OVERVIEW

The versatile tone of HT tube pedals in a great 1x10 combo amp.

The Blackstar HT-5 is a 1x10" combo amp ideal for studio work or practice, packing all the great tone and innovative features of the award-winning HT tube pedals into a 2-channel, footswitchable tube amp format. In making the Blackstar HT-5 guitar amplifier ideally suited to home and studio use, the aim was to develop a tube amp that sounded full and toneful even at the lowest volume level. The HT-5C power amplifier is a low-powered, push-pull design which producing the crunch and breakup characteristics of a traditional 100W output stage but at a much lower volume via its 12BH7 dual-triode in push-pull configuration producing 5 watts output, which is rich in tube harmonics and compression.

The Blackstar HT-5 guitar combo amp also has a fully specified speaker-emulated output, further enhancing its studio credentials and allowing any guitarist to get amazing tube tone straight to tape or disk, or through headphones. It also features the unique 4x12/1x12 voicing switch, allowing you to change the tonal characteristics of the emulated signal between 2 emulated cabinet types.

Add to this an effects loop with switchable level, along with 16-ohm and 8-ohm speaker outputs allowing you to run the guitar amp into an external speaker cabinet of your choice, and you have everything you need for recording or practicing right here in the Blackstar HT-5 tube amp.

For playing clear, I use my Hot Rod Deluxe. The Blackstar HT-5 is not too inspiring for clear tones, but then, that isn't what I bought it for. I wanted to hear some sweet distortion - the kind that makes you sigh when you hear it on the radio. And this amp delivers. It's loud, too, but loud and full aren't the same thing, and one little ten inch speaker is a distinct limitation. I would like it to sound a little bigger - not louder, just fuller, so to that end, I plan to add one of the Blackstar 10 inch extension cabs, and I think that will do the trick. In any case, I definitely recommend this product. For that sweet distortion that just makes your heart ache, this amp delivers and without your having to turn it up loud enough to kill cats and dogs.
This amp has most of the bells and whistles you can think of: Two channels - of course! It allows for headphones, an extended cab, includes a footswitch, a bank of equalizer controls, and the tone shaping feature is something I just don't get tired of playing with, and the sounds you can get from the distortion is just wonderful, and you don't have to blow down the neighbor's house with volume to get it!
I trust my local luthier pretty well - he does good work for me, and as a certified guitar maniac, I send him a lot of business. One day he said," ""Man"," have you heard that Blackstar HT-5? That has got to be one of the sweetest sounding amps I've ever heard!"" Well", of course, I was hooked and had to have one. After surfing ebay for used (apparently people seldom sell them once they've bought them), waiting for the universe to deliver one to my door for free (well, you never know!), and coming up zip, I broke down and ordered one from this website. I was not disappointed. I have quite a few nice guitars, but one of the sweetest sounds is from a Squier Classic Vibe 50s," and that guitar played through this amp can deliver tones that would wring tears from a stone statue! Words fail me when I play my American Deluxe Strat through this amp with the controls set for imitation of the ""British"" sound - what can I say? - my wife was impressed. As you married fellows know", impressing the wife counts for a lot, and it's never easy!
The amp seems rugged and durable, and the overall feel of it is that it is well built. On the other hand, I have only owned it a few weeks so far - but I don't foresee any problems. The sound quality pretty much classifies this amp as being in the boutique class, and as such is at the bottom range of the boutique scale. To find an amp sound to compare it to, I think you are probably going to have to spend about a thousand dollars, so this is a steal! The only complaint I would have is that the little 10 inch speaker sounds a little on the thin side - speaking purely of the fullness of the sound.

This was the first amp that I bought and I've been happy with it ever since! It has pretty good tone and, although it lacks any reverb, it has fairly good distortion. As for volume, I am in a band and it can easily keep up with drums and two other instruments. All in all, it's a very good amp for the price range.

Comments about Blackstar HT Series 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I listened to the HT-5 head through a 4x12 (hiwatt I think, cant remember), the HT-5s mini stack with the head and two 10 cabs and also with only one cab, and finally the combo, which I settled on. The combo is great - one celestion 10" in a compact design that is easy to travel with, yet all the features of the head - effects loop, mono 16, dual 16 and mono 8 Ohm outputs etc. Very convenient. The sound is fantastic. I play an Ibanez RGR321EX with EMG humbuckers. The humbuckers may be a bit heavy for this amp IMO, possibly the 10" speaker gets a bit swamped with the bass but it still sounds amazing if you roll off the guitar volume ever so slightly, although I normally leave it full on. If you have a single coil guitar you will love this amp! The overdrive channel gives you everything from blues overdrive to full on metal. It is freakin loud for 5 watts, could easily keep up with a drummer on the overdrive channel IMO. The clean channel is not so loud, but the breakup you get at high volumes is beautiful and perfect for blues or vintage rock. It is true what they say - it sounds like a 100W tube head on total meltdown. Imagine playing a tube amp on "11" at bedroom levels while still maintaining beautiful clear tones! The celestion 10" speaker is great too - it is rated at 40 watts, so it will handle absolutely everything you can throw at it! I love the vintage British sounds it produces. This amp sounds more to the British side than USA IMO, but only because of the speaker. If you use the headphone/recording out you can get any sound you want using the ISF knob. The emulated cabs on the recording out sound very similar to me. I use a decent set of Sennheiser cans. The 4x12 seems to have a bit more bass than the 1x12. On the clean channel, roll the treble up a bit and lower the bass for an amazing full rich clean sound. I love the chiming sounds it creates on the high notes. Hit the strings soft for a warm full sound, hit them hard and the chimes come out. Yeah sure it has no reverb, but at least it has an effects loop so that is a quick fix. I have never liked reverb too much anyway - my personal opinion is that it degrades tone and hides my mistakes. Dont think this amp is a toy, it is much much more.

Comments about Blackstar HT Series 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Bought this amp because I'm moving to NYC and can't justify the size or volume of my AC30 in a tiny apartment. I needed something relatively quiet without sacrificing big tube tone, and I'm really happy with the HT5 combo. To get my only (small) gripe out of the way: the clean channel is only so-so. It's definitely usable, and having switchable channels on an amp this small (and inexpensive) is certainly a welcome feature. It's not bad; it just isn't as versatile as the OD channel. Fairly generic, but again, I'm glad it's there. The build quality is SUPERB. I can?t believe they?re putting these out at thsi price. Everything is solid, compact, neat, and the amp?s overall design is great. The OD channel is obviously where this amp shines ? it goes easily from a warm, bluesy breakup to some seriously chunky gain. I don?t have much use for the uber-gain end of the HT5?s OD spectrum, but metal players won?t be disappointed. There?s a nice middle ground of really pushed tube drive that maintains killer clarity, and this is where I generally keep my settings. In any case, it?s nice to have so many tonal options available. The ISF knob does exactly what Blackstar says it will do by allowing you to dial in an American, scooped mids, Mesa-style tone on one end or a more British, Marshall-style tone with the mids emphasized on the other end. The HT5 is one of the few low-wattage tube amps that has a direct out/headphone input, which is super convenient. Don?t underestimate what 5 tube watts sounds like at full blast ? it?s definitely loud enough to irritate all but the coolest/deafest of neighbors. To that end, the 1/12 and 4/12 cab simulation w/the headphones is nice and works well when playing loud just isn?t an option. Haven?t used the direct out for recording yet, but I?ve heard good things. All in all, there?s a decent amount of competition for the HT5 (Egnater, Orange, etc.), but you simply won?t find this many features and this much tone anywhere NEAR this price elsewhere. If you need something for a small space, for practicing, or for portability without sacrificing KILLER tone, I?d definitely suggest the HT5.

Comments about Blackstar HT Series 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Just blew me away. Made well. Sounds like no other in it's size and class.Gain channel is very load for 5 watts. The clean channel sounds great but it's not as load. Add a Voodoo Sparkle Overdive to it, crank up the clean knob and bam.... it's load. Worth the money and then some.

Comments about Blackstar HT Series 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

first I must say I have both the combo and the head unit which should tell you how much I love this gem. I love the fact I can adjust my tone to suit my mood from the american to the british side of the house. I am currently in Iraq and that is why I have the combo so that way I can practice in my CHU without driving my neighbors nuts. If this amp were to ever stolen I would be getting another one!

Tone Monster!

Comments about Blackstar HT Series 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I have recently purchased the Blackstar HT5 combo, and was totally blown away! The Blackstar team have truly captured all the tone from UK to USA and everything in between. I use a Gibson Les Paul Standard and other humbucker based solidbodies. The amp's clean channel is warm with a smooth bell-like tone, up to about the half way mark with regards to level. Then the valves start to clip with a beautiful light drive. This is what the drive channel builds on. The overdrive channel starts off with some light valve drive all the way to fire-breathing, face-melting filth! This amp doesn't sound like a small, driven amp, but like a 100w stack going nuclear, but at a usable volume. The ISF feature is extremely effective in sculpting the tone anywhere between UK and USA, providing true versatility. Both channels share tone controls and the ISF feature. I built a 2 x 12 cabinet with 12" celestion super 65's, and it drives those beautifully too. This is the perfect amp for studio, practice or even gigs, as you're going to mic it up anyway. The only thing I would have added is a reverb tank. Otherwise, it truly is "The sound in your head".

TUBES!!!

Comments about Blackstar HT Series 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is going to go down in guitar history as a classic. It has a very warm, rich sound with more than enough volume for bedroom use. The tone with the ISF knob on the USA side is reminiscent of a hot rodded Marshall JMP. If you have a LP with Burstbuckers, you're golden. You get a nice, complex, woody crunch. On the British side, it's more like a Vox than Marshall, but still very ballsy and good for blues and classic rock. It even came with a footswitch. The cabinet is very solid and seems well built. And it has a Celestion! I can't find anything to complain about with this amp. I've had and sold many amps since I started playing, but this one's a keeper!

Blackstar HT-5

Comments about Blackstar HT Series 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Blown away at 5 watts. I have a small small to practice in and not much headroom for volume. This delivers great tone at lower volumes. At first I was bummed it didn't have reverb, but the tone is so rich and deep, I don't need it. This was a major upgrade from my Vox AD30. I also took a hard look at the Blues JR. The HT-5 quality construction is hand down better. Two different amps from a tone perspective, but with the ISF knob, I can get anything I want.

Comments about Blackstar HT Series 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

First, I can't believe this is only five watts, it's very loud. I haven't pushed it past the half way point yet. I love the overdrive channel, goes from blues to metal( 80's metal) very easily. The ISF knob basically changes your sound so you have several amps in one. Sounds better with EMG's than with Duncans and I've had to add a Ibanez TS7 to boost the gain for more modern gain. The clean channel sounds great, very crisp or warm depending on ISF knob. Overall great amp with fantastic tube sound.

Great little tube combo

By Blue rose SR61

Comments about Blackstar HT Series 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I got this combo a short while ago as a replacement for another practice amp that suddenly died on me. I was considering a few of the various amps out there, until I came across the Blackstar HT-5. I specifically needed something to practice with, and I realized I was limiting my choices by not looking at tube combos. I did a little research and quickly settled on the HT-5. I've got to say, I'm VERY happy with this little amp. At 5 watts, I can really crank the volume, and it sounds great at any level. The ISF feature is gold, as it truly gives me a ton of tonal options. The effect loop is very handy to have. The crunch channel is terrific, I can get anything from slight breakup, to a nice classic rock sound, to exquisitely brutal distortion.(The guitar I'm using with this amp is an ESP LTD EC401). My only small gripe is that the clean channel is slightly one-dimensional, but that is easily remedied with a reverb pedal. The build quality is excellent and seems very durable. In short, this little amp is everything I was looking for in a practice and (future) recording amp.

Comments about Blackstar HT Series 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

If you only want a fender, marshall, or vox tone then go with one of those. If you want something with versatility and all of the options including effects loop, headphones, and speaker outputs, then this is an excellent amp. The ISF feature is just ok, but overall this amp has the potential for great tone.

Good but not Great

Comments about Blackstar HT Series 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Overall I liked the amp but found it tough to find a great sound somewhere between clean and fully overdriven... the clean channel didn't respond well with my previous OD pedal. Most reviews on this amp are filled with everything thats great about it, I'll fill you in on what I didn't like about it. My key complaint was a slight, temporary jump in volume when changing channels. It wasn't noticable unless the delay pedal was engaged at which point it was all I noticed... and noticed, and noticed, and noticed. I contacted Blackstar via email regarding this issue. I received an immediate response stating that my question would be passed on to an engineer. That was approximately 4 months ago. Also, the 10" speaker is alittle boxy at high volumes which wasn't present when pushing an external cabinet. Finally, the foot switch is hard wired to the pedal which isn't compatible with my pedalsnake... I tried a standard fender footswitch but it didn't work 100% with this amp.In the end, one of the better options for a market begging for a fully loaded, low-watt amp.

HT5 combo

Comments about Blackstar HT Series 5W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This was my first amp. I have been very happy with it. Takes a little while to warm up. Sounds really nice with my Hagstrom LP knock off. With a reverb and eq on the fx loop you can do a lot. I'm usually happy that its there when I get home from a long day and its still before 10. My room is roughly 10 x 15, and its more that enough sound power for the space. I like that they are forcing people to get a separate reverb unit, but provide as easy way to hook it all up. It shows a level of thoughfulness that is nice when plunking down some bucks.
