Comments about Blackstar Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

Bought this pedal months ago. I use it with quite a few set ups. Pushed through a fly rig 5 into a tech 21 power engine it sounds great. I have pedals from tech21,which are great, fulltone, ibanez and more. Most recently began using pedal into marshall DSL 40. The first channel on the marshall is great, the second channel sounds good when gain is turned down. The blackstar into channel one is giving me a monster tone. Blended with a ocd pedal for more rounded leads and I couldn't be more happy. This pedal is so inexpensive every one should have one!

Comments about Blackstar Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have bought a few overdrive/distortion pedals before and was never a big fan of any them. This was the first one that I really dug. It sounds good and the notes really come through on any guitar that I've tried with this pedal. (Ibanez, Epiphone, Dillion, Hagstrom) they all sounded great to an extent. Frankly if you have a good tube amp with a good overdrive you are better off with that of course but this pedal does supply you some good overdrive if you're playing solidstate. My only gripes with it are the lack of low end. It sounds heavy but the low really kind of disappears which for me was a deal breaker. And this pedal happens to be very noisy. I tried 3 different noise gates (Boss Ns-2, Pigtronix gatekeeper, and the EH Silencer and none of them seemed to able to hate the noise properly. That problem went away when I plugged in the emg's but was still a pain up to that point. Overall for what I paid for through SDOTD was worth it even if I only use to jam some thrashy stuff.

Comments about Blackstar Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

If you like Blackstar's Dirt tone, you will likely like the pedal. Has a definite Marshallesque tonal quality. Reminds me a bit of my Wampler Plexi-Drive, with a little less bottom end and even a little more Mid Focus. It actually is a little bit like mixing an OCD and a Tube Screamer. I.E. OD like a Marshall flavored OCD, but with a TS's Frequency alterations.

It is more compressed than I usually like in an OD. Except at the lowest crunch settings, dynamics are squashed a bit. Distortion still sounds a little aggressive, but your pick attack isn't going to make as much difference compared to my PLexi Drive, Sweet Honey, Euphoria, SloStortion, even my EHX TS clone EAst River. But of you like that compressed driven tone, then here ya go.

    Controls

Good sweep on the Gain. It does cover from light crunch to good classic rock heavy crunch. Level is not much DB range though. All the way down is different than full, but there is a lot less range than a lot of OD pedals. Tone is a lot like their amps ISF. It can fine touch tone. It can muddy up well full counter clockwise, but from 10 o'clock on, to full clockwise, there isn't as much difference as a lot of pedals. Basically, it seems to exist o adjust the pedal to your particular amp. Your going o get the pedals tone, period.

    What it does well

Very impressed with it's string separation/definition. You can really hear each string. Hit a chord, move from a major to a 7th, or pull a finger on a power chord, and you hear it clear as a bell, no matter where the gain is. Also works well on a clean amp.

    What it does so-so

Running it into a slightly driven amp is not it's forte. It cuts bass, and boosts mids a bit like a TS, but, compared to the Amps own driven tone, or even the LT Drive on the CLEAn channel, it gets alittle to thin sounding to my likes. AS mentioned above, a bit limited on level changes and tone adjustment

    What is not as great.

Bit noisy. Hiss starts at noon on level, and gets loud by full. It

Comments about Blackstar Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

It's well made, solid construction. I'm using a blackstar amp H1-M1 seems to have the exact effects when I turn off effects on my amp. So I have not gained anything but I am keeping this should I plug into a different amp. The battery seems to last overnight without it being drained. The sound is very clear.
I was hoping that this pedal being Overdrive would be more aggresive than Distortion. I will have to look for something else.

Comments about Blackstar Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have lots of overdrive pedals. I don't think you can have enough of them. The most used OD pedals I have are Xotic SL Drive, EP Booster, BB Preamp, Simble OD, Marvel Drive. I liked this pedall within a few minutes of using it. It cleans up very nicely with the guitar's volume control. It also serves well as a functional boost. I am not going to get into crazy details.....your ears are different than mine. I play blues rock and southern rock and new country. I don't venture into the distortion or high gain territory. If I have to grab a single pedal to run to a gig without my pedal board, it is usually the BB preamp or SL Drive. Now I will use this. Purchased it on SDOTD. I should have purchased a few to give as gifts. I really like it. I use Strats and P90 guitars......... been playing for close to 50 years or more. It deserves 5 stars but I am sure I could fault it somewhere because nothing is perfect. Built solid. I hope it lasts....I have had issues before with the HT DUAL.
