High-gain tube power that you can use at home.

Part of their HT Metal Series, the Blackstar HT METAL 5H 5 W head is a tube-driven metal monster that lets you produce high-gain madness through your favorite cab without drawing the wrath of your neighbors. It can handle tones from classic British heavy metal to modern U.S. scooped high gain, and all sonic places in between.

The Overdrive channel has independent Volume and Gain controls; and the Clean channel has independent Tone and Volume knobs.

The MTMETAL5H also features rugged construction, true tube power through one ECC83 and one 12BH7, included footswitch, stereo digital reverb, speaker emulated output with 1x12" and 4x12" voicings and an FX loop with level switch. Comments about Blackstar HT METAL 5H 5 W Tube Guitar Head with Reverb:

Let's keep it short, and METAL. This head is what I've been searching for. The on-board gain is more than enough for any metalhead looking for clear, focused and distinct tone. It's right to the point. And doesn't murder your wallet!

Footswitch allows for quick change to that other channel, I think it's called "Clean"? I don't know, never heard of it, but it sounds great for that one lame part in the song that the singer makes you write ;)
The clean channel is actually surprisingly solid for an amp made of this much metal, and the reverb makes it really pop.

The ISF is always cool with Blackstar, both American or British tones, including places in-between you've never heard before.

This amp can rock both small and medium venues with ease, and sound great when mic'd for larger events.

I couple this beast with a Maxon 808 Overdrive and the distortion is out of this world.

No more cranking other amps' gain as high as possible and HOPING it sounds good, the Blackstar HT Metal 5 does everything you need.

Comments about Blackstar HT METAL 5H 5 W Tube Guitar Head with Reverb:

Great cleans and a wide variety of metals tones with the ISF switch. Don't need a boost or overdrive to get the desired sound. Descent built in Reverb. Paired it w/ a Jet City USA 212 V30's. My new favorite amp.

Comments about Blackstar HT METAL 5H 5 W Tube Guitar Head with Reverb:

This is a great amp, but I got it for the wrong reasons: I was chasing the Mesa/Boogie sound. This amp does have a great OD channel and even though the clean is limited in EQ, I found it really glassy, especially with the reverb. However, it can't do much in-between its very nicely voiced OD and standard clean. You can't really get a true tube amp breakup or boosted creamy lead without pedals. That being said, I'm not a pedal guy. My brother is and plugged his huge board into it and said the series FX loop was really nice and not what he expected (mostly compressors and tube screamer types). If you're into pedals then I would give this amp 5 stars, but I'm not so I gave it 4 for what it can give me. Also, other reviews slam this amp for having a poor emulated output. I for one found it exceptional on both Garageband and my Tascam DP008, especially on the gain side. I found it makes for a good shredding machine and yes, can get the "djent" chug with hot pickups. Overall, beats all other heads in its category except maybe the tweaker 15. I got it with the HT Metal cab and enjoy it, even if it's not a Mesa. Will most likely keep this amp until I save up the king's ransom to pay for a Mark V someday. For what's it worth, I play through this amp with a PRS Akesson with Tremonti pups.

Comments about Blackstar HT METAL 5H 5 W Tube Guitar Head with Reverb:

Nice little head for under 500. I was looking at getting the Mini Rectifier since I'm a proud owner 7-10 years of HEAVY DUAL RECTIFIER.

Wanted to try something portable, but hated thinking I'd lose the legendary "Mesa Tone". Well, this little HTMETAL 5H is NOT going to get me my Mesa 60 pound heavy mesa boogie, feat of engineering, top notch mesa tone..... But it's DARN CLOSE! A little too close for comfort probably for MESA.

Getting back to my story, I was going to spend over 1000 for the Mini Rectifier, but I opted to try this little guy for less than half the cost AND HAS REVERB (Min don't).. Not disappointed in the least. If you are playing small/mid sized clubs bars, then with a Mic'd cab thru a PA or even not, no worries, this thing gets loud!

Leave the monster 100 watt heads home and your back or roady, my wife in my case, will thank you.

Well done Blackstar, little amp for under 500. If you want metal in a small package, then ride the technology train to this puppy. Days of 60 pound heads are numbered, unless Ozzy needs you on stage, and even then? Mic my HTMETAL!

Comments about Blackstar HT METAL 5H 5 W Tube Guitar Head with Reverb:

I was skeptical of trying this 5 watt head out, but it really does perform.

With the ISF and EQ, you can really dial in the sound you are looking for, it may take some time...but it is there.

How loud is this thing? I'm running it through my Mesa 2x12 cab and I rarely put it past halfway on the volume.

Perhaps the most shocking thing to me about this head is how well the low notes sound, especially when palm muting.

The clean channel isn't to be overlooked, it sounds amazing, and the Reverb does as well.

If you are into playing virtually any genre of Metal, I'd highly recommend this 5 watt amp. I'm actually thinking of selling my 50 watt EVH head because this thing surpassed my expectations.

Comments about Blackstar HT METAL 5H 5 W Tube Guitar Head with Reverb:

Got this with a 212 Fender Bassbreaker cab and was hugely disappointed. I wasn't expecting 6505 quality, but common! I read the reviews and heard this metal sound gives off the best chugs? All the amp does is muddy the sound so much that it sounds dark. I tried every possible EQ and dial option - no good metal sounds in there. All 5 of us agreed as we really wanted this to work out. It's not a good metal amp imo.
I was actually expecting the cleans to suck, but the cleans were the best part of the amp (Can't use at very high volumes). I've heard other Blackstar amps with much better metal sound. Maybe just get the HT?
BTW, I wondered if the Bassbreaker 212 cab was the problem so I hooked it up to my friend's low watt Orange amp (cheaper non-tube). The speakers sounded great thru the non-tube amp, but not thru the Blackstar amp. In the end, I bought a Marshall Dsl40c and switched out the Speaker for a Greenback... There is that Metal sound :)

Love this amp head. It really is fantastic. I play a lot of heavy metal and the high gain on this am is amazing. The clean channel is really nice too. On clean it is quite a full and warm sound. Couldn't ask for a better amp for practice or small gigs. You can do quite a bit of recording with it too. I have this head paired with my blackstar ht112 metal cabinet and it rocks. Overall blackstar has nailed it again!
