I've had this pedal for a few weeks at this point. It's really been amazing how much it has improved the overall sound of my rig. I'm not a whiz when it comes to equipment sometimes, but I know enough to say that this pedal has done wonders for me. The multitude of knobs on the HT-DISTX will really help you fine tune your sound. I've always thought that a MID or SHAPE knob really helps when it comes to distortion, and this one basically has both. I use a Fernandes Native with P-90 pickups into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (with the BOSS reverb pedal). I usually play folk/jazz style guitar on my own recordings, but recently I felt like I needed to expand a bit and possibly play some heavier or more full-sounding guitar songs. I figured that the lack of "oomph" to my rig was due to everything collectively. I thought that the guitar, the amp, and the pedals were lacking. After buying this pedal, I realized how much of a difference a high-quality distortion pedal can make. This thing is very clear and defined, and has the rich bass tones that most other pedals can't touch. The mid & "infinite shape" knobs can do wonders. From British Crunch to a heavy scoop-style distortion, this pedal can do it. The only thing it doesn't really cover, in my opinion, would be the extremely subtle distortion, or severely heavy distortion. That said, if either of those are what you're looking for, there are pedals made specifically for those uses. The HT-DIST covers A LOT of ground, and does it very well. If you're a somewhat versatile guitarist who isn't really one to stick to one style, this is the pedal for you. If you like to have a more refined sound, this is also for you. Highly recommended!

If you want a distortion pedal that truly represents your guitars sound with good tonal options get this. I own it. I play a prs custom 24 through a 5150 on the clean channel and this pedal almost gives me the sound I want. great for the price but if you want something that REALLY represents your guitars tone and your playin style then spring for a Hughes and Kettner pedal. I own those and they are the best sounding distortions I have ever heard. Crisp but warm, well defined, with great response to pick attack. All 3 of these pedals work great for anything from classic rock to blues to jazz to metal. The Blackstar has enough gain for anything. The 3 band eq should be on every pedal and the ISF knob lets you talyor you sound to what you hear in your head. If you only have enough cash to get this pedal DO IT! you wont get anything better at this price, in my opinion. I have tried many pedals. tube screamers, over drives, metal zone, tube man, and for the price this one rules. If you want a more true sound then you'll have to spring big bucks for a hughes and kettner distortion.

This does not work well as a booster (TS-9 stye) It adds some fizz to an already distorted tube amp but a TS-9 is way better for this purpose. It is good for direct recording but not outstanding. It is best as a substitute for the distortion channel on a solid state amp. That is to say using this as the primary preamp. The gain on this model is too low for most leads but makes a great crunch rhythm. I sent mine back and ordered the dual channel model. Also it has some tube aspects to it, but it is more like the marshall valvestate with a higher voltage at the tube. There is an LED behind the tube that glows and the tube did not heat up after 30 minutes of playing, so I don't know how much is tube and how much is solid state, but it sounds pretty good.
