With 8 superb reverb effects particularly suited for live performance.

The Blackstar HT-REVERB can take you from your room to an arena via hall, plate, spring, gate, and reverse reverb effects. Each of the eight reverb effects have been designed by technical reference to emulate vintage equipment and then extensively honed 'by ear' to provide sounds that are both natural and inspirational to the player.

The features on the Blackstar HT-REVERB have been created to be particularly suited to live performance. A Short/Long feature allows the adjustment of reverb time while you are playing. The unique Dwell control is a valve gain and compression circuit which acts in the digital effects 'side chain' to impart the valve dynamics and harmonics typical of a valve driven reverb circuit. Controls include EFFECT, TIME, TONE, DWELL, LEVEL, ON/OFF switch, and a MODE SHORT/LONG switch. Includes power supply.

    • 8 reverb effects
    • Genuine valve design
    • Operates at 300V HT
    • Unique Dwell control
    • Manual and Short/Long modes
    • Stereo

Comments about Blackstar HT-Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

Before settling on the Blackstar reverb pedal, I tried a TC Electronic Hall of Fame (too artificial, and downright harsh with effects like Tile) and a Digitech Hardwire RV-7 (more natural, but my sample had several defects). To my ear the Blackstar sounds warm and organic, with Hall set on 2 or 3 being the best choice for everyday use. There is no padding for marketing purposes here: all of the reverb effects provided are potentially usable; even Reverse with the right rhythm.

Operation of the Blackstar HT-Reverb is simple, but here are a few pointers. The effect of Tone and Dwell is hard to hear if Level is set low. I turn Level all the way up, tweak them, then turn Level down to a usable point. Both the Time and Level controls can deliver extreme effects when turned up, unlike some reverb pedals. The sound is warm regardless of the Dwell setting, so long as the tube is turned on. Turning Dwell up will compress tone and boost warmth and harmonics. Blackstar claims that you can get "mild crunchy valve sound quality" by cranking Dwell all the way, but I don't hear that (I'm a fingerpicker – maybe that's why). The ON switch is just for the tube; the unit has to be unplugged to shut it down.

Downsides: the Blackstar HT-Reverb costs twice as much as the more popular pedals mentioned above, replacing the tube is tricky, and the unit is big and requires the use of the supplied 22 volt DC converter so it will not integrate easily on a crowded pedal board.

The Blackstar HT-Reverb is an expensive pedal, but you get what you pay for. It sounds great, has all the basic reverb options and is built like a tank. If you are looking for a top-quality standalone reverb pedal, your search is over.

Comments about Blackstar HT-Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is beautiful and sounds great. Blackstar continues to impress me. The verbs are all distinctly different but have a common thread of warmth and depth. The only complaint I have is that one time the pedal got stuck on one setting. I was able to fix it easily by unplugging the pedal and plugging it back in. Overall sweet pedal.
