OVERVIEW

A formidable, no-nonsense practice amp with tube modeling.

For the guitarist who already has a toolbox-full of their favorite effects gadgets, the VT15CD guitar combo amp has all the features of Behringer's VT15FX, except the onboard effects. With a Clean channel, as well as an Overdrive channel with 3-band EQ, the VT15CD is all about tone!

Where Are the Tubes?
Ask any guitarist what they want most from an amp and they’ll answer with a single word: tone. That quest for tone drove Behringer to develop the VIRTUBE family of amplifiers. Their proprietary VTC (Virtual Tube Circuitry) gives these amazing amps their in-your-face tube-amp tone. Amps with such rich, harmonic character and buttery tube-like goodness, you’ll wonder where they hid the tubes.

Revolutionary VTC Technology
The secret behind VIRTUBE’s incredible sound is Behringer's VTC Tube Modeling processor, which exudes the very essence of tube saturation and compression. But VTC does so much more than just generate a cheap copy of a specific amp character. It accurately emulates the interaction between classic tube stages, responding to the subtle tonal changes that occur when one stage hands the signal off the next. The resulting signal is rich in harmonic content and far more true to the nature of tube amps.

Two-Channel Operation
VIRTUBE’s Clean channel is elegant in its simplicity. The sound is open and uncolored and can be tailored to your needs by Volume and the analog passive equalizer. The Overdrive channel features Gain, Volume, Bass, Treble and Behringer's proprietary Contour control, with its radical midrange sweep. All this versatility enables you to artfully define your perfect tone, from traditional to scooped modern and anything in-between.

Handmade Speakers
It takes a special speaker to handle all this incredible technology, tube-like tone and brutal output power. That’s why Behringer outfitted the Virtube VT15CD with an 8" handmade, heavy-duty Bugera Vintage Guitar speaker. Custom-designed and handcrafted specifically for the VIRTUBE Series, it's ideally suited for classic sound reproduction.

Get Connected
Whether you’re recording or just jamming on your latest riff, you need the right connections, and the Virtube VT15CD combo really has you covered. The PHONES/LINE OUT B jack is much more than just a place for your headphones to call home. As the name implies, this jack can also be used to send your guitar signal, with speaker simulation, to another amp or mixer.* When the PHONES/ LINE OUT B jack is in use, the internal loudspeaker is muted, allowing you to crank your guitar into the wee morning hours, without bothering the neighbors. If you’d like to play along with previously recorded tracks, just plug the output of your CD/Tape/mp3 deck into the CD IN/LINE OUT A jack. This jack also serves a second purpose, providing yet another Line Out, this time without speaker simulation.*

* Note: Use a standard 1/4" TS cable to connect this linelevel signal to the destination device. If a hum is detected, or the cable run is more than a few feet, you may get better results using a Direct Injection box, like our DI100 or DI20.

A lovely little amp, with very clean design and electronics. First thing I did when I took it out of the box and plugged it in to power was set the volume to maximum and listen, with nothing going in and the overdrive off. Silence was my reward, which is what you expect - no buzz, no hum, no nothing. That reflects the quality of the wiring, of course.

Next I switched on the overdrive, and got a nice solid sound of white noise that you'd expect. Turned that off, shut down the power, and got out my Oscar Schmidt/Washburn OU2E Concert Uke and plugged it in. Turned the amp back on, set all the relevant nobs to 5, and started playing. The sound was clean and lovely. Cranked the volume up to ten, and it was clean, lovely and loud. Switched on the VTC and it added breadth and warmth to the sound - very nice tube modelling for an amp in this bracket. Turned on the overdrive and immediately had to turn down the OD gain and volume because, after all, it's an acoustic instrument and started to feed back 'cause I was pointed at the amp... but once I got the levels down it was clear that the overdrive would be a nice alternative sound.

So that got me to pull out my Peavy G-model electric guitar, and the sound was consistently good. Plenty of volume, with the kind of control you'd expect from a straight-up "clean" amp, with no distortion even cranked up.

Summary: the 8" Bugera speaker and typically good Behringer electronics shine in this compact, inexpensive amp, very suitable for home studio, practice and light performance use.

This is a fine amp if you need something light, portable for practice. Sound quality is average; hard to get the same clarity that I get from bigger, more expensive amps, so takes a bit of work to re-EQ guitar sounds to be acceptable. My goal was to have something portable for practices only, so it meets that need. I would not use this for any professional work or recording.

Comments about Behringer VIRTUBE VT15CD 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amplifier:

I bought this amp for my 12 year old Nephew as a Christmas present. He stayed over during the New Year's Eve weekend, so we spent quite a bit of time playing guitars. I was pleasantly surprised by the clean and semi-clean tones I got from this amp. I could pull off some great "Riviera Paradise" tones with my Strat. The distortion channel was about average for amps like these. But it kept my Nephew happy while he was banging out AC/DC and Metallica chords.

One feature I really liked was the Virtube circuit. It takes the amp from a sterile, typical solid state amp, and fattens up and adds warmth to it. Not like adding gain, but it really does give a tube presence to the tone.

I've been helping my Brother-in-law build a recording studio, and I can see this amp being used in it for some tracks. A very nice amp, and when you consider its paltry price, it's a no-brainer!

This is a very nice amp but I have never owned an amp before this. For my first amp it really gets the job done, it sounds awesome, and for the price you couldn't find a better deal. I have also bought an Epiphone Les Paul Special II and with the amp it sounds great. You could play various songs from Dust in the Wind to Crazy Train and it sounds much like the original songs. I strongly recommend buying this amp because I could not have been happier with my purchase.

Very good clean sound. Virtube gives it a nice warmth.
The overdrive is too harsh. The gain needs to be dialed way down. Unless your into heavy metal forget the overdrive channel.
