturally when a tube amp is cranked up nice and loud. The TO100 is extremely versatile and ultra-responsive.

With its simple Drive, Tone and Level dials, you can harness any degree of overdrive--from slightly dirty to hot and crunch! The blue LED tells you when it's activated, and the durable on/off switch maintains crystal-clear signal integrity in bypass mode.

FEATURES
  • Tube-like distortion, smooth sustain and super fat tone
  • Captures every nuance of your playing
  • Dedicated Drive, Tone and Level controls
  • Status LED
  • Runs on 9V battery or the Behringer PSU-SB DC power supply
  • First-class electronic on/off switch

If the essence of rock is what you seek, then call or click to pick up the TO100.

..and because it is made of plastic, stomping on it with my full body weight and kicking it across the room is not a good idea. But I do not do that with my expensive boutique pedals that cost three figures so why is that the issue everybody fixates on. A bit of care is required when using. The second item that I have read that other users complain about is also and easy fix. A DC power supply (sourced from electronic supply store) solves the puzzle box battery replacement problem (I haven't even tried to put a battery in it). This pedal has a pleasant, musical, useful over driven sound. I like my more expensive better but there is no comparison. This one cost me a fraction of those pedals. It is not as rich and detailed in sound quality but that does not detract from the obvious reason to purchase it. Everything on it works. It still has some heft to it and is pretty solid. The on/off foot switch only requires a little pressure to activate the effect and in some cases, I might just leave it engaged (to "dirty up" a solid state amp that is pretty "vanilla") in most applications. It should last for years with some forethought and care.

I plan to keep it as a "grab and go" addition to the other items already in the guitar gig bag. To me it is the no stress alternative to taking.

I have a number of Behringer pedals as their price point has allowed me to experiment with which pedals I needed after getting my first tube amp. I have a number of OD pedals but priced less than 2 Happy Meals it was worth a roll of the dice.

There is good news and bad news. First the bad- The knobs on this pedal are more wobbly than other Behringer pedals I own. They function fine, but add to the cheap feel of the pedal. Also, this thing is a juice hog. My NiMH 9v batteries only last for about 20 minutes before requiring swap out. Compared to all my other pedals this is a very short time. I recommend you have a 9v power supply or external battery connector of some kind.

The good news- This thing sounds fantastic. I have a EHX Soul Food, a Boss OD-2, a Digitech Screamin' Blues pedal and a Behringer VT911 as well as the TO100. The Behringer TO100 is that OD pedal that can take an SS amp (or tube) right to the edge of breakup without a lot of sound coloration. It won't take you into distortion like my other pedals, but I don't think it was meant to be a fuzz.

No, it isn't rock solid like a Boss or other boutique pedal. But I paid nine washingtons for it and it's well worth that amount of money. If you're new to pedals and you want to see what an OD does, this is a cheap way to get into it.

I would love to get it side by side with an Ibanez Tube Screamer, but that's for another day.

Comments about Behringer TO100 Tube Overdrive Guitar:

Really has the classic tube overdrive sound I was looking for. This is not a distortion pedal. If you want metal crunch this is not for you. If you are looking for the classic blues/ rock overdrive this pedal delivers at a give away price. Construction is all plastic, but if you treat it with care it will hold up.

I got this pedal on sale and sure, it has a hard plastic case but I'm not jumping on it and it sounds great. At the sale price I did not know what to expect but ended up loving it. Has a good tone to it with humbuckers or single coils and provides the gain I like. Go get one - you'll see. And if for some reason you don't like it, you're only out less than the cost of a cable.

You have to take into account that the purchase price was very low making it a great value I was very pleased with the sound quality. It's a blast to run with a reverb or chorus effect, giving it a cool old school metal sound. I couldn't be happier

Comments about Behringer TO100 Tube Overdrive Guitar:

This is by far the best sounding overdrive pedal I have used. It mimics the Ibanez TS-9 to a 'T', but at a fraction of the cost. The build quality isn't the greatest (knobs seem flimsy), but at the sale price you cant go wrong. I bought two just because. Added to your amps built in overdrive gives that added boost without harshness to the sound change. Behringer came through for me once again.

I am happy with this effect pedal, it has a nice warm overdrive sound. Can't beat it for the price and it sounds as good as a more expensive overdrive pedal from a different manufacturer.

I can't praise this pedal high enough. I compared it side by side with my Boss Blues Driver and it actually sounds better. Yes, the case is plastic BUT a very tough plastic. The controls do wobble a bit as stated by another poster but I believe they are shock mounted and supposed to do that. I owned an Ibanez Chorus that was the same way and in the specs it stated that thay were designed to absorb shock. I liked the TO100 pedal so much I immediately ordered a second one and two of the UT100 tremolo pedals which sound identical to my Boss TR-2. Same or better sound at one tenth the price. A no-brainer. What are you waiting for?
