Surprisingly compact, astoundingly powerful and responsive.

The 15W Blackheart Handsome Devil Tube Amp Head was designed and prototyped in a one-car garage in Austin, Texas by none other than amp savant, Pyotr Belov. The BH15H Handsome Devil amp evokes classic tube tones more than reminiscent of the great American and British amplifiers - the plug and play workhorses that laid the foundation for rock 'n' roll guitar tone starting in the '60s. Just like its predecessor and little brother, the Little Giant 5, the BHE Handsome Devil is overbuilt to last with features and components you'd expect on a hand-built, much more expensive amplifier.

Features dual power modes allowing the gods of rock to dial in responsiveness and headroom in either 15W or 7W output. Separate Master and Level controls put both awesome power and responsibility in the unwashed hands of mankind. 3 Bands of well-tuned EQ make for nearly infinite voicing. From big fat overdrive to plucky, just-about-to-squeal if you hit me a little harder grease, the Handsome Devil covers classic tube tone with as few knob turns as possible through a well thought out set of features in a tank-tough package.

As expected, you get the simple elegance and robust component specs that mark BHE's designs. From 1W, carbon-film resistors in the signal path to beefy, double sided pcb with 2 oz. traces, 16 gauge, precision folded and welded chassis and mutli-ply, classically joined cabinetry, Blackheart is as serious about quality as they are about tone.

    Perfect Practice/Gig Amp

    By Caryn Skopec

    from Florida

Comments about Blackheart BH15H Handsome Devil Series 15W Tube Amp Head:

    Smokin' amp.
You will hear what you have been trying to get with all the pedals, without the pedals.

Very versitle, great for practice in 7 watt mode, gigging in 15 watt mode.

I play clubs and parties mainly, so I don't want earsplitting stage volume.
I get just the right amount of stage volume through a 2X12, and can get real tube
overdrive, sustain and warmth without relying on pedals to simulate the real thing.

But it does pedals just fine, and I do use reverb, delay, overdrive, fuzz...all good.
Playing mostly covers requires some variety of sounds.
For overdrive and distortion, just turn down the gain a bit and crank the main volume,
use your guitar volume and you are set.

I've played a lot of expensive junk these days, this amp is just the opposite.
I now have two and both are my favorite pieces of gear.
Obviously a well received amp by almost every person who has tried it.
I'm just putting my qiuck two cents in.

    Built like a tank. Compact.
Classic, beautiful looks. Badge is 3-D and very cool.
Perfect for practice in pentode, giging in triode.
    4, 8 and 16 ohm outs.
    Work of art.
    Solid.
    Heavy duty.
    Excellent value, priced right.

    Well Worth The Money

    By GJM

Comments about Blackheart BH15H Handsome Devil Series 15W Tube Amp Head:

I recently purchased this amplifier and I could not be happier. I was in the market for a new amplifier and the choices were mind-boggling. I was considering a few different solid state units, but really wanted a tube head, and eventually wound up with this one. I had read many reviews about the Handsome Devil and almost all were positive, so in the end, I purchased it because it was in my price range and fit the bill for what I wanted. I have it mated to a Crate FW120 4x12 slant cab and my main workhorse/practice guitar is a Jay Turser Telecaster copy, and it sounds really good through this amp. The construction is very solid, the product is very attractive, and it is a no-frills easy-to-use tube head with all the typical things you would expect in a head of this type. It has settings for bass, mid, and treble while also having an adjustment for drive and presence. Other than being switchable from 7W to 15W, that's pretty much all you get. And it's really all you need to get a lot of great sounds you want. I am using the 16 ohm setting on my cab and head and I am VERY pleased with the results. On the 7W setting you get a good clean tone, but flip it over to 15W and crank the drive and you get a great, thick, warm growl that just makes you want to keep playing. The only downside with this amp I can see is that it really just isn't loud enough to be played in a medium to large venue without being mic'd up. After all, it's only 15W. But if you are playing small venues or even medium sized clubs, it will put out all you would need for most situations as long as you have a decent cab of some type. This amp is really well suited to playing blues and classic rock or any type of music where you are looking for a good overdrive sound without a tremendous amount of distortion. Where this amp really shines is in the mid and high tones, they are crisp, solid, and very pronounced. The bass area is a little light, it could be heavier, but it gets the job done. If your band has a bassist you're all set, if not and you carry the bass tones as a rhythm player you might be a little disappointed as the mid and treble will easily outshine the bass tones. The drive will not get as wild or fuzzy as a Marshall but seems to have a warmer and richer sound even cranked all the way. With the construction of this head, I expect that it will last a long time and will be reliable. Blackheart has a reputation for making high quality equipment, and based on my experience I would say that it's true. If you are in the market for a solid, predictable, warm sounding tube head with moderate to good output and you don't need or want a modeling head or a lot of preset effects, look at this unit. I don't think you'd be disappointed. Try it. If you do, you'll probably end up buying it because for the sound you get and what you'll pay, this thing is certainly hard to beat. Good job, Blackheart.

    Great little amp!

    By Dr. Hobbitstein

Comments about Blackheart BH15H Handsome Devil Series 15W Tube Amp Head:

This amp is pretty great for what you pay. I've played on mine for over a year now with no issues (plus I've done some mods). The build is quite good, but it could use a standby switch. It's a great little toy. Yes, a toy, albeit a GREAT toy, it's a toy amp nonetheless. I have actively gigged with it for the year that I've owned it (I prefer low wattage amps on stage and in the studio), but I find it lacking a bit in the gain and dynamics department. Once you crank this thing, it's not very touch sensitive, and compresses a great deal. I usually ran it dimed, and used a tube screamer or a big muff pi for leads. I'm now playing through an 18watt Phaez SIBLY (google Phaez Amps, hand made one at a time in Canada), and it blows this amp away, and it was only $150 more. More dynamics, very touch sensitive, and LOADS more gain. The HD has now been relegated to talk box detail, which it does perfectly with no extra pedals (gotta love speaker distortion). All in all, a great amp. A great first tube amp for a beginner, and a nice low wattage amp for the studio/club.

    Great Little Amp

    By Thor

    from California's beautiful central coast

Comments about Blackheart BH15H Handsome Devil Series 15W Tube Amp Head:

I'm diggin' this amp. It's my first tube amp and I just love the warm sound that comes out of this thing. I run it through the matching cabinet and have also used it through the 2 12's in my old Crate GX130C combo. Both sound great. It has given me new love for my PRS SE EG. Then I added the Bitmo D-Verb and Dapper Devil mods and it went from great to excellent. While I was doing the mods I took a good look at the chassis, electronic and cabinet construction. It's all solid. Plus mine came with JJ tubes installed. I totally recommend it for people seeking a tube amp on a budget.Disclaimer---The Bitmo mods will void the warranty but they are worth it in my opinion. Plus, Blackheart's website has a link to Bitmo so they must think highly of them as well.

Comments about Blackheart BH15H Handsome Devil Series 15W Tube Amp Head:

Ok first I would like to say that I am very impressed with Blackheart amps!! And for those of you that say or think you can't gig with this amp either you do not have any idea of what you are doing or you are new to playing is all I can say. I have been playing guitar for over 20yrs and this amp is very gig worthy!! I bought this amp with 2 blackheart 12" speaker cabs and the little giant with 1 12" speaker cab at the same time and all I can say is it will hold its own with any Marshall, Randall,Crate, Fender etc 4-12 cabnit any day of the week!! I use the little giant when I just want to work on writing some new riffs but I use the handsomedevil with 2 12" cabs for practice ang gigging and it rocks the house I have used it in medium to large venues with no problmes mic'ed and un mic'ed no problems. I own several other amps from peavey, marshall, and crate and I love them all but blackheart hands down is the best deal and a great sounding amp. So far everyone that has seen me playing through it or has come to my studio and jammed on one has loved it. I play everything from southern rock to metallica through this amp. I have run all kinds of effects through it and the sounds great so just buy it you will be glad you did!!!And thanks for all of you that have written great revues on this amp It helped me make my choice and I am glad I did!!!!

An affordable amp you can gig with.

    By RoonDogg

Comments about Blackheart BH15H Handsome Devil Series 15W Tube Amp Head:

I've had this amp with the 1 x 12 cab for about a year and used it for practice only.....until about 3 months ago. This amp is amazing! Nice warm tone and enough power to rock a small to medium venue ( if you mic it). I usually play my Tele through it but recently started using my Les Paul. I get a great range from SRV tones to AC/DC tones. I also use my blues driver at times and it will produce some amazing distortion. Bottom line... If you want an affordable tube amp with great tones, light weight, and durable this is the amp to buy. I gig with this amp all the time now.

The Wee Beastie That Could !

    By White Beard

    from North Carolina

Comments about Blackheart BH15H Handsome Devil Series 15W Tube Amp Head:

I bought this little beast about a month or so ago..I am using it paired up with an OLD Sears Silvertone open back cab with 2 Blackwidow speakers nestled in it's ancient confines. It sure3 amazed the heck outta me! The Silvertone Amp I have just starts to ooze a tube sound at about half volume and it gets a bit better as the volume is cranked. The BLACKHEART head gets the groove on as soon as I start it up! It seems to issue controlable sound as soon as it warms up, no matter what the volume level is. With the controls it has bestowed upon it, there seems to be no one spot that is bad. Every volume level is controlable, or so it appears to me. I have had this for only a month or two, as stated before, and I plan on using it a heck of a lot longer. It also gives me the ability to re-wire the old Silvertone..although I probably won't ever plug it back up again !

Great amp to voice for HARP!

    By d0Hqk._VL

    from San Luis Obispo, CA

Comments about Blackheart BH15H Handsome Devil Series 15W Tube Amp Head:

I got a great buy on my BH-15H head w/12" speaker cab. Got it barely used from a hobbyist that had overbought on gear.Looking at specs before buying, I could see the possibilities for a decent to great harp amp at a good price.Sure enough, the Chinese tubes were WAY too bright for my purposes. I pulled all, and after some experimentaion used NOS RCA 6BQ5's, then put in triple mica GE 6201's ( milspec 12AT7's ) in the pre-amp slots.Mellow, Chicago sound with just enough gain before breakup and NO feedback! The pentode/triode switch is terrific! At 7W, has that warm Big Walter fatness. At 15W, sounds most like Butterfield I am aware of.I also modded the interior speaker cab to "round the corners" with insulation and installed a beam blocker. No need to flip speakers, then. The lack of features is actually preferable for harp players, although reverb would be nice.

a lot of power in a little box

    By fidfad87

    from syracuse, ny

Comments about Blackheart BH15H Handsome Devil Series 15W Tube Amp Head:

i've had this head for 4 or 5 days now. my solid state behringer fried and it was time for a tube. the blackheart seemed like the best deal. i'm running it through a kustom 4x12 with celestions and it sounds pretty great. what i like is that it's simple, not many frills. just what i wanted. it's got the standard bass, mid and treble frequency knobs along with presence, drive, and of course volume. i recommend running a pedal to it to acheive the real tone you want, but it's got that tube sound that solid state amps just can't get. there's also a switch to go from 7v to 15v which is a very nice feature. if you've never had a tube head, spend the extra 50-100 bucks and get this one.
