This thing sounds good on so many different settings, mostly for low, heart-piercing rhythmic tones. I had always wondered how to sound like Nile, and this will give you a similar tone at the right settings. The deep gain sounds so natural.

On top of all of that it has so many great combinations of settings, if you were thinking about this pedal vs the drive, that one only has 3 knobs and you wouldn't be able to get the crazy amount of different sounds out of it.

One downside is that the pedal needs to go into the beginning of your signal path and the emulated output doesnt do the gain stage justice. But since this pedal is really all you need, it wont be a problem. This thing has no middle ground either, its always full-on deep gain (as it should be).

If you want to find that deep sound used by At the Gates, Sleep, or Belphegor, I would highly recommend this.

Its funny that everyone I know who praises this pedal has a really nice amp. I think most of the people that think this pedal is great are getting most of their distortion from their amp and using the pedal more as an eq. The distortion does not add distortion after three o'clock it stays the same in terms of gain and just adds more compression, not cool. The ISF isn't really infinite either, the american and british settings do sound different but anything in between is really not noticeable. I recorded 8 different clips changing only the ISF knob and no one who listened to them could tell teh difference. You knows its big when you get it, but after having it it becomes kind of annoying how big and heavy it is and that it uses a 16v adapter so if you are running a pedalboard of 9v pedals you are going to have to truck around a second adapter. Things I did like were the emulated speaker out, that sounded pretty good for direct recording. Other than that I see it only as tube preamp for solid state amps. It is not a good high gain distortion, it doesn't live up to its name of "pure valve filth". Unless you already have a good high gain tube head look elsewhere, even an EHX Metal Muff sounds better than this.

Comments about Blackstar HT Series HT-DISTX Tube High Gain Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

A sales person at M F convinced me this was the best distortion pedal for the money. After reading and thinking and reading some more I decided to purchase knowing if I was not happy M F would help me.
Wow what a great pedal. It has so much more tone and range than anything else I have. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a full sounding effect. None of that thin lead sounds we all get used to.

Ok Soi got this thing about a week ago and dropped it on my foot taking it out of the box needless to say it holds up better than my foot. its built like a Tank. The Sounds coming out of this thin g are amazing its very versatile. The one problem i had and im glad i looked at youtube videos is that if your running it through a SS Amp you will need an EQ Pedal to tame the High end fuzz. I recomend the MXR 10 Band EQ or the KFK 10 band if you want a splitter

Play through Egnater Renegade 212, wanted more gain, bought this pedal and never looked back. I use it on my clean and it sounds great. Once I dialed in the clean I was looking for then tweeked the pedal I found a great tone. Now I use the Egnater dirt for overdriven and slight gain and the Distx for melting faces.

Comments about Blackstar HT Series HT-DISTX Tube High Gain Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have been trying to find a good tube screamer for use with my Fender Twin Reverb. This unit is top choice if you want a good sound range with adjustments. Comes with it's own DC power supply so no annoying ground hummmm. I have to say for the price, this one is well worth it. Somewhat large and heavy for a pedal, however the internals surely make the difference and this one surely delivers plenty of punch.

Comments about Blackstar HT Series HT-DISTX Tube High Gain Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is simply the best sounding high gain distortion pedal I have ever used. Unbelievably organic and full. The pedal seems to be well made, and switch is completely noiseless.

There a couple of things that make this pedal a pain to operate: It's very large and tall. So, it presents a bit of a problem for pedal boards - it towers over other pedals, so if you place it in the first row, stepping on second row peals is tricky. Also, the bigger issue for me is that it requires a proprietary 22v power supply. I have not been able to find any pedal board PS which can provide 22v's. As a result, if you're using this on a board, it must be plugged into its own outlet. Other than those two things, absolutely amazing pedal.

Comments about Blackstar HT Series HT-DISTX Tube High Gain Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I play mostly Blues, Blues/Rock. Bought my first guitar in 1969. I play a strat with AlNiCo 2's through a Bugera 50 watt head w/2xEL34 tubes. I always play this through the clean channel. The pedal is heavy. I'm not sure why it's so heavy. It's a tube and circuit board and what? Lead plates? Anyway, it won't slide around on me, that's for sure. Note: this gain control on this pedal starts out at very high gain, which is intentional.
The controls are very useful. I set everything below noon. This is a great tube saturation pre-amp drive. I don't get crunchy grit from this. It's a very pick-sensitive sustain machine. But it's also very responsive. Great pedal.

Sounds better than I was expecting. Quite a full sounding tone compared to my other distortion pedal which is a metal zone. I can get good crunch out of this pedal and it sounds really deep. It does seem to have quite a bit of background noise which I havent quite figured out yet. Overall I am happy with the purchase.

Its true what it says about feeling like a tube amp. Im running it through a mesa 2:90 into a old hughes and kettner 2x12 and its is soooooo thick and responsive. My only complaint is thete needs to be more range in the distortion knob. When you get to about the 10 o'clock position its like most pedals gain knobs all the way up. Im gonna see what lower gain tubes sound like

It sounds nothing like the video. But I does sound awesome. The ISF is more like a parametric eq. It's not as crunchy as in the video. I played through a les Paul with a Duncan JB through my fender tube amp and a pa. I'd describe it as a tube screamer with more options to fine tune it.

                          Well worth the money!

I bought this filth machine because I saw some videos on YouTube. I figured that I would be disappointed once I received it and plugged it in. I was not disappointed.

Not only is this pedal build like a tank, it produces more distortion than most amps. It is so versatile you can sound like anyone from AC/DC to Slipknot.

I purchased this pedal and used it as a preamp in front of an ART SLA1 power amp and a Randall 2x12 and it sounded better than my Marshall. I recommend this pedal for anyone who wants that tube warmth and high gain. Of course, I can't forget about the price. You can't get this sound from anyone else for this price. I'm guessing their prices are lower than others because they are a fairly new company and price could change once they have established a good name for themselves. Buy it and you will not be sorry!

Does Two things extremely well. Adds gain (my amp does not have a gain feature)before the signal goes into the amp. Adds distortion without going to high volume. Tone can be shaped by the ISF feature. Pedal is build like a tank. I don't usually like effects but I love what this pedal adds.

a little pricey but its well worth the price

                              Wont leave home without it.
I have a 1977 Marshall JCM 800 2203. This amp is so loud that I run all my gear threw the low power input. The Blackstar is all Im using for High gain sounds so the amp is set at a lower clean volumn. The pedal has so many options with the tone that I can get a great sound with my tube amp and solid state amp (also ran clean). Backup solid state amp is a Marshall MG100HDFX. The Blackstar has so much gain on tap and yet I can back the volumn down on my guitar and it cleans up beautifuly. Very touch sensitive. Also run a MXR Microamp at the end of my signal chain as a lead boost turning a one channel amp into a three channel, clean, dirty, and the lead boost channel. Other guitarest in the band uses a Carvin V3 GREAT amp but with the Blackstar I can get just as heavy and liquid singing leads. Also used is a Palmer DI. Speakers for all setups Celestion Vintage 30's.
Built like a tank no problems after 5 gigs and consent use at home recording and practicing.
I want to get a backup. And the money is well worth it.

To start off, I am a bassist and I bought this for my bass guitar. One weekend I went a little crazy with buying various distortion/fuzz pedals from Guitar Center. I would buy one and take it home, mess around with it for the day. I would try each in a band situation to hear it in the mix and really get a good idea of it. I ended up going through two pedals in the weekend before stopping at this one. This is a very versatile pedal on bass. When i first bought it, I was aiming for a very fuzzy, very heavy distortion. It does that sound very well, it can get big muff like sounds, just like Troy Sanders from Mastodon. When you have the gain cranked that high you do lose some low end. You can fix that by running it through a blend pedal. I did that for a while when i was playing music where i wanted to use this pedal in a fuzz application. Now adays my taste for distortion has changed. I like to keep the gain cranked down to as low as 8 o'clock. At this gain setting the low end is preserved very well, and you can have a very nice thick present distortion sound, that would fit in many types of music. Over all this is a great pedal, my only recommendation is that it had a blend knob in it so you would not have to get a separate pedal to help preserve the low end. Maybe one day Blackstar could add that in :)

Ok I bought this thing to get a "metal" sound of my fender pro junior...dont laugh...The Pro Junior is a awesome practice/ blues/ classic rock(when "dimed") but I had the itch to play metal again and this pedal is awesome and does all that. When I use this pedal I have my Pro Junior with volume below 4 which is before it breaks up...I have not tried this pedal on a SS amp but with a clean sounding Tube amp it is awesome even at low volume
