ID: Series Amps
Blackstar's ID: Series represents a truly groundbreaking achievement, combining unique innovations, an intuitive, traditional control set and the versatility of programmability. In the five years since its launch, Blackstar has been helping lead the way in the innovation of guitar amplification. The ID: Series represents the culmination of more than seven years technical research and development. The unique controls allow you to custom design your own sound, store it and then have the confidence that the amp will perform in a live environment.
Blackstar's True Valve Power offers six distinctly different power valve responses - EL84, 6V6, EL34, KT66, 6L6, KT88. When engaged, it delivers the response, dynamics, sag and break-up characteristics of a valve amp and uniquely delivers the same acoustic power output as an equivalent valve power amp. This means that for the first time ever, in an affordable series of amplifiers, these products deliver live without compromise - True Valve Power means loud as valve.
The Voice control has six different channels - Clean Warm, Clean Bright, Crunch, Super Crunch, OD 1, OD 2. When used together with Blackstar's patented ISF control you can get the exact tone you're thinking of. The effects section delivers studio quality modulation, delay and reverb effects simultaneously that you can store with your sound. Deep editing and storing of patches is simple using the supplied Blackstar GUI software. Patches can be shared, uploaded and downloaded via our online community. The USB connector also allows you to record your amp directly to your computer. An emulated output, MP3/line input and midi footswitching functionality complete the package.
By using the unique Voice control, patented ISF and patent-applied-for True Valve Power, these amplifiers allow unparalleled flexibility and ease of use, enabling you to in effect, design the sound in your head and deliver it live as loud as valve. Individuality is power.

Comments about Blackstar ID:15 1x10 15W Programmable Guitar Combo Amp with Effects:
The only reason this gets 4 stars is because I could not figure out how to record it via usb. I've searched online and downloaded the Blackstar Insider program, but I couldn't get it to record on my computer. I got this so that I could occasionally record, but it seems like I still have some things to figure out.
Now onto the actual review parts.
There is a built in noise gate for OD1 and OD2. It sometimes cuts my long notes, but you could disengage the noise gate through the Insider software. However, the noise gate will still be there if you turn the amp off and back on.
No real need for a mid knob. If you really want to, get the 60. It has 12'' and a mid control. You could control mids with the ISF and get the actual mid control with the Insider software.
I haven't figured out how to actually save my own presets yet on the amp. I've mostly been using the manual mode, so it's okay for now.
The tube emulations(TVP) make the sound dramatically better and louder. I'm using it in my apartment and it can go from a whisper to shaking walls. The only complaint I have with TVP is the different output volume. It makes sense that the volume should be different when the output tubes are smaller or bigger, but I'm getting annoyed with controlling the master volume every time I want to go from el34 to 6L6 or even to KT88.
The effects aren't bad or great. They get the job done for some delay and reverb and a few modulations things. I feel like the effects tend to get out of hand if you have them over a quarter of the way up on the level knob, so watch out for that.
mp3 input works only when something is plugged into the input. I don't understand why, but that's how it is. Doesn't really matter for me because it's mostly just playing along to backing tracks, but I thought maybe someone would like to know.
The headphone out is emulated(I believe). It sounds amazing and sometimes I think it sounds better than the speakers. The only down side is that you can't control the volume with your master volume. If you turn the master volume up while using headphones, the speaker from the amp will also be on. The only way you could control the volume is by adjusting the preamp gain and volume. I happen to have a pair of mediocre earphones with a volume control in between and that seems to work fine. It sounds pretty good even with just earphones. I have Sony MDR-V6 that I use exclusively for the amp and it sounds pretty good.
The amp seems to react well to change in voltage/volume pot of the guitar. it cleans up rather well even in OD1. Not as clean in OD2, but still cleans up well enough.
My favorites channels are
Clean warm with 6L6 or EL34
Super Crunch with 6L6 or KT88
OD2 with 6L6 or KT88
One more annoying thing is that when you turn the amp on, it starts off in manual without the TVP being turned on. I have to press the TVP button every time I turn it on.
Thanks for reading this review and hope it helped!
